1. MARRIAGE ASSISTANCE SCHEMES

In most communities, it is a customary cultural requirement for a girl to wear

‘Thirumangalyam’ made of gold during marriage and the parents celebrate the

marriage function according to their customs and cultural backgrounds. However,

parents from economically weaker sections are not able to cope with the burden of

epenses towards the marriage of their daughters. In order to help such parents and

to encourage them to educate their daughters till the right age, !arriage "ssistance

#chemes were introduced by the $overnment. %ive !arriage "ssistance #chemes

are implemented to help the daughters of poor parents, orphan girls, widows who re&

marry, widows daughter’s marriage and inter&caste married couples.

The percentage of graduate beneficiaries has increased from '() in '*++&+'

to that of -) in '*+&+.

626444 beneficiaries have availed grams of '' /t. $old /oin along with the

cash assistance of 0s. '((-1( lakhs benefitted under the five !arriage "ssistance

8pening up of new avenues of employment in urban areas has motivated

many young women to take up employment away from their homes to cities. 9ue to

the rise in prices and high rentals, the cost of living has gone up. $irls from poor and

middle class families find it difficult to manage financially in their new places of

employment with the meagre income they get. In order to help such working women,

the $overnment runs '( :orking :omen Hostels.

"dministrative approval has been given to start + more new working womenhostels during the year '*+&+. :omen who earn upto 6',*** per month at

/hennai and 6+,*** per month in other places are eligible to get admission in these

working women hostels. They have to pay a monthly rent of 61** in /hennai and

6'** in other places. #haring system is followed for food epenses, electricity and

other charges. The staff salary is paid by the $overnment.

Integrated /omple of #pecial Homes would be set up in each block of the #tate for

the #enior /itiCens and 9estitute /hildren where they can share love and affection

with each other, involving reputed 4on&$overnmental 8rganiCations and /orporate

Houses as part of their corporate social responsibilities.

2 Integrated /omplees of #pecial Homes in all 1' 9istricts 3' homes per

9istrict5 in the #tate was inaugurated by the Honourable /hief !inister through

In each Integrated /omple, ' children and ' senior citiCens are
