YEAR OF PRAYER FOR PRIESTS: The Pope has dedicated
2009-2010 as a special year of “Prayer for Priests”. During this
year, the 5.30pm Mass each Thursday will be offered for the
sanctity of priests and priestly vocations. There is a leaflet on
Indulgences to take home. The following prayer has been issued
by the Congregation for Clergy. “Dear Lord, we pray that the
Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and
through her intercession, strengthen them for their
ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to
follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn
2:5). May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s
most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced
heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of
the cross. May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of
your love, seeking nothing but your greater glory and the
salvation of souls. Amen. St John Vianney, pray for us.” During this year, the 5.30pm Mass each Thursday will be offered
for the sanctity of priests and priestly vocations.
HOLY COMMUNION In order to assist in the orderly procession of communicants, please allow those in the transepts (the side-facing benches) to go before those in the nave. This is especially important at busy Masses

in small groups or to staff the base at Holy Trinity Church. If you can help, contact Rev Dr Adrian
Burdon on 0113 2752793, or e-mail: [email protected]. Some members of
our congregation have already signed up to this initiative.

THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS has published guidelines governing the prosecution of cases of assisting suicide. It is very important that Catholics should know what these guidelines say and make their views known to the DPP. A short briefing note, “Having your say on assisting suicide” can be found at the back of the Cathedral explaining what this is all about and what you can do about it. There are also details online at www.catholicchurch.org.uk
