Note
He uses occasional descriptive vocab to make the writing entertaining, but he maintains an overall intellectual tone.
jacq

Note
The Hitler example is not strong evidence: everyone uses it and the reasons behind Nazi Germany are complex, so the evidence is not clear. The Macbeth example is good: it's from literature so gets extra points for being cross-discipline, and it's simple.
jacq
Note
This is a good shot at the hidden morality behind anti-drug campaigns that are made by adults for teens.
jacq
Note
This is a very good personal example. It explains the moral problem, explains how he personally felt, and reflects on his thoughts & actions using the moral framework of the essay.
jacq
Note
Great vocab.
jacq
Note
Great writing! Uses Religion as an introduction to Reason. Extra points for drawing in another discipline (religion) and also makes the writing varied & interesting.
jacq
Note
Paragraph 7 Now he starts the section on Reason and Morality.
jacq
Note
Paragraph 8 Lists 3 different systems of Ethics, showing he is very well researched.

May 082. Are reason and emotion equally necessary in justifying moral decisions?

Colin Kinniburgh, United Nations International School

jacq
Note
This is a good section that describes the different conclusions of these 3 systems of Ethics. But is is poorly written and I had to read it twice to understand. For example, the explanation of the first 2 systems are cramped into one sentence. Maybe he was running out of words?
jacq
Note
Great finishing sentences; ends by asking a question of the reader.
jacq
Note
Now he attempts to offer some answers and further explains his personal approach.
jacq
Note
Here he draws in a current news report that he heard. Extra points for including yet another discipline and increasing the personal aspect. He then uses this news report to explain his own stance, which is to use Reason & Emotion in moral decisions.
