    Part 1: The Framework day to dayThe day to day activities of academic life are guided by the

    University regulations. A working knowledge of the

    !ramework and Assessment regulations is essential for tutorswho are re/uired to advise students. The University

    The FrameworkPhilosophy

    The University odular !ramework "U!# provides a fle0ible

    framework which allows students to study full&time$ part&time as an associate student or a distance learner for

    e0ample. The !ramework covers all modules from level % to

    level ' and ensures that students have an e/uitableeducational e0perience irrespective of their programme ofstudies.

    The U! is designed to consider learning as a continuum. t

    provides a common set of progression and assessmentregulations that apply to all students undertaking taught

    modules. The U! provides the structure for the construction

    of programmes of study. t governs the design process for

    This handbook aims to e0plain theregulations and the implications of their

    application to everyday academicsituations. They are not the regulations

    themselves. The regulations that apply

    to a given piece of te0t are found inbrackets at the end of the te0t.

    modules and their organisation into a range of awards. Theframework seeks to be fle0ible enough to welcome a wide

    range of learners and to support them throughout their

    period of study. t also aims to provide a student centred

    learning e0perience that enables individual progression$development and achievement.

    Basic StructureThe University odular !ramework "U!# is made of discrete

    teaching blocks called modules which are put together toprovide a coherent programme of study. -ach module

    incorporates key skills as well as sub7ect specific content and

    each needs to be passed individually in order to achieve the

    stipulate credit.

    9ate coursework su6missio#. 0.'f an assignment is submitted late$ but within a week of the

    deadline$ and an e0tension has not been granted$ the work

    should be returned with full feedback$ but awarded a

    ma0imum grade of a bare pass "+& at levels %&< and )& atlevel #. f the work is submitted more than a week late it

    will be given a grade of =. This applies to all assignments

    Failure to su6mitassessme#t

    f an item of assessment is not submitted$ there is the right

    to resubmit at the second opportunity for a ma0imum gradeof a bare pass.

    E-ami#atio#s

    E-am dates:The e0amination period for all modules within the !ramework

    is appro0imately 3 weeks long and lasts from the beginning

    of the 3rdweek of ay to the end of the first week of :une.

    The resit e0aminations are usually scheduled for the thirdweek of August.

    (tudents must be available to sit e0ams. (ummer e0am

    timetables are published on the University intranet at theend of the Autumn term$ or the start of the (pring term.

    $dditio#al E-am Support(pecial e0amination arrangements are made for students

    with disabilities or those registered as dysle0ic or with otherspecial needs. *lease encourage your students to consult

    the Accessibility team in (tudent (ervices who should be

    consulted for guidance at the earliest opportunity.

    No# atte#da#ce at e-amsf a student fails to attend an e0amination$ a = grade isawarded. f a student misses an e0am for good reason$ the

    itigating )ircumstances procedure should be used.

    =Fit to sit>9y attending an e0am$ a student is declaring that they are

    Dfit to sitE. They are not able to claim afterwards that they
