PIE, PIE, & MORE PIES!!!
Our 4-H Food Stand is our primary fundraiser each year and is long known for its offering
of homemade pies! Last year 29% of total food stand profits were from your donated
pies and we ran out of pies quite early, so we feel that we need to get an early start on
reminding all families of the pie schedule!! However we know that schedules are busy so
the following pie makers are willing to assist 4-H families.
Please contact them as early as possible and directly for pricing information.
Jaime Oswald 402-604-0015 [email protected]
Andrea Winfield 402-929-0530
Denise Bone 402-326-2092
In regards to frozen mass manufactured pies found in the grocery store such as Mrs.
Smith’s pies, the 4-H Food Stand would appreciate NOT using these. However, the Vil-
lage Maker pies are acceptable. They are made in Nebraska. Please make sure they
are baked before bringing them to the Food Stand as we don’t have ovens. We request 1
“homemade” pie per 4-Her and families with 2 or more 4-Hers are asked to donate 2
“homemade” pies. If you are able to provide more pies, that is most appreciated! Also
if you have a friend or relative that enjoys baking and would consider donating pies to
our efforts please encourage them to do so.
Please bring your pies to the 4-H Food Stand
and make sure your donation is recorded on the sign-in sheet.
Please deliver pies on the requested date by the starting letter of your last name:
M thru Z– Deliver on Thursday, July 27th
G thru L – Deliver on Friday, July 28th
A thru F - Deliver on Saturday, July 29th
Please keep a watch on the weekly S’more for signing up your club on a food stand shift
and please encourage all members to make homemade pies! As our largest fundraiser
this event helps keep 4-H membership free in Hamilton County, allows you to request
manuals at no cost, and pays for youth contests and state fair entry fees. It takes each of
us as volunteers to keep our program strong.

How to select a 4-H project?
Go to http://4h.unl.edu and type in “Pick You Project” in the search bar (top right corner).
Choose from over 150 different projects!
Select the ones you’re interested in.
If it’s a new project area, start with the first level, some areas have multiple levels.
What are project camps for?
They’re offered to supplement project learning.
Remember to enroll in the corresponding project.
Project vs. Entry! Difference between project and county fair entry.
Projects are curriculum (project manual). ALL PROJECTS HAVE TO BE ENTERED ON 4honline.com BY JUNE 15!
Projects help youth gain knowledge and skill .
A product of learning is a county fair entry.
Ask: “What projects interest my child that they could learn from?
The county fair entry should be a result of learning.
Quality Assurance is for all youth ages 8-18, who are showing livestock – Beef, Dairy, Swine, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits and Poultry MUST pass QA (either face to face or online) every year un-less they have tested out in our office. The last face to face Quality Assurance class will be held on June 7th at 6:30 pm at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds 4-H Building. Please call the office to sign up.
Hillary is willing to schedule a QA class with clubs or independents of 5 or more. Call the office or email [email protected] to set something up!

Post Fair Clean Up
What is FCS DAY? It’s a half day filled with competitions, which are geared toward the knowledge in the Family and Consumer
Science Field. You can choose to participate in any or all of the following competitions;
Favorite Foods Contest:
Presentations:
County Life Challenge:
FCS Quiz:
*The Morning starts at 9 am with the youth that want to compete in the favorite foods revue. This is a competitions where par-
ticipants plan a menu suitable for an indoor or outdoor meal. They prepare one food from the menu and bring it along with se-
lected table service, display cards, and own card table. Recipe prepared may or may not be from a 4-H project manual. The food
may be an individual or family-size serving. Recipes may be from any part of the menu. The table service will include: dishes,
flatware and table linens for one or two place settings. Paper plates, etc. are acceptable. Print the occasion (example: lunch for
bike hike) and complete menu on one card and the recipe prepared on another. Fresh flower centerpieces may be used if the
flowers have been arranged by 4-H member. Silk or other centerpieces may be used. Displays will be set up by the 4-H'er at the
4-H Building the day of the contest. Members will be interview judged and will be asked questions concerning the preparation,
the menu, nutrition and/ or their choice of table service. Informational handout is available at the Extension office.
The schedule then moves on to the County Life Challenge Contest, where the participants will answer questions representing
information found in Citizenship, Human Development, Clothing and Textiles, Consumer Management, Home Environment, and
Food and Nutrition. In addition, they will have a ranking question(s) and present their solution to the judge through oral reasons.
There will be a break and starting at 1PM there will be the presentations contest. A 4-H Presentation, given by one (1) individual or a team of two (2) individuals, is a live presentation with a formal talk where youth will use visual aids (such as props, posters, computer-based visuals, handouts, video, etc.) to show and tell others how to do something. Presentations are given on a stage. Judge views the entire presentation and engages in a question and answer session following presentation. Educational resources for youth participating in the 4-H Presentations Contest can be found in the 2017 4-H Project Resource Central found at http://4h.unl.edu/4hcurriculum/communication. *there will be awards in between each section.
*there will be the FCS Quiz offered in the down time throughout the morning. They can be graded and checked that very day.
