Awarding our 2020 Scholarship to Francisco Aguilar! On Thursday, May 14 th , Sally Reed, Lee Wheeler, Iris Cekovich, Liz Miceli, Sue Dutton, Donna Sheppard, Cindy Schmidt, Cathy Serwalt with her grandson Noah, and Rita Poore held a properly social distanced car parade as Lynda Gannon presented Fran his check, balloons, and a few extras. WRDE was on hand. We made the 11pm news! Lynda was a little sneaky, she didn’t tell Fran he’d won the scholarship, so he was very surprised and happy. Go to the website to see more about Fran and his plans for the future. Special Thanks to John Schmidt for photographing the event. We received this lovely note from Fran. Dear MAG, Thank you so much for all the preparation and work you guys put into this. Random splashes of acrylic color become a striking painting when you train your brain to see

negative shapes, and learn to paint to reveal an image. Your class starts with covering the watercolor paper with random brushstrokes of multiple colors of acrylic paint. Then sketch a simple shape (a vase of flowers or a bird) and paint around the object, and fill to reveal your creation. Get surprising results with this method. Kathy Fessenbecker guides you through the

process.

Tuesday, June 17th from 10:00am to 12:00 Noon $10.00 Registration Fee

You will need several 5”x7” or 8”x10” pieces of watercolor paper, covered with gesso, 4 or 5 colors of acrylic paint including white and black, several medium size brushes, white

chalk, water container, paper towels, and a mat corresponding to the paper size you are using.

These will be ZOOM Classes. Go to www.MiltonArtsGuild.org for registration and payment. When you are registered you will get a code for the zoom class.

Please download the zoom.com program on your computer, tablet, or phone prior to the class so you are ready to go!

You've maybe heard of Zentangle or Zendoodle, but now we have Zoomdoodle!

Zoomdoodle is instruction done online using Zoom. (Don't worry, it's easy to get online. we will

help you)

Doodling is a way to relax while doing something creative. Warning: It's very addictive! You’ll learn three (3) "doodles" during each session. Later, put

your doodles together to create something like what you see below. It all starts with a single line.

All you need is a fine line marker (micron markers and fine sharpies work fine) and some paper, also have something to make circles - canned food, jar

tops, glasses, etc. work just fine. Cost: $10 for all sessions in May. Take

one or take all, your choice, the fee is the same….Just $10 for the

entire month of sessions. Such A Deal! 2 Sessions Weekly –

Tuesdays & Thursdays 1:00 – 2:00pm or 7:00pm – 8:00pm Both sessions cover the same material.

June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 Once you are registered, you will receive

an email invite with the link to sign in. Go to www.miltonartsguild.org

to register.

Social Distancing = Zoom Artful Happy Hours

Why Not Add Art to your Happiness?

Milton Arts Guild now offers Artful Happy Hours On Line using Zoom for Parties up to 10 people. All for only $40.

These online parties feature “ZoomDoodling”

Email us at [email protected]

to reserve a happy hour. We will contact you to arrange time & day.

Heard of Zentangle or Zendoodle? ZoomDoodle combines the relaxing but creative aspects of both

Zentangle and Zendoodle.

Now enjoy learning with up to 9 of your friends via the Internet. For Beginners & Beyond. These Art Parties we can do together while

we safely stay apart! Your computer, phone, or tablet makes it easy to get your friends together, share a libation or two,

and experience something new. It all starts with a single line. And it doesn’t have to be straight!

Warning: ZenDoodling can be very addictive.

You’ll need fine line markers (micron markers, fine sharpies, but a good pen will work) a soft lead pencil (#2) and paper.

Cardstock works best (even the non-shiny surface of old cards). Heavier paper gives the best results.

Any kind of tool to make straight lines, circles, and curves can also be beneficial.

CONGRATS TO BARBARA!

Winter Visitor by Barbara Coffin Sue Dutton, Barbara Coffin, Linda King, Carol Anne Stone

“Winter Visitor” Barbara Coffin’s miniature oil painting will grace the cover of this year’s Milton Holiday House Tour guide and all publicity for the tour. Each year, one painting is chosen from our Holly Days Show

for this honor. This year’s tour will be on Saturday, December 12, as will our Holly Days Exhibition and Reception.

Looking Forward …. Our plan right now is opening during Governor’s Phase 2. When we reopen, our first show will be a Celebration! Been creative during this time of staying home? Great…Frame it! If not, try creating a piece that speaks to your feelings, happy or sad, during this pandemic. It will be great to share again!

Hanging fee will only be $10.

“Shadow Play” show will now be a Judged Show – Not Juried. That means all entries will be accepted, if framed and presented properly (check that prospectus). Prize ribbons and money will be

presented. Dates are still TBA.

As we “open up” during this pandemic….Please support the small businesses that are carefully welcoming folks “back in”. Buy from farmers markets, mom and pop shops, restaurants, etc. In our area, every little bit

will help get people back on their feet.

We salute, admire, and recognize the great debt we owe to the Health Care professionals and workers, teachers, at-home substitute teachers, cooks,

delivery folks, truck drivers, cleaners, grocery & drug store workers, garbage collectors, all those we sometimes just take for granted. These

people are bravely working tirelessly during this crisis to keep us safe, fed, supplied, and saving lives. Also to those who have tried to bring bright spots

to these dark days, keep it going, you are inspiring us all.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

What have you been doing during this time? Last month, we asked what have you been doing while on lock down? We heard from

a one person. Here’s what she had to say.

From Karen Zemko: We've had a church ministry that has not met in weeks (obviously). So we are making thank you cards at home that are going to Beebe hospital staff. I have been designing, cutting all the paper and distributing packets for assembly. So far we have sent over 75 cards and have another 80 almost ready for delivery. It's not the painting I'd like to be doing, but it's an outreach I feel very good about. I don't get to do much painting on a regular basis, as I have an 86 year-old lady with dementia living with me that takes up a lot of my time. When she couldn't afford her home any more (or assisted living) I took her in and her daughter pays me to take care of her. So my life is not my own for the most part. But we make it work.

We’d like to hear from you! Please drop me an email ([email protected]) with just a little blurb on how you’ve been coping and creating during this crisis. In an effort to help keep us all connected, share your thoughts, hopes, worries, surprises, and of course, funny stories.

MAG Go Fund Me We heard from the Go Fund Me folks, guess what?!?!! We qualified for Matching Funds!

Now we’re waiting to see how that works. Again thanks to all who donated! We also have a donate button on our webpage. This is going to be a challenging year with the closure due to

CoronaVirus. So if you can help, we appreciate any donation.
