Thanks to all those that attended and those that made the Summer BBQ at the Beach Pavilion a great evening. A special thanks to Jim MacDonald for the music and the great dance tunes. We held a draw with proceeds going to GAMRU. ************************************************************************* Once the boats are out of the water do not forget that we have planned a Commodore’s Ball\Bash\Soiree for Saturday, November 6 at Galileo Gardens on Highway 8 by Winona Road. We have the musical band Introduction again this year. Members remember if you have not signed up by now, we have opened it up for guests now. There is a limited number of spots as the hall can only accommodate 82 people under current Covid restrictions. We are rerunning the information on a following page. ************************************************************************* For many years, Canadian Commodores around the lake have met regularly to discuss items of interest to mutually benefit and enhance clubs. At a most recent meeting, we discussed club members actions and the lack of available slips. Some clubs have found it necessary to come up with a code of conduct for members. They believe Covid has stressed people’s tolerance levels to the point that social interactions have become strained to the point where one incident almost came to a fist fight. Covid has also brought many new boaters into yacht clubs occupying what used to be open slips. Many clubs now have waiting lists. This has caused issues for many with reciprocal cruises. Something we found and know about all to well after this year. Fortunately, we do track our reciprocals. So we know what clubs like to visit us. I know our Cruise Directors will use this information to plan future cruises to make their jobs a little easier. ************************************************************************* Labour Day is typically the last hurrah for many of us. It always seems to mark the end of boating season as we start to ready the boats to come out of the water. Hopefully everyone has submitted their winter questionnaire and received their haul out date from the marina. Plus mark November 28th at 2:00 p.m. for our AGM. Stay well and be safe. Where Have all the Flowers Gone

For some of us old folk we remember this song from the 1950s and 60s. The original song was written and performed by Pete Seeger. Versus were added in 1960 by Joe Hickerson and sung by the Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary. We all have our own thoughts and memories on the song. But for me, it is a transition through life throughout years as we have an impact people until our passing. While members come and go, there are many members who have had an impact on FPYC. There are certainly many that I may not mention now. But I wanted to recognize some that have either sold their boats or left the club during the past year. Not that they have passed away. But they have moved on to a different chapter in their life and who have definitely made an impact from their support of FPYC. So, in no particular order, they are: Diane and Dave MacLean - After many years of being active, Diane as a previous Treasurer and Dave who helped out with just about anything, sold their boat in 2019. But they maintained a social membership until 2021. Karyn & Dean Maddeaux – They have just sold their boat and have decided to undertake a new adventure. They were always supportive and stepped up to be Treasurer and Membership Director, respectively. Teresa & Wayne Bryant – They have only been at the club for a few years. They have sold their boat to move on in their journey. What many may not have known is that they provided food at our Pre Splash BBQ. Sue MacDonald & Dave Spragge – They have sent their boat north with new owners. Sue and Dave have been very supportive of the club taking on Directors rolls, Social and Cruising. But they have quietly helped out behind the scenes too. Some other notable recent ‘departees’ are: Debbie Hauser and Jayne Herring, who were previous Communications Directors and did our Scuttlebutt plus managing our Facebook page. Sue Millar and Gunter Lorscheidt were very active after joining the club as a Director and our resident Chef at SailPast. Judie & Doug Galvin were Directors and Commodore. Thanks to all for making FPYC the best club on the lake. You are and will be missed!!

How Can I Help for Our AGM?

The Executive is getting ready for our Annual General Meeting, November 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom. There is a number of items members can assist us with in preparation for the AGM. • Social Events - Typically, we have a Pre Splash BBQ, SailPast, New Members Meet and Greet, Summer BBQ and Commodore’s Ball. There has been a brief discussion about moving SailPast to mid to late June to avoid the insects. Do members have any thoughts on this or any other Social Event? It can be a new idea or to make something better. (We know Covid has been an issue over the past few years. Covid comments are unnecessary as we are going to be constantly adjusting as regulations change.) Please email Tom Dunmore with comments. • Cruising – Covid has caused many issues related to club cruises. Some clubs in the Toronto area were forced to put their boats in the water. Plus, Clubs have seen a decrease in the number of open slips as new boaters have entered the scene. Typically, we have our list of reciprocal cruises planned for next year. Currently, we are looking at potential reciprocal cruises. Do you have a suggestion on a location you would like to see a reciprocal cruise? Please email a Cruise Director with your suggestion. • Volunteer – Please consider helping your club. There are many activities we need a member’s help. We need to fill vacancies on our Board. We need members to step up and help on the day of cruises and social events. If you can help, please email either the Commodore or Director responsible for the activity. If we could get every member to help for an hour, it would really mean a lot to your Executive.
