20th June 2018 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whanau, It is hard to believe we only have just over two weeks left of Term 2. There have been many highlights for me this term, but I must say a couple that stand out would have to be the amazing cultural experiences and new learning for the children through our “Passion Projects” thanks to members of our school community for your support and involvement in these events. The other stand out would have to be the leadership qualities displayed by so many of our senior students throughout this term. They have demonstrated our school values of Resilience, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence , and have been amazing role models. MATARIKI It has been fantastic to see all of the children involved in a variety of Matariki activities. The children have been writing amazing stories, completing stunning art work, planning shared food events, plays and so much more. Our Year 5 and 6 children had an amazing experience at the Wainuiomata Marae last Friday where they performed their Kapa Haka amazingly and watched several other schools perform along with all schools setting up displays to share their Matariki work. I was so proud of our children and how passionate they were when performing. NEW STAFF We will be welcoming Kinny Liu to our school team at the beginning of Term 3. Kinny will be taking over the teaching role in Manuka class. Kinny is moving to Wellington from Auckland. Kinny is an experienced teacher and we are looking forward to welcoming her to the team.

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whanau,

It is hard to believe we only have just over two weeks left of Term 2. There have been many highlights for me this

term, but I must say a couple that stand out would have to be the amazing cultural experiences and new learning

for the children through our “Passion Projects” thanks to members of our school community for your support

and involvement in these events.

The other stand out would have to be the leadership qualities displayed by so many of our senior students

throughout this term. They have demonstrated our school values of Resilience, Integrity, Teamwork and

Excellence , and have been amazing role models.

MATARIKI

It has been fantastic to see all of the children involved in a variety of Matariki activities. The children have been

writing amazing stories, completing stunning art work, planning shared food events, plays and so much more.

Our Year 5 and 6 children had an amazing experience at the Wainuiomata Marae last Friday where they

performed their Kapa Haka amazingly and watched several other schools perform along with all schools setting

up displays to share their Matariki work. I was so proud of our children and how passionate they were when

performing.

NEW STAFF

We will be welcoming Kinny Liu to our school team at the beginning of Term 3. Kinny will be taking over the

teaching role in Manuka class. Kinny is moving to Wellington from Auckland. Kinny is an experienced teacher and

we are looking forward to welcoming her to the team.

MID YEAR PARENT INTERVIEWS

Mid-year interviews for all children will be held in Week 10 on Monday, 2nd July and Tuesday, 3rd July. More

detailed information about this will be sent home in a separate newsletter on Monday explaining how to book a

time for an interview online.

Mid-Year reports will be sent out next week ahead of these interviews.

NZEI PAID UNION MEETINGS

You will be aware from the media of the current key issues in education:

1. General lack of resourcing

2. Teacher shortage-attracting and retaining teachers

3. Lack of resources for children with special needs

NZEI is running the campaign “It’s Time”- Kau Tae Te Wa", to highlight these issues as well as working through

the process to renew the Teacher and Principal collective agreement.

On the afternoon of Friday, 29th June, Teachers from Kelson School will be attending a NZEI Paid Union

Meeting. To support our teachers with this, we would appreciate you picking up your child/children at 12.30pm

on Friday 29th June.

A Signmee will be emailed to you tomorrow. Please fill in the response form by Wednesday, 27th June to give us

an indication of who will be left at school so we can arrange supervision for the remaining children. Please be

aware normal class programmes will not be running due to most of the staff attending the union meeting.

Thank you for your on-going support.

WINTER WEATHER

This is another reminder to please put spare clothes in your children's bags. The School Office have run out of

spare clothes to change children into if they get wet and muddy. Thank you to the families who have already

organised this. Please return any clothes your child has borrowed.

BOOKCLUB

Issue 4 of the Bookclub closes tomorrow, Thursday 21st June.

SIGNMEE

We have been really pleased with the uptake so far. It has been great to hear the positive comments from many

of you, and we are sure that as we learn how to better use the system, everyone will reap the benefit. Thank you

for your support in all of this. If you have already signed up, you can go in at any stage and check your SignMee

inbox by going to www.signmee.com and logging in. An email has been sent to new families inviting you to sign

up. If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to contact Nicky Harrison in the School Office.

Please remember to contact me if you have any feedback, queries or concerns.

Kindest regards,

Judy Pemberton

KELSON SCHOOL SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

Monday, 2 July 2.30pm to 8.00pm & Tuesday, 3 July 2.30pm to 6.30pm.

Whilst you wait for your interview with your child's teacher, get out of the cold and come into the library for the

Book Fair. During next week, your child will be viewing the Book Fair and will bring home a 'wish list' of what

they liked.

The more books we sell at this Book Fair, the more it will benefit the children at this school. Each book sold

enables Kelson School to purchase new and exciting books for the children to enjoy. So come along and help to

enhance the reading and literacy at our school.

More information will be sent out early next week.
