    Current Priority InitiativeIncreasing trade, tourism and investments in Mindanao and Palawan

    DAVAO/GENSAN-BITUNG SEA LINKAGE

    • The Davao/General Santos   – Bitung route has been

    selected as one of the three (3) pilot areas for RoRo

    operation under    JICA’s Feasibility Study on the

    Establishment of the ASEAN RORO Network.

    • Private sector players in Davao, General Santos, Sulawesi

    provinces have taken the lead in pursuing this initiative and

    have shown great interest to jump-start this initiative.

    • In July 3, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade officially released

    its updated regulations allowing the entry of 3 out of the 6

    goods: Food and Beverages; Electronics; and Garments. It

    identifies Bitung Port as one of the International Gateway

    Ports of Indonesia.

    Current Priority InitiativeIncreasing trade, tourism and investments in Mindanao and Palawan

    BROOKE’S POINT-KUDAT / KOTA KINABALUSEA LINKAGE

    • Construction of the RORO ramp in Kudat port is expected to

    commence in Nov 2015 and completed in Sept 2016.

    • MV Princess Beatriz has started to operate in April 2015 from

    Brooke’s Point to Kudat,. A trade mission from Philippines to

    Kota Kinabalu was held last 14 September 2015.

    • On May 2016, the Provincial Government of Palawan, in

    partnership with the Business Council of Sabah will be

    conducting a Friendly Tour cum Tourism Exposition to promote

    the route. A fastcraft from Palawan will be bringing cultural

    presentors, local bikers and local products for display to Kudat.

    The same craft will also bring bikers from Malaysia to

    participate in a Motorcycle Race on its return trip.

    HYBRID RICE PRODUCTION

    • For the Philippine side: accomplished 88% (57,012 ha.) of the

    targeted expansion area with established 30 demo sites

    equivalent to 143% of the target;

    • Trained 4,500 farmers equivalent to 90% of the target for 2015

    • For 2016, target expansion for the Philippines is at 100,000 ha.

    HYBRID RICE PRODUCTIONIncreasing trade, tourism and investments in Mindanao and Palawan

    • Hybrid rice production can increase the income of farmers by at least 15% and farm yield by at least 40%.

    • The project is projected to contribute an additional 36,356 tons of rice production in 2014 (based on 25, 000 h

    hybrid production)

    exhibitions, trade fairs, culinary demonstrations, etc. To be hosted by PhilipIt is a rotational festival occurring every two years. (Host country should be

    least a year before the festival).
