2017-2018 Residential Recycling and Garbage Collection Calendar
DOs Use plastic garbage bags or metal or plastic cans (minimum 30 L, maximum 125 L).
Maximum weight for bags or cans is 20 kg.
Large items such as furniture, mattresses, sofa beds (remove mattress and tie springs down), and carpet (cut into 1 m lengths & bundle) can be placed at the curb. Separate tank from two piece toilets and empty water.
Maximum 2 cubic metres per collection.
Put your garbage at the curb by 7 a.m., but no earlier than 6 p.m., the night before.
Dog feces and cat litter must be double-bagged, free of liquids, and placed inside a larger bag.
Extra garbage: Tag it for curbside collection ($1.50/container) or bring it to an EnviroDepot for disposal (1.50/bag). See page 2.
DON’TsDon’t place small grocery or kitchen bags at the curb. To be collected they must be placed in garbage cans or bags.
These materials will not be collected:• loose garbage• electronics (TVs, computers, etc.)• appliances (oven, fridge, etc.)• scrap metal (bikes, metal furniture, etc.)• tires • fluorescent light bulbs & tubes• construction & renovation material (drywall, loose wood, etc.)
Don’t place garbage at the curb outside the specified hours.
Don’t put broken glass and sharp metal objects in regular garbage. Place in a sealed and clearly labeled cardboard box for garbage collectors. This will contain the glass if it breaks at collection.
Don’t place needles in the garbage. Place in a hard plastic container and contact your local pharmacy or visit healthunit.com/sharps-disposal or healthsteward.ca for safe disposal information.

Use separate Blue Boxes to keep Paper and Containers separated. There is no Blue Box limit.

Cardboard boxes Break down, flatten and tie in bundles up to 75cm x 75cm x 20cm.
Drop off large and oversized quantities to an EnviroDepot.

Recycling DON’Ts – What does not go in your Blue Box? Paper:
unbagged shredded paper, waxed or foiled paper & boxes, construction paper, gift wrap, & photos
Glass:
broken glass, dishes, ceramics, glasses, light bulbs, mirrors, & window panes
Plastic:
hangers, plastic bags & wraps, foam packaging, toys, & coffee pods

• Use 2 or more Blue Boxes
• Maximum weight for Blue Boxes is 18 kg
• Maximum size for Blue Boxes is 95 L
• Use Blue Boxes not oversized cans, cardboard boxes, plastic crates, or laundry baskets

Maximum 3 Containers per collection. 1 Container = 1 bag or can.
Extra garbage:
• Accepted at the EnviroDepots for a fee (fees apply)
• Tag garbage ($1.50/tag) for curbside collection. Tags can be purchased at the EnviroDepots. For additional details and purchase locations visit london.ca/garbage
• There are four 3 Container Exemption collection days per year when the limit is not enforced: following Thanksgiving & Christmas, in late April/early May, and at the beginning of September.

No grass clippings.
• Place yard waste out for collection by 7:00 a.m. on Monday of your scheduled week(s).
A crew will collect from each street once during the designated week.
• Brush must be less than 10 cm in diameter and cut into 1 m lengths. Tie in bundles with twine.
• Maximum weight per container or bundle is 20kg. Container size - 30L minimum and 125L maximum.

Christmas Tree Collection Service Place Christmas trees at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday January 8 for collection during the week. Please remove all decorations including tinsel, garland, lights, and nails. Trees in plastic bags will not be collected. In the case of snow delay, leave your tree at the curb for collection the following week. See london.ca/reduceyourwaste
NEW
Household Special Waste (HSW) HSW is any waste from your home that might
be flammable, corrosive, toxic, or explosive. These materials don’t belong in regular household garbage. See london.ca/hsw for safe disposal information and locations.
Outdoor Water Restrictions are in effect: June, July, August
Even numbered addresses may water lawns/gardens/wash cars on even numbered days. Odd numbered addresses on odd numbered days.
