PERFORMANCES & ANNUAL EXAMS

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES We offer performance opportunities to all classes throughout the year including annual End of Year Concert. All students are encouraged to take part in performances as it is a fantastic opportunity to build up confidence and teamwork skills. It is a wonderful, uplifting experience for students who participate. All students will learn the choreography in class. Dance Pointe performances are optional and students will be asked to nominate whether they wish to perform. If students do not wish to perform, they should still attend class.END OF YEAR CONCERTPerformer confirmations for End of Year Concert are due by end of June. Dances are started in July, and it is a huge task organising costumes and performers. Be prepared to spend between $70–200 on each costume. All performers are expected to attend their weekly scheduled class/es in addition to all rehearsals, photo day and performances after signing up to perform at the End of Year Concert. Any team member with poor attendance will be dismissed from their concert dance.LOCAL EVENT PERFORMANCES We email a call out for performers when a performance opportunity comes up and select 1-3 dances per event according to performer availability.  Dances are practised in class and one mandatory dress rehearsal is scheduled the Saturday before the performance 1-2pm at Dance Pointe studios. There is no charge for this rehearsal. All performers will need either a Dance Pointe T-shirt or studio jacket to be worn over their costume before and after their performance. See your online portal under ‘Costume’ icon for costume requirements.

Students are encouraged to sit examinations to help build confidence, self-esteem and discipline. It also gives them the opportunity to work towards a goal other than the performances and give an indication of their dance technique level. The APDA examinations will be held in June. Examination dates are set by the association. There is also a compulsory workshop and mock exam in Semester 1 and it is imperative that students attend these so they know what is expected of them, and learn how the examination will run. Elementary level students and up are also required to attend two weekly classes in their exam genre to develop required technical skills to pass their examination. We highly recommend all +7yrs exam candidates to attend two weekly classes in their exam genre as well for best results. Please also note that there is a set uniform for all examinations, students are required to purchase this closer to the exam date.

POLICIES, RULES & ETIQUETTE

CLASS PROCEDURES ATTENDANCES /ABSENCESAttendance on a weekly basis is crucial if progress is to be made. It is the students’ responsibility to keep up with their class. Too many absences can prevent a student from obtaining the skills necessary to advance. Should you not be able to attend a session, please notify the studio, so that we don’t worry about you and that we can plan the class accordingly. We make every effort to begin and end classes on time. Students who are 10 minutes late to class or more may be asked to watch since initial warm-ups and stretches done at the beginning of class are vital to injury prevention. There is no carryover fee or credit against tuition for missed classes. Makeup classes for missed classes may be available, contact Miia for more information. You have the option to pay for classes casually. If a class is cancelled due to teacher being unavailable or a public holiday, Dance Pointe will reschedule the class.CLASS PROCEDURES, RULES & ETIQUETTEWe ask that no spectators be in the studio during class at any time as we encourage independent learning and it can become distracting to the dancers. Your other option is to choose our Introduction to Dance classes where spectators are invited in on weekly basis.

• Please be on time.• Teacher will meet the dancers at reception and invite them into the class room.• All dancers are to bring their own water bottle to class.• Eating is not permitted in the studios.• Talking is to be kept to a minimum.• You are expected to attend every scheduled class and rehearsal. Should you not be able to

attend a session, please notify the studio.• Students are not permitted to leave the classroom without the permission of the teacher.

It is expected that when you attend your Dance Pointe class that all rules and requirements are adhered to.

PHONES IN CLASSPhones may only be used by students in an emergency situation. Students are not to answer mobiles in class this is very rude for other students who are trying to learn and is a distraction in

class. Mobiles can be checked between classes not during. Same rules apply to spectators observing classes.PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING IN CLASS AND REHEARSALSNo photography or filming allowed during classes and rehearsals. We kindly ask you to respect the other students and teachers privacy and not photograph or film during classes and rehearsals. This time is our safe place to practise and experiment, and having it being filmed without asking a permission feels uncomfortable and it also preaches our copyright. We take class in action photos and only the ones that represent all the students and the class in positive, respectful way are shared on social media, you are welcome to share these posts.

SAFETYFor safety reasons students are not permitted to leave the building alone unless a teacher is notified. We prefer that students wait at reception for parents.PARENT PARTICIPATION WEEK We have scheduled two annual Participation Weeks when parents are invited to experience the class with their child, meaning you join in on all the class activities, not sit and watch it. To celebrate Mother’s Day in May, all mothers, grandmothers and aunties are invited to join their dancer’s class 4-9 May 2020. To celebrate Father’s Day in September, all fathers, grandfathers and uncles are invited to join their dancer’s class 31 Aug-5 Sep 2020. Other than these scheduled times, we ask that no spectators be in the class room as it can be distracting and unsettling for the dancers. Please use the viewing windows and TV provided or select one of our Introduction to Dance classes where spectators are invited in on weekly basis.OBSERVING CLASSES AND REHEARSALS Please follow the theatre etiquette; enthusiastic applause is encouraged; however, it is never appropriate to scream out a child’s name or yell in any way. When you come along to observe a class, please note that your dancer is excited to showcase their skills to you, they keep checking that you are watching and it is upsetting for them to see if you are doing something else.We ask that everyone remain seated during the entire class/rehearsal. Children should not bring handheld electronic games or other devices with sounds and/or lights that could be a distraction for other spectators and dancers. If you think child will have a hard time remaining seated during the class/rehearsal, please do not bring them along. Allowing children to run around or otherwise disrupt the class/rehearsal is not fair to other spectators, the dancers and the teacher. Parents who bring infants should quickly exit the class room if the infant begins to cry or create a distraction. The use of video or photography is strictly prohibited. It is important that you pass this policy on to your guests.
