KEARNY –Six people were hurt
when a commuter bus struck a tree on Belgrove Drive at 8:15 a.m. this past Monday, police said.
Kearny Police Sgt. John Taylor, traffic supervisor, said the
driver of a No. 76 NJ Transit bus heading toward North Arling-ton told police he was traveling south on Bel-grove and pulling into a stop at Woodland Ave. to pick up riders when his brakes failed.
As he tried to slow
the bus, it ran into a tree, the operator told responding officers.
Taylor said that six people were removed from the bus with mi-nor injuries and were taken to St. Michael’s Medical Center, New-ark, for treatment.
NJ Transit respond-ed and towed the bus to one of its garages, Taylor said.
No summonses have been issued and the accident remains under investigation, he added.
