Functional Overview
The CimCore 3000 series portable articulating arm
coordinate measurement system is a powerful tool for 3-dimensional digitizing, inspection, and reverse engineering.
Its lightweight design and portability allow for easyinspection at multiple work sites, as well as quick mountingin any orientation for easy measurement in tight or
confined spaces. The CimCore 3000 series offers reliable,
high accuracy data for use with a wide variety of software
packages, and exporting to most popular computer assisteddrafting (CAD) programs.
The CimCore 3000 system consists of the CimCore Arm, a
computer, and power supply. The entire system can be set
up in minutes and requires only a single operator. All
software functions can be performed by a remote-controlmouse, located on the wrist of the measuring arm, while
audio feedback helps to guide the operator throughinspection routines.
Technical Overview
The CimCore 3000 series portable articulating armcoordinate measurement Arm is constructed from high-
grade carbon fiber, which is inherently temperature stable.
The construction duplicates and enhances the movement
and reach of the human arm (shoulder, elbow, and wrist), plus infinite rotation of principal axes. Each element offers
two degrees of freedom. The Arm is available in a variety
of lengths and there are extended measurement optionsavailable to permit accurate inspection of parts and
assemblies larger than the Arm’s measuring envelope. Data
collection is obtained through various contact, non-contact,laser, and speciality probes.
The CimCore 3000 series system works in tandem with a
variety of software packages that are accessed via the
proprietary WINRDS software drivers provided with the
system.

Replacing the Recording Buttons__
The buttons should be replaced solely by a qualified andtrained technician. Replacing the buttons without approval
can cause significant damage to your instrument.
Determining If a Power Conditioneris Required
This is a brief explanation of when a power conditioner
should be used with the CimCore 3000 series systems.
When a Power Conditioner is AlwaysRequired
A power conditioner is always required when the CimCore3000 system is used on a power circuit shared with heavy
equipment, such as brakes, mills, large air conditioners, and
especially arc welders. These machines generate excessiveamounts of conducted noise that may interfere with system
operations.
When a Power Conditioner May beRequired
A power conditioner may be required when there is heavy
machinery connected to a circuit that runs near the circuitthat the CimCore 3000 system is using. Noisy circuits can
generate radiated noise of a “clean” circuit nearby. Thissituation is hard to predict without knowing how the
facility is wired.
When a Power Conditioner May Not beRequired
A power conditioner may not be required (but is still
recommended) if the power circuit is known to be separate
from any heavy machinery, large air conditioners, etc.

12. Rotate the arm by moving all the axes. As each axis is
reset, the bars will turn blue. The H axis is used with aLinear Rail System and will remain clear during the
reset process until you slide the arm on the rail past the
reset location. The typical reset location is the left end
of the rail as the operator looks at the rail.
13. Once all the bars have turned blue (indicating that the
reset is now complete) the operator will have mouse
control while holding the CimCore 1000/3000. The arm
now acts as a 3-dimensional mouse for screenselections while in WINRDS. The movement of the
wrist and finger (E and F axes) allows for fluid mousecontrol. The Arm’s middle button acts as the left mouse button.
NOTE: All of the software functions on the screen can
be accessed using the mouse functions of the CimCore
1000/3000 Arm. Moving the wrist to the left moves the pointer to the left. Moving the wrist to the right moves
the pointer to the right. Moving the wrist up or down
causes similar movement of the pointer on the screen. The Arm’s middle button acts the same as the left
button of a PC mouse.
13 Verify the WINRDS 2.3 ArmSpecs conversion by
placing the probe in a hole that cups the 15mm ball probe while moving the elbow axis and watching the
movement of the z value on the screen. There should be
very little variation in the z value if the data wascorrectly translated.

button.
NOTE: ArmSpecs data is located in a folder called
ARMDATA under \PROGRAMS\CimCore\WINRDS2.3 in either the C or D drive. The specific drive is
determined on the basis of whether or not you have a
dual boot computer system.
