In the second reading for Mass this weekend, from the letter of Paul to the Thessalonians he tells them that he gives thanks to God because of them. Paul recalls their “work of faith, labor of love and endurance in hope!” He tells them that they are loved by God and were chosen! This reading is meant for us, for you and me! We were chosen by God who loves us. Together we have performed works of faith – we form the youth in their faith, we help the needy, we feed the hungry, we visit the sick; we perform these services as a labor of love. And we accept whatever hardships may come our way enduring in hope. In the Gospel we heard that the Pharisees went off to plot how they might entrap Jesus. We need to be aware that there may be people who want to entrap us. Trick us into saying some- thing or doing something against our faith, or against God. Be vigilant; but don’t worry. Faith Formation 2017-2018: For Love of Our Common Home AM sessions for grades Prek to 7 are on Sunday, from 9:45 to 10:55, with Mass at 11AM. PM sessions for grades 6 to 10+ are on Sunday, following the 11am Mass, from 12:15 to 1:15pm. Cold Hands Hurrt!! Collection for Joseph’s House & Coffee Hour On October 22, we will be celebrating World Youth Day in our parish. Our Faith Formation children will participate in the min-istries at the 11am Mass, sing a special song and Mrs. Pontari’s grade 3-4 will host a coffee hour in the back of the church. The items they have been collecting for Joseph’s house will be blessed at Mass and delivered on the following day.

The Crayon Initiative What do you do with all those broken, worn out crayons in your house? Throw them in the garbage? Not the best idea…a better idea is to recycle them. How? Since 2015, The Crayon Initiative has prevented 75,000 pounds of crayons from going into landfills. There they would become a waxy sludge, clogging the landfill. Instead, The Crayon Initiative has collected them and turned them into over 20,000 packs of new crayons that were donated to children’s hospitals. A much better idea, don’t you think? Bring your old crayons to Faith Formation and we will pack them up and send them to the Crayon Initiative. For more information, check out thecrayoninitiative.org.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Following the opening prayer at the 11am Mass, Father will invite all children from PreK to grade 3 to go to with our cate-chists to hear and discuss the readings for that Sunday’s Mass. They will return to you in the church after the Prayer of the Faithful.

Older siblings may participate in a different role as helpers to Mrs. Pontari. She also welcomes parent’s help. If you would like to accompany your little ones and see what it’s all about, please feel free to join them.

The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407). The weekly cele-bration of the Eucharist on Saturday evening or Sunday morning defines who we are as Catholics – in out parishes, in our house-holds of faith, in our neighborhoods, and in our world.

We have 3 Mass options every weekend: Saturday, 4pm; Sunday, 8:30am and 11am. See you in church!!

Social Justice: Caring for Environment 1 Thessalonians 1:5 " our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction."

Laudato Si 219: "Social problems must be addressed by community networks...The ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion."

“Proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and to praise His name, by being a Christ-centered, welcoming, unified community. Called to holiness, we celebrate the love of God through prayer and worship, the Eucharist and other sacraments, catechesis, evangelization and service to all. Always His people, we strive to be good stewards of our time, talent and treasure.” —Our mission statement at Immaculate Heart of Mary.
