Term 1 – Issue 4 – 20 March 2019

Dear Parents, Staff & Students,

National Day of Action against Bullying and Harassment

Our school is proud to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’

On Friday 15th March we collaborated with schools across Australia for the 2019

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

Taking a stand together delivers a powerful message that bullying and violence is never

okay. We strongly encourage parents and carers to have open and honest

conversations with their children about bullying in all forms. To get the discussion

started with helpful information and tips, visit the Bullying No Way website:

http://www.bullyingnoway.gov.au

The definition of bullying directly from the Bullying No Way website:

“Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal,

physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It can

involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bullying

can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert).”

Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved,

including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in

person or online, are not defined as bullying.

Behaviours that do not constitute bullying include:

• mutual arguments and disagreements (where there is no power imbalance)

• not liking someone or a single act of social rejection

• one-off acts of meanness or spite

• isolated incidents of aggression, intimidation or violence,

However, these conflicts still need to be addressed and resolved

School Playgrounds

and after school to all students and young children. Playing on these playgrounds are

dangerous for young children who aren’t being properly supervised, and is also

distracting for teachers and students who may be working in classrooms. Thank you in

Congratulations to our weekly winners of the Ice Block draw from the last fortnight:

Week 6: Marik S, Diezel K, Shyla Van H, Kahdeesjah D, Evan B, Brooklyn M, Leeka A, Alan M, Jaylee K and Oliver G

Week 7: Deegan H, Dylan K, Logan S, Xander C, Tatiana G, Bronk S, Indy-Rose S, Jasmyn M, Elliot B and Teretia T

This week’s behaviour focus has been about, “Playing fairly – asking others to join in, taking turns and following rules”

which sits within our Be Respectful behaviour expectations. This focus is a very important one for students to develop

as it helps them:

• Develop their social skills when interacting with others

• Develop good sportsmanship skills

• Enjoy playing and interacting with others in a healthy way

• Enhancing the development of productive relationships with others

By meeting this expectation and enjoying their break times by playing positively with others, helps students also then

re-enter the classroom in a positive mindset, assisting them in making the most of the upcoming classroom lesson.

As part of our school becoming esmart, we are teaching lessons about how students can use the internet safely.

Students are learning a variety of topics such as Personal Information, Cyberbullying, Balancing Your Time Online and

talking safety online.

Our whole school behaviour focus for next week is about, “Walking bikes and scooters through the school”. This

expectation is a really important one for keeping everyone safe when travelling through our school and will be one

that staff will maintain vigilance with monitoring for the remainder of the year.

We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate these expectations over the next fortnight, as they embrace our

school values of being safe, respectful and responsible learners.

Beaconsfield State School Date: 20/3/19 Phone: 0423 793 665 We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land the Yuibera people, Elders past and present and the wide range of diversity throughout this service. Hi Parents/Guardians,

My name is Natasha and I am the Coordinator at Beaconsfield Camp Australia Service. I have Leonie Martin who

assists me mornings and afternoons.

Camp Australia is your after school service. We are located on the school site in H Block which is between the

LOTE room and the Year 4/5 classrooms.

We open at 6:30am for school care, providing nutritional breakfast, quality care, supervision and fun activities.

Prep children are walked to their classrooms and supported to complete their morning tasks.

After school care is available until 6:00pm. Prep children are picked up from their classrooms and walked to the

service. We provide a healthy afternoon tea snack and an exciting activities program based on the children's

interest.

What have we been up to:

At After School Care our numbers have picked up rapidly with mornings and afternoons being booked out. We

welcome all the new children that started in this fortnight. We have had lots of different activities set up in our

service. Charcoal drawing, playdough, chalk drawing, making our Harmony Hands, St Patricks rainbows, writing

down ways to conserve energy, playing some outside games of soccer, football and handball and many more. In

the kitchen Miss Leonie has been making some delicious afternoon tea recipes. Next week we start our Easter

Activities.

OUR ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY UPDATE:

At the service we have our four recycle bins and we are planning to use them. Our food tins in our service have

been recycled and we have been using them to paint them and plan to hang them outside of the service to make

our own pot plants.

CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY UPDATE:

At our service we have been learning the Indigenous culture. We have been learn the Yuwibera language, a

different word every week. We plan to make our own symbolic stones which we will have on display at the

service. Our service is a Peanut Free Zone, we encourage children not to bring in any food items which contain

nuts in it as we provide food at the service.

On the next page is our upcoming Holiday Club with the Theme “Jungle Jam”. Holiday Club is held at Northview

State School. Parent input is most welcome.

If you have any queries please don't hesitate to come up and ask. I am happy to answer any questions.

Have a great week. :)
