COURSE DESCRIPTION This symposium is designed for healthcare professionals involved in the management of trauma patients. Specialists will provide presentations on current topics and a forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas on a variety of issues. Panel discussions will also be provided to stimulate dialogue with the audience in a question and answer format.At the completion of this symposium, participants will have enhanced their skills and competence in patient care, medical knowledge, and system-based practice.

LEaRNINg OBJECTIVES At the completion of this symposium the participants should be able to: • Evaluate the imaging and management of complex chest trauma• Understand new endovascular techniques for hemorrhage control• Explain surgical techniques in a rural environment• Analyze the advances in critical care in septic patients• Evaluate the challenges in trauma surgery as a career• Illustrate the evolution in the non-operative management of penetrating trauma• Identify the relevance of the trauma registry in a trauma center• Assess ethical issues in trauma and critical care
