NEWSLETTER 29th March, 2017
ISSUE 09
DET International CRICOS Code - 00861K
Dear Parents
On Monday morning, the Hon. Kim Wells MP presented badges to our student leaders for 2017 at a school assembly that focussed on leadership. These students will display consistency in the school values of Respect, Pride, Responsibility and Perseverance. They
are role models who will exhibit to their peers personal responsibility and contribute to the safe and happy learning environment at Rowville Primary School.
The leadership assembly is an important ceremony in our school calendar and I would like to acknowledge the many families and friends that joined us in celebration.
The school will close at 3.15pm on Thursday, 30th March for the term one break. Friday 31 March is a Curriculum Day and students are not required to come to school. Please note that Camp Australia will be open for parents who require childcare on Friday.
The teachers will spend the morning with Mr Ryan Dunn, a lecturer and educational researcher in Mathematics from Melbourne University. During student free days, teachers work collaboratively and explore new research and pedagogy in teaching and learning.
Rowville Primary School will be implementing a traffic management plan from the beginning of term two. From Tuesday 18 April, the Paratea Drive Carpark will be closed from 8.15-9.15am and 2.30-3.30pm. Drop off and pick up will occur in the Stud Park Shopping Centre carpark, Simon Avenue or in surrounding streets. Only DET employees will be able to access the carpark during these times. Drop off and pick up times have been identified as an OHS risk to staff and students and for this reason, from the start of term two we will be closing the car park at these times.
The School Council is meeting tonight for the Annual General
Meeting. An election meeting of office bearers for the new
School Council will be held at the end of this meeting. This will
be followed by a professional development activity between
the staff and the school council.
We will also farewell and acknowledge some members from
the current school council for their service to our school:
Narelle Thomson
Narelle has been a member of School Council for 16 years - 7 years from 2001-2007 and 9 years from 2009-2017. Narelle has been Vice President from 2016 - 2017.
Through her role on School Council, Narelle has contributed to the shared goal of improving student achievement. Narelle has been a strong parent partner at Rowville Primary School. She volunteered in the canteen and as a classroom helper. She helped with the supervision of a range of sporting events and excursions. Narelle has supported the school during key events such as the Fete, the 40th birthday celebrations and a range of fundraising events organised by FORPS.
We acknowledge the sixteen years of service that Narelle Thomson has given Rowville Primary School as a member of School Council and in her role as Vice President.
Jenny Reid
Jenny has been a member of School Council from 2015-2016. Through her role on School Council, Jenny has contributed to the shared goal of improving student achievement. Jenny contributed her expertise in the medical industry to student safety at Rowville Primary School through research, which led to the purchase of a defibrillator. Jenny was a strong advocate for a range of programs
in the school including the one-to-one device program.
We acknowledge Jenny for her two years of service on Rowville Primary School Council.
Last Friday we farewelled and congratulated Janet Young on her appointment as Business Manager at Knox Central Primary School. We acknowledged the wonderful work that Janet has undertaken in OHS and Administration at our school. We also acknowledged the care that she provided to our students through her First Aid role. We wish her all the very best in her new position.
Congratulations to the following students who earned Mathletics Certificates for last week.

From the Acting Assistant Principal
It has been a fantastic first term at Rowville Primary School in 2017. I have enjoyed visiting classrooms this week to see the outstanding teaching and learning that is taking place. A particular highlight for me personally this term has been observing our Student Parliament in action. Our Years 5 and 6 leaders have been busy debating some important issues and have been developing bills to be
passed in the House of Representatives and the Senate. I have been extremely impressed with the way in which our leaders present arguments to one another, displaying respect for their peers even when at times they may disagree. These are important social skills for students to learn, develop and apply to everyday life situations.
Congratulations to our Years 5 and 6 leaders being presented with their leadership badges by the Honourable Kim Wells. I thoroughly enjoyed having morning tea with our leaders and proud parents following the assembly. Thank you to all the staff and students for their involvement in making the morning so memorable. A reminder that the last Friday of term will be a curriculum day so students will finish on Thursday 30th March. Have a wonderful holiday and I look forward to the start of term two.

ANZAC DAY ARTWORK This term our Years 4 and 5 students have been working on the artwork for this year’s Anzac day display at the Rowville Public library (Stud Park). The artwork will be used as the backdrop for the Anzac day ceremony and will adorn the windows in the lead up to 25th April – keep an eye out as I’ve been told the artwork is going up this week. This year’s work is beautiful and has a “poppies” theme. Well done to all of our students and a big thank you to our wonderful Art teachers Lisa O’Sullivan and Carly Hawkins.
