My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Our Lenten journey has come to an end and we are in the Easter joy. The Lord is risen as he has said and today we begin another chapter in our liturgical life, the season of Easter. Yesterday Jesus lay entombed in death – but now no more. He is risen! Alleluia! It is an incredible experience of God’s love; God reaching out to us in Jesus Christ. Easter invites us to commit ourselves to Jesus and to find ways and means to bring the new life that Easter brings in to our world. The precious gift the risen Lord brings to the world is the gift of lasting peace. The undeniable truth is that if the world lacks anything today it is nothing but true peace. Turn to any communication media and we hear only about shooting, bombing, mass murder and other forms of terrorist activities. People are generally in grave fear and worry. They find it difficult to enjoy true peace and it is all the more true about our brothers and sisters in the Middle East who endure the scourges of war and terrorism and the scarcity of food and water. The peace that the risen Lord offers is still a far distant dream for them, and they crave for it. We must be immensely grateful to the Lord for the peace and happiness we enjoy and experience today and it is our responsibility to share it with others. We know that we are not alone because the risen Lord walks with us. When we are able to see Christ in the poor and the vulnerable and say, “Be not afraid, I am with you to help you and I will walk with you” as Jesus tells us, then Easter joy becomes a reality for them as it is for us. May this Easter help us to make our life a moving story of his love and grace! Have a Blessed Easter!

SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF BISHOP MICHAEL

PUTNEY - A special Mass will be celebrated on Monday 28th March at 12:15pm at

the Sacred Heart Cathedral to mark the second anniversary of the death of Bishop Michael Putney. All are invited to attend.

YEAR OF MERCY: ILLUMINATING LIFE GATHERING 2016 - Townsville

Catholic Education is hosting the gathering which will be held at the Townsville Entertainment Centre on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th April, 2016. This includes a “Pilgrimage of Mercy” on the 7th of April starting at 3:30pm from the Entertainment Centre to the Sacred Heart Cathedral. All are invited to take part in this pilgrimage as an occasion to experience the mercy of God. For details please go to the website given in the flyer on the Parish Notice Board.
