I am pleased to report that all classes have settled immediately into productive learning routines. This term we welcome 4 new students to our school; Billy in 3/4H, Leah in 5/6S, Zara and Sheldon in 1L and at the end of last term, Zachary in 2/3H. I know that you will join me in welcoming the children and their families to this fabulous community. You will have noticed a lot of notes coming home this week. Please take the time to read them all carefully, and place somewhere safe for reference. Miss Kidman has also sent the notes out via a Skoolbag App. I have noticed that, while many families have downloaded the app, many more haven’t. Instructions for download can be found in this newsletter. This is our prime source of reminders for upcoming events. Newsletters and notes will also be put on the app, as well as the website. The Department of Education is updating all school websites at the moment. Our school is due for transition this term, and until then, there will be no changes made to the website. We will still utilise the school’s Facebook page to celebrate achievements. If you have a Twitter account, our handle is @orchardhillsps. It is early days yet for our Twitter account, but we are hoping it can be another source of information for our school, once we attract more followers. If your child received a Principal’s Award during the first half of this year, they will be celebrating with me over an afternoon tea next Wednesday. Invitations went out yesterday. Congratulations to these safe, respectful, learners in our community. Week 3 is Education Week in NSW Public Schools, with the theme ‘Today’s schools creating tomorrow’s world.’ We will be celebrating with a few events throughout the week. Tuesday is Open Day, Book Character Parade, Sausage Sizzle, Book Fair and SRC cake sale. Wednesday we all attend Warragamba Oval for our Athletics Carnival and Gala Day with the small schools. On Thursday, the P & C are organising a fun day with a Pyjama Mufti Day for a gold coin donation. This is always a wonderful week at our school and we hope that you can join us for the celebrations. Did you know that the pavers that have been laid near our admin building were purchased by community members and families back in 2010 to celebrate the School’s centenary. Thank you to Mr Lucey for re-laying them during the holidays. During the last week of term 2 a very valued and long standing member of our community and P & C, Jim Mason OAM, was awarded the Executive Director’s Recognition Award for significant contributions to our school that are reflective of the NSW Department of Education’s core values. I was proud to nominate Jim and attend the awards ceremony with him. It is people like Jim who make our community the ‘best’ around. Congratulations Jim. Church Car Park - Reminder Please remember the following when picking up or dropping off your child to school. Students should not walk through the car park unsupervised. Please park your car and walk into the school or wait on the grassed area outside the hall. Reverse park to curb only Drive slowly Do not park on the grassed area outside the hall. This creates visibility issues. As a courtesy, cars exiting the car park should allow for cars entering the carpark by waiting at the top of the driveway. This limits a traffic build up to Kingswood Rd. No student should be picked up from the staff car park gate. Pick up and drop off is from the Church Car Park only. I am also concerned that a number of children are playing in the car park after school, while mum’s are ‘catching up.’ This creates obvious safety issues with our car park being so busy of an afternoon. Children should remain with their parents at all times and refrain from playing in the car park. Thank you to everyone who adheres to these requests in the interests of student safety. Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival (PVPAF) 2018 We are very excited about the upcoming performance in the PVPAF on Tuesday 31st July. A reminder that the students involved need to be at The Joan on Tuesday 31st July between 8:15am and 8:30am. They then need to be picked up between 2pm and 2:30pm. Students need to be back at The Joan for their performance at 6pm. The performance will conclude at approximately 8:30pm. If you have any questions, please see Mrs Lockley, Mrs Hawes or Mrs Namdar. Fruit and Veg Month Don’t forget to start working on your creations for the Fruit and Veg Month Art Competition! What: Create a drawing, painting, collage, song, poster or short film. When: Create it at home and hand it to Mrs Lockley by Friday 31st August Theme: Happy Fruit and Veg-Tember!

P & C News The P&C have put out a Krispy Kreme order form. This is a great way of raising funds for classroom resources and the students love taking home the do-nuts on delivery day, Thursday 6 September. Don’t miss out!!

We are also running a cold coin Mufti Pyjama Day on Thursday 9 August with OHPS lip balms only $3 each Our next P&C meeting is Tuesday 3 July at 7.30pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend, have a coffee and share ideas.

The school canteen is open on Tuesdays and Thurs-days, thank you to all the parents, grandparents, car-ers and helpers who volunteer their time on those mornings.

Student Banking is Tuesday. If a student banks ANY amount EVERY week for 10 weeks the bank gives the school $5.00 per student. So even if it is 20 cents, bank every week!

Thank you for your continued support and time.
