17 th April 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians, 4D3N Adventure Langkawi, West Malaysia. Wednesday, 17 th June to Saturday, 20 th June 2015 I am delighted to inform you that the end of term trip in Trinity term will be a 4D3N Adventure/Educational Trip to Langkawi Island in West Malaysia. The trip will take place from Wednesday, 17 th June 2015 to Saturday, 20th June 2015. This period is a nice break after the IGCSE exams. This final term’s residential trip is viewed as part of the school curriculum and all students are expected to attend. The classes involved are Y7/39, Y8/27, Y9/56, Y10 /34, Y11/33, ESL/23, SG/25, SG/52, SG/29, SG10/31B, SG11/33A and IN/6A. RATIONALE The trip ‘Adventure Langkawi ‘ will serve both as a reward after this year’s academic toils and also as a fitting, closing chapter to the graduating seniors’ educational journey in Dover Court. Although physically less taxing than some of the previous trips organised, this trip is still designed to develop skills introduced during the Orientation Camp. The activities planned will also provide students with an opportunity to recap and revisit the skills and knowledge learnt from some of the different curriculum areas such as Geography, Science and Physical Education. The trip will also provide an excellent setting for students from Mainstream, ESL, Small Group and IN classes to integrate for many activities in a residential situation. Such relationship building will be greatly beneficial to enriching their developmental process in school. During the excursion, students will be accompanied by professional guides exploring the famous UNESCO-endorsed Geopark in Southeast Asia. The Langkawi’s Geopark is noteworthy for its array of impressive rock formations surrounded by ancient jungle, vast caves with stalactites and stalagmites, winding mangrove reveries, sea caves and tunnels, wildlife and waterfalls. Over 90 geo-sites have been found in the region but there are three distinct areas that form the Langkawi Geopark, each with its own unique geological significance.

17th April 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians,

4D3N Adventure Langkawi, West Malaysia.

Wednesday, 17th June to Saturday, 20th June 2015

I am delighted to inform you that the end of term trip in Trinity term will be a 4D3N Adventure/Educational Trip to Langkawi Island in West Malaysia. The trip will take place from Wednesday, 17th June 2015 to Saturday, 20th June 2015.

Students will also get to participate in fun and exciting activities like trekking in the Geopark, cruise along River Kilim to watch eagles feeding, visit a floating fish farm, explore a bats’ cave, mangrove kayaking and snorkeling in Pulau Payar Marine Park. The other highlight of the trip is a 20 minutes cable car ride. At 709 metres above sea level, the 2.2km cable car ride up to Langkawi's second highest peak will be a special experience for the students, as they pass over jungle waterfalls and virgin rainforests. In the evenings, students will visit Eagle Square, visit a traditional night market in the district of Kuan and enjoy a disco night. COST The cost for the trip is $750. The cost is inclusive of airfare, air taxes, all land and sea transport, food and lodging, all activities, hiring of qualified trainers, hiring a local DJ, use of function room, tipping for local guides and drivers and insurance coverage. We will be traveling with Air Asia, leaving Changi Airport on 17th June at 10:55am and arriving back in Singapore Changi Airport on Saturday, 20th June at 10.20am. As I am required to make a reservation for air tickets, local transport, accommodation and activities, the number of students going on the trip must be confirmed and payment has to be made well in advance. I therefore require the full payment of $750 to be paid by Friday, 24th April 2015. Please note that the fee paid is non-refundable once the booking is made. The payment can be either in cash or a personal cheque made payable to Lim Seng Heng. Please place your money or cheque in an envelope and hand it to me in class IN/6A. As June is a peak period for school holidays and Langkawi is a popular tourist destination, It is necessary for me to receive a quick reply to this letter as the booking of air tickets, hotel accommodation and travel insurance need to be arranged immediately. Should your son/daughter is unable to attend the trip, you need to let me know in writing with a valid reason/s. Please fill up the attached Student Particular/Medical form, Indemnity form, reply slip and return them to Mr Lim by Friday, 24th April 2015, together with the payment. SAFETY Trainers/instructors are experienced and fully trained with all safety equipment and procedures. All students will be covered by Travel Insurance for the duration of the trip.
