WELCOME BACK PREP STUDENTS We were so thrilled to have welcomed back our Prep students last week. Thanks to our friends at Vermont South Bunnings, each Prep student was presented with a beautiful plant to take home and nurture. In class, students have discussed ways they can look after their plants at home. This wellbeing gift was to recognise the growth that each Prep child has displayed whilst learning remotely and throughout the year. Included with each plant was the following poem: We are so proud of all the hard work that you have shown, During Remote Learning you have certainly grown. Here is a gift from me, For you to love and take care of on your own.

2022 GRADE PLACEMENTS It’s hard to believe that we are soon to commence our process for class structures for 2022. Our aim is to create learning groups that provide the best learning environment and opportunities for all of our students.

Principal

What are the criteria that we use to make up class lists?

Factors influencing class structures are: • the educational needs of the students; • the projected number of students in each year level; • the ratio of girls to boys; • the number of teachers employed at the school; and

• resources and facilities. What is the process for placing students into classes?

• academic performance – judgments over time

• work habits eg ability to work independently

• behaviour

• gender

• social network /friendships

• social maturity

• special needs eg twins, siblings. Based on the criteria listed above, teaching staff and administration meet Mid-Term 4 to establish classes for the following school year. Teachers ensure each new class has: • a balance of academic ability

• gender balance

• socially balanced groups

During this process, changes and adjustments are made over several weeks. Each change may trigger a chain reaction of other changes. Proposed class lists are submitted to the Principal and Assistant Principals for final ratification. Once balanced classes are formed, the teachers are then allocated to the class we feel will offer the best learning opportunities with a particular group of students. Students will have the opportunity to meet their 2022 teacher and new classmates during our Promotion Parade on Tuesday 7th December. With this in mind, parents are now invited to write to me about any additional information that will help us in determining a placement for your child. The closing date for letters is Monday 8th November.

Please note, letters need to focus on the educational needs of their child and not on specific teachers. There will be a number of staff who are changing year levels next year as part of our staff development program so requests for specific teachers are not feasible for 2022. The closing date for letters is Monday 8th November and letters received after this date cannot be accepted unless in exceptional circumstances. Please address these letters directly to myself with all details and information provided kept in confidence. PLANNING FOR 2022 We are now in planning mode for 2022. If you are aware your child/ren will not be able to return to Templeton next year, please let me know in writing as soon as possible. This is particularly important as we need to ensure we have the right number of students for each of our classes next year. PREP 2023 ENROLMENTS NOW OPEN With 2022 Prep enrolments finalised, we are now seeking sibling and new family enrolments for 2023. School tours for new families to Templeton are also open for November and December bookings. Please contact our Enrolments Officer, Mrs Trudy O’Neill, to arrange a time for me to meet our newest Templeton students. COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS A reminder that Monday 1st November is a Curriculum Day and we look forward to welcoming all our students back onsite on Wednesday 3rd November. Please note that current drop off and pick up arrangements will remain in place for next week and we will return to normal pre-covid arrangements from Monday 8th November. DROP OFF & PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS FOR WEEK 5 - WEDNESDAY 3rd to FRIDAY 5th NOVEMBER ARRIVAL All students can arrive at school between 8.40am and 9.00am. Prep & Grade 1 students enter through Crestdale Road main gate. Grade 2 students enter through the Crestdale Road Tradesman’s gate. Grade 3 to 6 students enter through the Birchfield Crescent gates. Siblings can enter together through any gate.

END OF THE DAY PREP Prep students and their siblings will finish school at 3.20pm each day and leave through the Crestdale Road main gate. Each Prep class will have a designated area outside the school gates where they will be collected by their parents. Prep M and Prep S are located on the house side of Crestdale Road, whilst Prep V, Prep Z and Prep G will be located on the school side of Crestdale Road. GRADE 1 Grade 1 students and their siblings will finish school at 3.30pm each day and leave through the Crestdale Road main gate. Each Grade 1 class will have a designated area outside the school gates where they will be collected by their parents. Grade 1C and Grade 1W are located on the house side of Crestdale Road, whilst Grade 1F, Grade 1N and Grade 1S will be located on the school side of Crestdale Road. GRADE 2 Grade 2 students and their siblings exit through Crestdale Road Tradesman’s gate at 3.30pm and walk across the crossing and meet their parents across the road in front of the houses. GRADE 3 – 6 Grade 3 – 6 students exit through the Birchfield Crescent gates at 3.30pm (except if they have a Prep, Grade 1 or Grade 2 sibling, they exit on Crestdale Road with them). FROM MONDAY 8th NOVEMBER - All students return to a 3.30pm finish Parents are allowed back onsite for drop off and pick up. Parents are able to attend assembly. Parents who need to enter school buildings MUST use the QR Code sign in system indicating their

vaccination status. Our preference remains that only vaccinated adults (except those exempted for medical reasons)

come on site. This will help keep our school open. Students can enter and exit the school from any gate, however we encourage Grade 3 to 6

students to use the Birchfield Crescent gates at drop off and pick up when possible.

WORLD SCHOOL STAFF DAY Finally, today is World Teachers Day, or as I refer to it - World School Staff Day. This encapsulates all staff who work in schools. Whether it is office staff, student support staff, grounds and maintenance staff, tech staff, classroom and specialists’ teachers, coordinators, management - every staff member plays an important role and it is the synergetic effect of the whole team working together that creates the stimulating and challenging learning environment that we all enjoy here at Templeton. Today I would like to acknowledge everyone who works at Templeton for all the work they do for our students and our school. During the challenging time of remote learning, the staff at Templeton worked tirelessly to ensure the school continued to operate efficiently. They supervised students at Mini School and they prepared curriculum resources for the students and engaged with them and their parents to provide valuable learning opportunities. Our Mini School was the best organised and run Mini School in Australia due to the efforts of all staff who participated in supervising our students. On behalf of all the families who were fortunate enough to benefit from this service, I know, if you haven’t already, you would like to pass on your appreciation and thanks to Mrs Edwards and our staff. Our Mini School program supported a huge number of families in need! So on behalf of our community, I would like to offer a huge THANK YOU to all our staff at Templeton for making our school, a great school! Have a great long weekend. Rod McKinlay Principal
