Artful expAnseEqually stylish and brimming with aes-thetic appeal, The VUEs 5,000-square-oot lobby lends a voyeuristic glimpseto passersby.

Last November, Rob and Leslie Miller and 16 year old daughter Kia moved

to their ultramodern enclave at The VUE, just 30 minutes west of their

suburban home in Waterford Lakes but worlds apart.

Having sold their 3,000-square-oot developer home along with all the eclectic ur-nishings, down to the grouping o motley knick-knacks above the kitchen cabinetsthe Millers and designer Regina Krush had carte blanche to create. Direction orthe new digs was clear: contemporary and incontrovertibly stylish. Everything theirprevious home was not.

Leslie, with Pomeranian pooch in tow, scoots through the lobby, down the art-lledcorridor and up to The VUEs 20th foor. Voila: the Millers brand new two-bedroompad in the sky.

Perhaps the most salient modernist eature lies straight ahead, where 20-oot foor-to-ceiling glass extends rom the main living area to the master bedroom o to theright. Paneled taeta curtains rame a 180-degree view o Lake Eola, exposing the

open layout to ample light and warmth rom the low-hanging aternoon sun.

Weve had a ew guests come visit and we always takethem through the lobby and cyber ca to explore, Lesliesays, winsomely.

Part gallery, part mod urniture, the lobby blends elementsseamlessly together, giving the combined eect o illustriousmuseum and luxe ve-star hotel. Grounding hues o oliveand peach paired with tans complement the terrazzo foorsgleaming specks o sand and glass. Its a visual wallop boast-ing travertine nishes, tempered glass replicating water withcrests and valleys and long, lean curved ceilings that all makeThe VUE synonymous with mid-century modern design.

The most novel urnishings in the building sit at the lobbysentrance: our elt-stacked, surprisingly comy chairs madeentirely o natural and biodegradable materials. The elt: re-cycled wool. The leather: tanned with vegetable based dyes.Matching ottomans like little square ice cream sandwicheswith eet fank the opposite side o the entrance.

A standout piece, the 10 by 2-oot Millenium Hope Table de-signed by Claudio Silvestrin or Cappellini is uncomplicated,

yet magnicent with its earthy hardwood nish. It leads theeye around an encompassing semicircle o sheer artistic en-ergy.

Balanced on a steel pedestal, the bronze Free Man statue byBill Starke is engaging. Equally as captivating, the installationpiece on the adjacent wood paneling made o oval paintedsteel pieces arranged over an invisible grid was crated by Ar-gentinean sculptor Carolina Sardi. The opposite wall boasts anabstract mixed media painting redolent o architectural blueprints spread across nine canvases.

    cozy IndustrIAl

Equally as hip, with exposed pipes and ductwork, the sev-enth-foor cyber ca overlooks Lake Eola. A mellow nichelled with lounge-style seating, an unmanned bar and 12-seat home theater, its where Leslie takes a break rom run-ning her home-based business or a bowl o clam chowderand chit-chat with neighbors, while surrounded by almost a

dozen more original artworks. Outside on the spacious ame-nity deck: a 600-pound, hand-chiseled glass sphere is clearlyin view.

Its all a ar cry rom 2005 when the 1.5-acre lot was unsightlyand desolate with a boarded-up gas station and a ew non-descript buildings. The transormed piece o land now has amore marquee billing.

Its otherworldly. Exactly what the Millers wanted.u
