Maths Writing Topic Reading

Day 1 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times table.Lesson 1: Recognise a third.

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-2/Lesson-1-Y2-Spring-Block-4-WO6-Recognise-a-third-2019.pdf

You could also:

Draw some different shapes and find a third of them by cutting or colouring a third. You could get different items of food and practise putting them into thirds.

Day 1: Gather key vocabularyYou are going to write your own setting description. Choose a place of your choice. It could be somewhere you have been or somewhere you want to go. E.g. the farm, the park, your garden, a beach, somewhere on a holiday etc. The most important thing about the place you choose is remembering what it looks like.

Now you have chosen your setting you can draw it. Once you have drawn it you are going to create a vocabulary word bank of different things you see, hear, smell, feel and taste (use your 5 senses). You are going to create your word bank by labelling your picture with adjectives (describing words), expanded noun phrases ( the long yellow slide), similes (sand as soft as a cloud) , metaphors ( the grass is a long green blanket) etc.

Day 1: Complete KWL.Our new Topic is called ‘Ready Steady Grow’ and is all about plants and what they need to survive.

Can you write two – three sentences about what you already know about plants. After you have done this, think of some things you would like to find out during this topic and write them down. Think of some questions you might want to ask and record them.

Day 1: Design your own front cover.

Think about a book you have previously read. Can you create a new front cover and think of a new title for the book.

Page 2: 2024.rushymeadow.education€¦ · Web viewUse any items you want from around the house: lego, fruit, pasta etc to then find a half, a third and a quarter of different amounts. Day

Day 2 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times tableLesson 2: Find a third.

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-2/Lesson-2-Y2-Spring-Block-4-WO7-Find-a-third-2019.pdfYou could also:You could have 3 groups and then use lego/blocks/counters/pasta to make each group equal to identify that one of the groups is a third.Give a certain amount of items and then they have to be shared equally between 3 groups to find what a third of that number is e.g. sharing 9 counters between 3 groups to understand that a third of 9 is 3.Draw a number of circles and then find out a third of each amount by sharing them equally into 3 groups.

Explain how you know you have found a third: I know a third of ________is ______ because ________________.

Day 2: I can plan a setting description.

Think of your chosen setting. Look at your drawing and the word bank you created. You are going to plan your setting description by drawing a box for each sense that will include pictures and key words.

If your setting was a beach and you drew a box which was for the sense ‘taste’ you could include: pictures of ice cream, waves and the sea and then your key words could be cold creamy ice cream and salty blue waves.

You will complete a box for each of the senses: see, hear, taste, feel and smell.

Day 2: Research the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

Use these websites to find out about Giuseppe Arcimboldo.https://www.giuseppe-arcimboldo.org/https://primaryfacts.com/5660/giuseppe-arcimboldo-facts-and-information/https://www.myinterestingfacts.com/giuseppe-arcimboldo-facts/

After finding out about him, create a fact file or a poster to inform people who he was and what he was famous for.

Day 2: Choose a character.

Choose your favourite character from a book and create a character description.

Draw your character and around the outside write adjectives to describe their physical appearance. Then think about your characters interests and emotions and write them on the inside.

Day 3 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times tableLesson 3: Unit Fractions.

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-2/Lesson-3-Y2-

Day 3: I can write a setting description.

Look at your drawing of the setting, your word bank and your plan.

Day 3: Explore and recreate Arcimboldo’s Four Seasons paintings.

Look at the four season pictures and choose one of the seasons to recreate e.g. spring. Design your face by

Day 3: Write a ‘blurb’ for the book you have read.

A blurb is the text on the back of a book. It is a summary of the story. It aims to get the reader interested in

Spring-Block-4-WO8-Unit-fractions-2019.pdf

Unit fractions is a fraction where the numerator (top number) is 1 and the denominator (bottom number) is a whole number.

You could also:

You could draw shapes and put them into 2 equal parts (2 halves), 3 equal parts (thirds) and 4 equal parts (quarters). Then shade in a half, a third and a quarter of your shapes and write the fraction underneath each one.

Explain how you know what fraction each shape represents: Shape ___ represents a _____ because ____ out of ____ parts has been shaded in.

Use any items you want from around the house: lego, fruit, pasta etc to then find a half, a third and a quarter of different amounts.

