ENROLLMENT INFORMATION

Adult Volunteer Background Checks

4-H Leaders enrolled in 4-H Online may be due for a background check. These are

conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Extension every four years for youth

protection purposes. Volunteers may be asked to enter an e-mail address on the

Volunteer Screening section of the re-enrollment process. This e-mail address

should be unique to you (i.e. not an account you share with a spouse/family

member). If you are asked to provide this e-mail address, please watch your e-mail

for a message from GIS asking you to complete a background check form. The

process is fully online, but technical assistance or paper options are available at the

UW-Extension office if you need them (the process does require a valid Social

Security Number). Please contact Portage County UW-Extension with any questions.

Important: New Trip Guidelines for 2019! Please Read Below!

You must apply at 4-H Online for each of the State 4-H educational trips. (Acceptance is based on a first come first serve basis. Apply early to secure your spot!)

The Portage County 4-H Leaders Association has a limited number of scholarships available to help pay the cost of the travel. Download an application from https://portage.uwex.edu/ to apply for a scholarship.

If you are not chosen for a scholarship and have been approved for a trip, you can still attend but you must pay the full cost.

All payments are due to the UW-Extension Office by June 1, 2019.

The scholarship for each member is limited to a maximum of 1 small Travel Experience (WI 4H & Youth Conf.) and 1 large Travel Experience (Space Camp, CWF, Nat’l 4H Conf., Nat’l 4H Congress or LWF). If you are selected to attend more than one trip, you must designate what trip you want the 4H Leaders Scholarship to support.

In order to accommodate the 4-H State’s new Trip Policy and ever changing enrollment deadlines we have set our trip scholarship interviews two months early – November 28th instead of in January.

Note Leadership Washington Focus trip has not been finalized. Watch for further information on 4-H online or in our newsletter.

Check out a listing of these exciting State 4-H educational trips on the next two pages!

The 4H teen leaders are still looking for new members! If you are in-

terested in having the Teen Leaders attend your club meeting to talk to

your members, please let Candice Wolosek know at (715-451-1707).

CASIMER BOOSTERS 4-H CLUB, AUGUST 6, 2018 - CLUB REPORT

We started the meeting with roll-call, secretary’s report, and treasurer’s report. We first talked about the old business which was June dairy days, the Amherst fair, summer camps, and that the Rosholt fair entries were due on August 1st. Our club won the poultry barn award at the Amherst Fair! Everyone did very well at the Amherst fair this year. We then switched to new business which was the Rosholt Fair, and perhaps a small club trip. We considered biking at Bukolt, swimming at Rivers Edge, or going on the Rib Mountain ski lift in fall. We then adjourned the meeting.

OFFICER REPORT: Treasurer's Report: Checking: $7408.28 Savings: $ 148.58 Bills for trips and camp bus were paid. Secretary’s Report: Thank you notes from Cody Kaminski in appreciation for attending Space Camp and Suzanna Viau and Breeley Warzynski for being recipients of the Pinkerton-Burns-Noble Portage County 4-H Leaders scholarships. OLD BUSINESS: Scholarships – Portage County 4-H Scholarship checks were presented to Bailey Adams (Fox Valley Technical College), Breeley Warzynski (UW Oshkosh) and Suzanna Viau (University of Minnesota). Plant Sale Update - $4229.22 profit after two customers received refunds for their calibrachia plants that died. Summer Camps - Record turnout for camps especially the number of young men in attendance. There was a need for more male counselors. Intermediate camp went well. Camper numbers expected to increase next year due to the addition of Wood County. Ideas for how to deal with increased numbers included having 4th graders attend intermediate camp. An additional day has been added to Cloverbud camp. Wednesday camp will be at Iverson Park. Cost will be $4.00. Friday, July 27th, a swimming and pizza party will be held at the YMCA. Cost will be $4.00. If youth do both, cost is $7.00. There is a need for teen chaperones to help from 10 am until 12:30 pm. Connie reported that only a few youth have signed up so far. 22 youth attended last year. Suggestion made to hand out reminder post cards when Cloverbuds bring their projects to the fair. Teen Trip to Mount Olympus: Went well Cake Decorating Workshop – There were 17 youth and 3 teens who attended the workshop. Nancy Lemke was the cake decorating instructor this year. She moved around the room and helped each youth individually. Copps donated the frosting. Kathy reviewed the cake decorating rules from the fairbook and talked about the cake auction. Amherst Fair Food Stand – No teens attended the planning meeting. Candace and Connie met and discussed plans for this year. Saturday and Sunday night, teens need to help close the food stand. There is need for incentive to get teens to help more with food stand. Ideas are welcome.
