When inMarch2016 theBoardofDirectorsof the InternationalCanoeFederation(ICF)awardedthe2020ICFJunior&U23CanoeSprintWorldChampionshipstoourcity,weBrandenburgersweredelighted.Weconsi-deritagreathonourtohostthishigh-caratinternationalsportingeventatourmodern,yettradition-steepednaturalregattacourseonBeetzseelake.TheawardingoftheworldchampionshipsreflectstheenormousesteemandrecognitionthattheBrandenburgregattateamenjoysintheinterna-tional canoeing family. Since the2008CanoeMarathonWorldCup, thevolunteerorganisersandassistantshavebeenmeticulouslypreparingforandsuccessfullystagingatopICForECAeventalmosteveryyear.Theex-periencegainedtherebyensuresthateverythingwillrunsmoothlyagain

whenthebestcanoeistsintheworldatjuniorandU23levelmeetagaininsummer2020.Iamconfi-dentthatthesportingandcosmopolitanBrandenburgpublicwillyetagainexperienceinternationalelitesportatthehighestlevel.

OnbehalfofallBrandenburgers, I invitetherepresentativesoftheworldgoverningbody,the ICF,andofthenationalcanoeingassociations,theathletes,coachesandassistantsandspectatorstothe2020Junior&U23CanoeSprintWorldChampionships.WearelookingforwardtothisgreatfestivalofsportandwishevennowtogiveourguestsfromallpartsoftheworldaverywarmwelcometoBrandenburganderHavel.

Wewillinvitetheworld’sbestjuniorandU23canoeathletesincanoesprinttobeourguestsinBrandenburganderHavel.

NineyearsafterthelastWorldChampionshipsofjuniorsandU23,heldbytheGermanCanoeFederation,thecityofBrandenburganderHa-velwillverywelcomethebestyoungsprintcanoeistsaroundtheworldagainashostofthisinternationalchampionshipsfrom16thto19thJuly2020.ThenaturalregattacourseofthelakeBeetzseeinBrandenburgattheHavelwillbethevenueforthishigh-levelcanoecompetitionforthesecondtimeafter2011.IncooperationwiththeorganizingteamofBrandenburgBeetzseewearelookingforwardtowelcomingthecanoefamilytothistitlecontests.

Inmycapacityasactingpresidentof theGermanCanoeFederation I’mpleasedtobeabletosaywelcometoalltheathletes,doctorsandcoachesaswellastoalltheofficialrepresentativesoftheInternationalCanoeFederation.

First,IwouldliketothanktheInternationalCanoeFederationforauthorizingustoarrangethisWorldchampionships.IalsothankthecityofBrandenburgattheHavel,thefederalstateofBrandenburgandthelocalorganizerswhosesupportwillenablesuchaninternationalexaltedevent.Finally,Iwouldliketoexpressmygratitudetothemultitudeofpromoters,supportersandsponsorswhichareallcon-tributedtheirsharetoenableustoorganizesuchprofessionalmatches.
