From stressed-out execs who need to smash something, to property owners who feel safer and more confident learning self-defence, to students and stay-at-home moms getting and staying in good shape, we make lives better. We have specialist trainers in mixed martial arts (MMA), judo, boxing, muay Thai, boxercise, kickboxercise and functional fitness. What is a typical work day for you? There’s an awesome atmosphere in the gym. Everyone who comes in is lekker — there are no inflated egos or lousy attitudes. Everyone comes in to work hard, there’s no judgment. If you’re not sweaty and messy, you’re not working hard enough. And every- one drives everyone else to uphold the work ethic. The energy is infectious. That said, it’s also a fun, laid-back atmo- sphere. We open at 5.15am most days, and from then, until we close at 7.30pm, there are guys and gals hitting the bags or the pads or on the mats or weights. It’s a great place to work, and work out. I’ve put a lot of thought into the benefits of exercising, and the bene- fits of exercising in a combat sport especially, the way it changes you on a primal level. You were an MMA fighter. Has this made you a better businessman? There’s an art to everything. There’s a sci- ence to everything, too. You must learn, test and understand the science first, and then, when you express it in your own unique way, it becomes art (because art is self-expres- sion). I learnt that the hard way with world- class athletes punching me in the face. That was good motivation. Once the art started to fall into place, what was difficult became smooth, what was fast became slow. That’s art. Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War that war is a “game” of strategy, of leverage (levers) and force multipliers. I want to know which levers to pull to get the best results. I guess you could say 15 years of getting beaten up taught me that I liked levers. And how has it made you a better coach? I studied most of a sport psychology de- gree in my early 20s. I dropped out in the last month of my last year after getting distinc- tions all the way. I’d taken what I wanted from it. It gave me some theoretical basis. I’ve also been blessed to have a lot of time with world-class coaches like Nick Durandt and Shuaimeng Liu. I also have a very obsessive, impatient nature, so I want to develop bril- liance in my clients as quickly as possible. What did you want to be when you were a child? I wanted to be a fighter for as far back as I can remember. I remember watching a box- How to . .. As SA grapples with a high unemployment rate, especially among the youth, it is important to focus on what can be done to address the problem. Tashmia Ismail Saville, the CEO of youth employment initiative YES, says: “Business and society are intimately connected to each other. Given SA’s high inequality, lack of opportunity for youth and extraordinary rates of youth unemployment, ignoring the issue would be short-sighted.” One of the biggest barriers to employment is having no work experience, she says. She has the following advice for companies on how to make a difference in the lives of SA’s young people: Technology and the promised fourth industrial revolution provide the means for young people in remote parts of the country to have access to employment. What’s more, online training portals allow people to receive the training needed to find work no matter where they are. Frost is a former special adviser to tourism ministers Pallo Jordan and Valli Moosa. He was later appointed MD of Tourvest’s Inbound Division and subsequently set up a consulting business, where he developed destination strategies for SADC countries. SAP Africa has appointed Cameron Beveridge as regional director for Southern Africa. Beveridge previously led one of SAP Africa’s largest business units. He is an engineer by training and has an MBA from Bond University in Australia. SAP Africa MD Cathy Smith said Cameron had “undeniable passion to harness the incredible talent within the organisation”. Jason Forssman has been appointed head of equity and multi-asset fund management at Ashburton Investments. ���� ���������� �� �������� To provide strategic financial leadership to ATNS, to manage the financial health of the organisation, and to ensure ATNS’s financial sustainability • Develop ATNS financial strategy and oversee implementation of same, incorporating: Investment • Projected returns • Treasury • Cash management • Shareholder information • Develop the corporate group strategy as a member of the Executive Committee • Oversee the implementation of financial strategies throughout ATNS • Apply various funding models for different positions (Forex; Hedging Principles) • Contribute towards the delivery of company financial targets in respect of revenues, as part of the Executive Committee • Serve on (or chair) appropriate committees responsible for financial governance, management and practice to ensure appropriate financial policy and related decisions are taken • Ensure that the following is undertaken in accordance within agreed standards and ready for presentation to relevant committees: ATNS Statutory Reporting • Financial Statements and reporting• New Account Development • Group Auditor reporting • Ensure that technical accounting, corporate finance and tax related projects are undertaken and implemented • Ensure that valuations are prepared and ready for presentation to the Board and Audit Committee • Evaluate and review investment proposals in respect of all company assets and new “acquisitions” and oversee due diligence as necessary • Responsible for overseeing treasury management for ATNS including cash management • Negotiate financing options for ATNS with appropriate institutions/parties• Ensure the annual budgeting and forecasting process is aligned across ATNS • Review management accounts and analyse same for reporting and adjustment purposes and provide guidelines to Executive Committee for planning purposes • Decide on procurement strategy which will serve ATNS’s best business interests • Ensure procurement policies and practices comply with governance, legislation and regulations (PFMA) • Ensure tender processes are in line with ATNS policies, and are regular, ethical and transparent

The incumbent will be required to provide advice and analysis on public sector personnel policy and the financial implications thereof in liaison with the DPSA on personnel and general public sector reform issues.

Qualifications and experience requirements: • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a middle management level (Deputy Director) obtained in budgeting and knowledge of the Government Remuneration Policy • Knowledge and experience of the Government Wage Negotiation Process • Knowledge and experience of the Public Sector Bargaining Council functioning process • Knowledge of the Government policy framework pertaining to the broader Remuneration Policy • Minimum degree in Economics/Social Sciences/Law or Public Administration.

Some key outputs include: Personnel Budget Support: • Develop and maintain a personnel-costing model to support budgeting in National Departments and provinces • Analyse personnel budgets and provide an insight into trends in this regard • Cost various policy proposals relating to remuneration and employees benefits • Engage budget examiners and expenditure analysts to improve their understanding of personnel budgeting and costing • Provide inputs to support to the MTBPS and Budget Review contributions • Analyse departmental personnel budget submissions and contribute to budget documentation. Public Sector Personnel Policy Advice: • Advise on general reforms to structures in the public service • Analyse spending trends in personnel budgets within national and provincial governments and their major entities • Engage stakeholders on policy proposals emanating from the Department of Public Service and Administration. Remuneration Policy Alignment: • Advise the Treasury on remuneration policy for the entire public sector including local government and their entities • Liaise with internal stakeholders within the National Treasury on issues of mutual concern • Provide support and guidance on the development of personnel policies • Participate in the Internal MTEC Process. Annual Wage Negotiations in Public Sector Bargaining Council: • Represent employer in sub-committees of PSCBC and sectoral bargaining forums • Provide inputs on briefing notes to Minister of Finance on Remuneration Policy matters impacting on the public service • Prepare accurate calculation on preliminary costing proposals of various mandates.
