HOLY CHILD PARISH BRIDGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA

You touch us, Healer of every illness, with hands laid on us in forgiveness, chrism that anoints us with your Spirit, oil that offers healing, and words that go right to our hearts.

May we praise you for the ways you have rescued us by offering your healing touch to our sisters and brothers in any need.

Your Abundance at the Present Time Should Supply Their Needs, so that Their Abundance May also Supply Your Needs: These words, taken from today’s second reading,

highlight the true nature of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative. All of us, individually and in our parishes, are abundantly gifted. We each bring to the table a variety of unique characteristics and talents that are used to spread the Good News of the Gospel and bring Christ to others. As our parishes prepare to come together as parish groupings, and as we seek to form and strengthen relationships with our sisters and brothers in the Church, the goal is not for these gifts to be trimmed away and wasted. Instead, we are called to work to unite the many ways we seek to do good in the world so that everyone, youth and adults of all ages, can be support in faith and in life. What can you do to help make your parish grouping The Church Alive!? What can others do to help make your

parish grouping The Church Alive!? Let us be willing to both give and receive to make our parishes on fire with the love and goodness of God. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Reflecting on the Word Healthy touch is both a gift and a necessity. Studies have been conducted about the effects of withholding touch from infants. Babies who experienced healthy touch flourished; those who experienced little or no touch did not thrive. We are all too well aware of the negative power of unhealthy touch. Its effects can take a lifetime to heal. A woman who has been ill for twelve years believes that if she just touches Jesus’ clothes, not his person, but his clothes, she will be healed. She is. Jesus is aware that power has gone forth from him and asks, “Who touched me?” When the woman comes forward in fear and trem-bling, Jesus’ words touch her heart, calming her fear and affirming her faith. He offers her peace along with the cure. Jesus takes Jairus’s dead daughter by the hand, touches her, and tells her to arise. That touch in words and body restores her to life. Healthy touch brought heal-ing in both events. In Wisdom we hear that “God formed us to be imperish-able” (2:23). Illness and death were not part of original creation. They are the result of the power of evil. But God offers us a remedy. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ offer us the possibility of life restored, life that never ends. When we follow his example, sharing our gifts with each other and asking for help in our need, we ac-cept God’s offer. Like the woman and Jairus, we only need to ask God to touch us. The touch of Jesus empow-ers us to touch others with his merciful love and turn mourning into dancing, weeping into rejoicing. Reach out and touch another person with the Jesus who reaches out to you. Living the Word Scripture Reflections and Commentaries for Sun-

days and Holy Days. Year B

News for Life: Looking for a short inspirational video to enjoy this summer? Watch I Lived on Parker Avenue

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pxu6DEPQkw) Adopted at birth and raised in Louisiana, David Scotton is on a journey to Indiana to meet the birth parents he’s never known. His tattooed birth mother, Melissa, and reserved birth father, Brian, anxiously wait for him, concerned David will reject them for decisions they made before he was born. I Lived on Parker Avenue is a power-packed true-life documentary about a mother’s agony in choosing what’s best, the joy of a couple starting a family, and young man’s search for where his life began. It is an uplifting story of hope, love, and life.

A Family Perspective (by Bud Ozar): The healing of the woman and the child in today’s gospel is a reminder we are all wounded. We retreat to those we love looking for acceptance, listening, understanding and support. Families must be healing communities where Jesus is present in our care for one another.
