Location Based Services • Control Plane
– Provides position to a network application (e.g. 9-1-1).
• User Plane – Uses IP to provide location to the mobile
device (or network application). – Allows flexible services to be created (e.g.
mapping)

Short Message Service (SMS)
• SMS includes text messages and various non-real-time, low bandwidth data services (such as LBS session initiation and M2M).
• Three solutions: – Traditional circuit-switched SMS (ANSI-41/SS7) using C.S0015
message format. – Transport level mapping using IMS and C.S0015 message
format. – Application level mapping using an instant messaging client.
• All solutions inter-operate
