Positive Behaviour for Learning Spotlight FOUR WINDS Last Friday our whole school made the journey out to the Sound Shell at Four Winds to take part in the Splendid Schools Day. Our students were able to apply the singing and body percussion they have been learning in classes this semester in what amounted to being an incredible collaborative musical experience. Fellow students from neighbouring schools have been learning the same musical content and under the guidance of Four Winds expert musicians, students all performed at the one time creating a spectacular musical performance for those who attended. Many of our students can also raise their heads high for their participation in other parts of the program, including the Welcome to Country, the Gadhu dancers and our Koori girls who sang ‘My Home’, a song written by Uncle Gordon Campbell. All our students participated extremely well as part of the show and as audience members. They were greatly entertained by children’s performer Joel Salom and his juggling expertise. The school would like to thank the committee and volunteers at Four Winds as well as the Artist-in-Schools music teachers and all the visiting performers on the day for organising such a great event. We look forward to 2020! Our singing and body percussion lessons will continue for the remainder of the year. Our K-2 students were also lucky enough to attend the Mulga Bill’s Bicycle musical performance presented by Four Winds, which took place in our hall last Thursday. The kids found it highly engaging! What a great treat! BALINDJANG EXCURSION TO UMBARRA CULTURAL CENTRE Last Wednesday, our Year 3/4 Balindjang class went out to Umbarra Cultural Centre for a day excursion. The students were immersed in language and culture, including painting, weaving, dancing, playing indigenous games and enjoying a yummy feast. The class were filmed singing in Dhurga, one of the languages of the Yuin Nation. A massive thank you and congratulations to everyone who assisted in making this such a worthwhile event, in particular our community members who hosted and engaged the students in cultural activities. The Australian Red Cross, ABC, Bega Valley Shire Council and Narooma High School were all key supporters in the day. We, as a school, are very proud to have Uncle Gordon passionately leading language opportunities with students, whilst this great learning journey of our students writing in language, publishing a book and engaging with the community would not of happened without Mrs Loughran and Mrs Kirk’s vision, passion and dedication as educators. SOUTH COAST CRICKET Congratulations to Natalia who represented the South Coast in Cricket last week at the State Titles in Sydney. Natalia enjoyed the week, contributing runs and bowling through a number of games. Bermagui PS is very proud of Natalia’s achievement.
