Topic Reading

Day 1 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times table. You can also practise your times tables by using Times Tables Rock Stars.

Lesson 1: Fact families- number bonds to 20.

A fact family is a group of math facts or equations created using the same set of numbers. We are going to focus on addition and subtraction when completing the fact families.

Draw your two ten frames (see below)

Day 1: I can understand what a verb is and use it correctly.

A verb is a word which describes an action, an occurrence or a state of being. They are also commonly known as 'doing' words. Some examples of verbs are: standing, dancing, stood, ran and walked.

If you would like to find out more about verbs please see the link below:https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-4871-verbs-powerpoint

You are going to create your own word bank of verbs. Make sure you keep hold of this as you will need it for the next day’s learning.

Can you think of some past tense, future tense and present tense verbs?

This week you will need some vegetables e.g. carrots, celery, lettuce (see day 4) if you want to complete the activity on day 5.Day 1:  Read Oliver’s Vegetables by Vivian French. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcxnE4Xh0-g

What was Oliver’s favourite

Day 1: Look at front cover of the book below.

Answer these questions:

1. What do you think the story might be about by reading the title and why?

Page 2: 2024.rushymeadow.education  · Web viewHome Learning Project Week Beginning 11.05.2020. Dear Parent and carer, Please see the information below for activities your child needs to

Draw different colour circles on your ten frames to represent a number sentence that you can use for different fact families. You could draw 12 blue circles and 8 red circles so your number bond would be 12 + 8 = 20. Make sure you write out your family fact number bonds for 12 + 8. E.g.20 - 8 = 12 8 + 12 = 2020 - 12 = 8

Reasoning: Use your knowledge of number bonds to explain how you know the fact family is correct. You can use what you know about number bonds to 10 and 20 to help with this.

E.g. I know 12 + 8 = 20 because ____ + ________ = 10.

When you have written out your number bonds to 20 fact families think about what patterns you notice. What is the same? What is different? How can you use other number facts

E.g. I ran /I am going to run and I am running.

Look at the verb bank you have created. Choose some different verbs with different sentences and write your own sentences with the verb in.

vegetable?

What other vegetables did he eat at his Grandparents’ house?

What is your favourite vegetable? Why do you like it?

Can you make a food diary on what Oliver ate each day?

2. How does the illustration (pictures) on the front cover demonstrate that aliens love underpants?

3. Can you tell if there is a main character in this story by looking at the cover?

You could also :

Mo has 4 blue sweets and 3 pink sweets.

Rosie has 4 blue sweets and 5 pink sweets.

Who has more sweets? How do you know?

I know _____ has more sweetsbecause ________________.

Day 2: I can understand and use adverbs correctly.

An adverb is a word that describes a verb within a sentence. For instance, in the sentence 'Veronica laughed loudly', 'loudly' is the adverb because it describes how Veronica laughed.

If you would like to find out more about adverbs please see the link below:

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-4872-adverbs-powerpoint

Look at your verb bank from yesterday. You are going to use this today because you are now going to describe those verbs. Remember when describing verbs you need to make sure the adverb you choose

Day 2: Below are examples of vegetables that represent each part of the plant. Can you write what part of the plant it is? See examples below.

Vegetable Part of plantCarrot RootAsparagus StemLettuceCauliflowerTomatoCornSpinach

Can you add any more vegetables to the table?

Day 2: Now listen to the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and answer the questions. We will be focusing on this book for the week.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWbSrmuyptw(I have included the text from the story below for anyone who does not have internet access).

1. What do the aliens know about underpants, and how do you think they know this? Look for clues in the illustrations of the sculptures and flying saucers on the first few pages.

2. Name the three different settings that the story takes place in. What clues did the text and illustrations provide to help you with your answer?

3. Why does the author use the

Fill in ten frames by drawing dots to represent 9 + 3 and then 9 + 4.

Once you have done this fill in the statement below to make it correct using < or > .

9 + 3 ________ 9 + 4

Use <, > or = to make the statements below correct:

3 + 5 _____ 3 + 97 + 2 ______ 4 + 210 + 5 _______ 9 + 6

20 – 5 _____ 20 – 617 – 4 ______ 13 -411 – 3 ______ 12 – 4

makes sense. E.g. I swam quickly or I swam carefully. Think about which adverb would make more sense to put with the verb you are using.

You are going to write a list of all the different adverbs you can think of e.g. slowly/ quickly.

Once you have written out a list of adverbs, look at your verb bank and have a think about what ones can go together.

You are then going to write sentences including a verb ( past/present or future tense) and an adverb so you are describing how the action is being done.

Example:You may have the slept. You could then write- I slept quietly in my bed.

When you have written your sentences, check your spellings and edit any if necessary.

Can you test some people in your household about what a verb is and what an adverb is? You could maybe give an example and get someone to decide if it is a verb or adverb.

phrase ‘next door’s funny game’ to describe the washing disappearing?

4. What do the words ‘whizzy’, ‘zinging’ and ‘zoom’ tell you about how the aliens move?

Day 3 Daily: Practise 2,5 and 10 times tableLesson 3: I can use my knowledge of number facts to solve problems.

https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Y2-Lesson-3-Related-facts-2019.pdf

You could also answer the questions below :

Use your knowledge of Diennes ( draw squares to represent ones and a tall line to represent a ten) to answer the question below by drawing.

3 + 5 = 8 30 + 50 = 80 ( represent these number sentences by drawing Diennes).

What is the same about your drawings? What is different?

Eva has 2 red pens and 3 blue pens. How many pens does she have altogether?

Tommy has 20 red pens and 30 blue pens. How many pens does he have altogether? Use the last question to help you.

Day 3: I can understand what questions are and write them correctly.

A question is a type of sentence that we ask or write to gain further information from a person or people responding. Written questions are punctuated with a question mark to show that the sentence has been completed.

To find out more about questions please use the link below:https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-53629-year-1-using-question-marks-warm-up-powerpointThe link says Year 1 but this is just to give an overview of what a question is and to offer some interactive opportunities.

Write down all the different question starters you can think of. Once you have done this, you can check by verbally creating a question with one of the starters and saying it loud to make sure it makes sense.

Now you are going to use your question starters to write some questions of your own. Remember: a question starts with a capital letter

Day 3: Why are fruits and vegetables important?

Fruits and vegetables provide important vitamins and fibre. These nutrients help make you healthy and grow strong.
