    Stretch Task:

General revelation is when people come to know God through ordinary everyday experiences. It can be when people observe the natural world

around them, when they use their conscience or when they read scripture.

These experiences are available to everyone and everyone will interpret them differently. This means not everyone will see them as evidence God

exists – some will just see them as natural. STUDY GUIDE P.147/148

    Stretch Task:

How might God be revealed in nature? What qualities of God are revealed? Refer to Christian beliefs.

Explain the Christian beliefs about how God is revealed in nature. Refer to the qualities of God that are revealed and include references to scripture

You each have a picture which is meant to demonstrate the natural world. I would like you to annotate around it in line with one of the success

criteria below. You will also have a small pack of resources to

inform your annotations. Please challenge yourself as much as possible!

Stretch: 1. How does this link to the design argument. 2. How and why an atheist might perceive it differently STUDY GUIDE P.147/148

  • God can reveal Himself through the natural world. The fact that nature is so beautiful shows that God must be the creator and

what is important to God can be seen in the world. Just as artists are reflected in their paintings, so God is shown in His creation.

Qualities such as harmony and beauty must come from God and be found in God.

Similarly, the laws of science that describe the way in which the world works so

perfectly, show that God must have designed the world.

God teaches people through His word. God cares about people (design of the world). God communicates with people as individuals. God knows and understands what it is like to

    be human.

Christians believe that God is revealed as a present and immanent being in nature. It

gives you an insight into God that you may not get through anything else. Some have likened

it to understanding an artist from art.

‘The skies proclaim the work of his hand’

    Psalm 19:1

  • For Christians it is pretty similar as they believe the bible does reveal what God is like and how he acted within the world throughout time.

However, Christians have a slightly different view on what scripture can reveal depending on whether they believe it is the actual word of God or

    not. .

    Stretch Task:

‘Revelations cannot teach people anything about God’ [12 marks] Evaluate this statement. In your answer you should:

    • Give reasoned arguments in support of this statement • Give reasoned arguments to support a different point of view • Should refer to religious arguments • May refer to non-religious arguments • Should reach a justified conclusion

Plan an answer using the usual sheet. You should bullet point what would go into every paragraph and you can work with your table group to do this. You will then answer the question in full for your home learning.