You are going to start with your first two or three senses on your plan.

For example you may be thinking:

What can you see at your setting? What can you hear? What might you taste if you were there?

You could use a story setting word mat from Twinkl that has words like: calm, peaceful, bright, glorious, beautiful, creepy, majestic.https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t2-e-1500-wow-words-for-describing-a-setting-poster

As well as a sentence opener word mat as well where you can find different ways to start your sentences e.g. in the middle of, in the distance, under the, next to the, inside the etc.https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-4471-sentence-openers-mat

drawing what you would use to make the face e.g. fruits, vegetables, sticks or twigs. After you have designed your face, label the fruits/vegetables you used. Colour in your design.

buying or reading the book. They are short in length. They use attention-grabbing words and phrases. They tend to use questions and exclamation marks. They often use three full stops at their ends (an ellipsis) to leave the reader asking questions..

Make sure you include some of the interesting parts and who the main characters are but do not give all the story away as you want people to read the story to find out what might happen next.

Page 4: 2024.rushymeadow.education€¦ · Web viewUse any items you want from around the house: lego, fruit, pasta etc to then find a half, a third and a quarter of different amounts. Day

Day 4 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times tableLesson 4: Non-Unit Fractions

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-2/Lesson-4-Y2-Spring-Block-4-WO9-Non-unit-fractions-2019.pdf

A non-unit fraction is a fraction where the numerator (top number) is greater than 1. This lesson will focus on non-unit fractions where the denominator (bottom number) either ends in 2,3 or 4.You could also:

Draw some shapes and put them into 2, 3 or 4 equal parts. E.g. If you shade in 1 part you would have a quarter. What would you have if you shade in 2 parts?Have a go at creating a table with unit fractions and non-unit fractions to show your understanding.

Day 4: I can write a setting description.Today you are going to write about the 2/3 senses you have left. Make sure you still use your drawing, word bank and plan to help with your writing.Remember to think about different adjectives (describing words you can include), expanded noun phrases (e.g. the bright green grass) and sentence starters you can use in your setting description.

Day 4: Explore and recreate Arcimboldo’s Four Seasons paintings.

You should have drawn your face and labelled what fruits or vegetables you used. If possible recreate your face with actual fruits/vegetables/sticks etc.

If you do not have the fruits/vegetables to make your face, you can design another face from a different season.

Day 4: Complete your own book review.Choose a book that you have read. Create your own review on the book.

Here are some of the things that you might want to include in your book review:

A star rating Who the main characters are A summary of the book Who might want to read the

book (audience) Your favourite part How it made you feel when

reading the book

Page 5: 2024.rushymeadow.education€¦ · Web viewUse any items you want from around the house: lego, fruit, pasta etc to then find a half, a third and a quarter of different amounts. Day

Day 5 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times tableLesson 5: Equivalence of a half and 2 quarters.

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-2/Lesson-5-Y2-Spring-Block-4-WO10-Equivalence-of-half-and-two-quarters-2019.pdf

You could cut some strips of paper and fold one into 2 parts and fold the other into 4 equal parts. Compare one of the two equal parts with two of the four equal parts. What do you notice?

You could draw some shapes and split them into 2 equal parts and 4 equal parts. Shade in 2 parts on each of your shapes. What do you notice? What is the same? What is different?

I know a ______ and _____ quarters are the _______ because __________.

Day 5: I can edit my setting description.Read through your setting description to make sure it makes sense.

Check your capital letters and full stops.

Go through your description and correct your spellings if necessary.

Can you make it more descriptive? Can you make the adjectives more exciting? E.g. instead of big you could use massive or gigantic.

Day 5: Observe and classify plants in the local environment.

Look at the photographs on websites like Ispot to identify different plants and animals. You can filter for certain places so you can find out what is local.https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/morden-hall-park/features/outdoor-plantshttps://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland

When you next go on a walk or go into your garden, see if you can spot any of the plants or animals you identified on the website.

Day 5: Create some questions for someone in your house to answer.

Make sure you choose someone who has read the book so they can answer questions about it. If they haven’t read the book ask them to read some pages and then think of some questions for them to answer based on the pages they have read. Make sure you know what the answers are and where you can find them in the book.

Some examples of question starters might be:Where did…How did ( )feel? Why did…Where was
