Dear friends, You would have to be sleeping under a rock to be unaware of the controversy surround-ing the church’s teaching on marriage these days. To some extent, we have noticed that a growing number of people have rejected the idea of marriage – civil or sacramental. Our culture tends to promote convenience over covenant. Last year, Pope Francis called an Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the theme: “The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization.” And in his re-cent tour in Philadelphia he spoke on the World Meeting of Families on this emerging issue in pastoral way. Today gospel can help at least to begin to understand Jesus’ theology of the human subject is all about: “What God has joined together, no human beings must separate.” We know that this word are found in the Rite of Marriage, but they are rooted in Hebrew Scripture which understands humankind as fundamentally connected from the beginning of creation. And what Jesus is telling us that it is our “hardness of heart” that has caused us to fracture not only marriage but all our relationships. It would be important, there-fore, to reflect seriously on the gospel and come back to Jesus who binds us all together forever in God’s covenant of love. Peace be with you, Father Miguel Ceja

Queridos amigos, Tendríamos que haber estado durmiendo ba-jo una roca para no darnos cuenta de la gran controversia que se suscita ante las enseñan-zas de la Iglesia ante el tema del matrimo-nio. Es obvio como un número creciente de parejas que ya no creen en casarse, ni al ci-vil y menos y menos por la iglesia. Esta cultura actual promueve lo conveniente por encima del compromiso permanente. Hoy parece que ya nada dura para siempre. Aca-bo de venir de Filadelfia donde nuestro Gran Papa Francisco visito por primera vez. Vino a hablarnos sobre muchos temas que nos apremian, pero un tema de preocupación pa-ra él, es la familia. El Papa, junto con el Sí-nodo de Obispos, está enfrentando de mane-ra pastoral este grave problema. El Evangelio de hoy nos puede ayudar un poco, por lo menos, de entender la teología de Jesús sobre este tema tan espinoso. Nos dice que, “lo que Dios ha unido nadie ni na-da lo debe separar.” El Sacramento del ma-trimonio es indisoluble. Ya sabemos que es-ta declaración la encontramos en el Rito del Matrimonio, pero sus raíces están en la Es-critura Hebrea – la cual nos dice que el ser humano está unido fundamentalmente a Dios desde el inicio de la creación. Jesús, en el Evangelio nos dice que es “la dureza de nuestro corazón” lo que causa que los matrimonios se separen. Y, esta actitud no solo ha fracturado millones de matrimonios, sino todas nuestras relaciones. Es, por lo tanto de vital importancia regresar a los va-lores del evangelio para que Dios, por medio de su Hijo, nos una para siempre en un con-venio de amor. Paz y Bien, Padre Miguel Ceja
