Queridos Feligreses de Santa Maria, Me llamo Padre Andrés Buchanan, y

soy el nuevo sacerdote aquí en nuestra parroquia. En este tiempo de transición, he revisado mi vida, y esto me da mucha oportu-nidad de dar gracias a Dios por sus muchas bendiciones. Una de esas bendiciones de Dios en mi vida es que siempre he estado muy cerca de mi familia. También, en 2009, yo me convertí a la iglesia Católica, porque desde mi naci-miento, nuestra familia y yo practicábamos una religión Protestante. Después de mi conversión, asistí a la univer-sidad y luego, trabajé en labores que me en-señaron la importancia del trabajo manual. En el 2014, entré en el seminario, con el de-seo de rezar y pensar más sobre mi vocación. Este tiempo de formación para el sacerdocio fueron años en que gradualmente desarrollé una apreciación más profunda por las bendi-ciones de la iglesia y el sacerdocio. Sellado para siempre con la gracia del sacerdocio en 2020, y, después de un año de ministerio en la iglesia Santo Domingo, en Bolingbrook, estoy muy feliz de estar aquí en la parroquia de Santa María. En suma, por favor, recen por mí, para que yo pueda ser un buen sacerdote en mi servicio a Dios y a esta parroquia, y siempre cuenten en mis oraciones por ustedes. En Cristo, Padre Andrés

Dear Parishioners of St. Mary’s, My name is Fr. Andrew Buchanan and I am the new priest here at our parish. In this time of transition, I have had the opportunity to review my life and this review has given me the occasion to give thanks to God for His many blessings. One of the blessings of God in my life is that I have always been close to my family. Also, in 2009, I converted to the Catholic Church, after having grown up practicing a Protestant religion. After converting, I went to college and afterward, work several jobs that taught me the importance of manual labor. After working at these jobs, I entered the seminary in 2014 with the desire to pray and think more about my vocation. This time of formation for the priesthood were years in which I gradually developed a greater appreciation for the blessings of the Church and the priesthood. Sealed forever with the grace of the priesthood in 2020, and after one year of ministry in St. Dominic’s parish in Bolingbrook, I am very happy to be here at St. Mary’s. And he promoted the filioque. Filioque is Latin for the four small words—“and from the Son”—used in the Nicene Creed to describe the origin of the Holy Spirit, who, Catholics and Protestants believe, “proceeds from the Father and the Son.” Draw strength from our Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer God, and honor the Blessed Trinity today by praying a “Glory Be.”

Hard Work Requires Rest. After all the traveling light last week to do ministry, Jesus tries to take the apostles away for some rest.

But the people see them go, discover where they are headed, and get there first. Oh, my! So, Jesus minis-ters to them by teaching many things. After we work hard at mercy works, sometimes we can rest. Some-

times not. How can I find some rest from work in the quiet

place of prayer? How can my restful prayer strengthen me to do

more? What will I do next?

Infant Baptisms: Congratulations! We look forward to welcoming your child into the life of the Church. It is required for parents to attend two preparation classes before having their child baptized. Please call the Parish Center to register for classes prior to the birth of your child. When choosing godparents, please keep in mind that godparents are required to be practicing Catholics who have received the sacraments of Baptism, the Eucharist, and Confirmation and are at least 16 years of age.

WEDDINGS: Arrangements are to be made six months in advance with one of the priests.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION): Saturdays, 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. in the Church, or anytime by appointment.
