Title: Development of COAP based app (application) for smartphone-sensor interactions. Aim: This work aims to develop a COAP (COnstrained Application Protocol) based application for android phones that can be used to interact with remote sensors. Pre-requisites: Networks. Programming skills in C and Java. Brief Summary: Constrained Application Protocol is an application protocol intended to be used in very simple electronic devices that allows them to communicate interactively over the Internet. It is particularly targeted for small low power sensors, switches that need to be controlled or supervised remotely, through standard Internet networks. We aim to develop an application that is used to access data from sensors. There would be two modules: 1. Smart App Module 2. Sensor Module. Through a smart phone application we would access data from sensors. Various implementation of the protocol are readily available in languages like Java, Python, C etc for both android and sensor devices on different platforms. Milestones: Literature review of COAP, Contiki, and some related works, Design of smart phone application, porting of COAP based application to programmable device and establishing communication between devices. Note: The required devices for working on the project would be provided. This project is designed to continue for 1.5 years and future directions would be accoordingly communicated. Interested students can email or contact me for further details.
