Workshop—TallFescueManagement–WhataretheChoices?CoordinatedbyAlanFranzluebbers,USDA-ARSTallfescueprovidesreliableforageduringspringandfallseasons,buthowforageismanagedtogetthemosteffectiveproductionfromforage-fedlivestockmaynotalwaysbemostobvious.Thisworkshopwillexploreperspectivesonhowtomanagetallfescuepasturesforproduction,soilhealthimprovement,ecosystemhealth,andeconomicoutcomes.

AmericanBreedingBirdSurveyhasrecordedanoveralldeclineof85percentfrom1966through2014,evengreaterinsomeregionstothepointthatsomestateshavedesignatedtheirpopulationextirpated.Thisworkshopwillprovideabriefbackgroundaboutthebobwhitedeclineandthelatestresearch-supportedmethodsforgrazingmanagementtomaintaingrassvigorandanimalperformancethroughsummerandrealworldexamplesandresultsofbobwhitemanagementusinggrazing.

Southhasbeenverylimited.Thisworkshopwillintroducebestmanagementpracticesandalternativesforsuccessfuluseofalfalfaintheregion,highlightrecentresearcheffortsfromland-grantuniversities,provideandin-deptheconomicdiscussionwithproductiondecisiontools,andgiveanindustryoutlookofwhat’snextwithalfalfaproduction.
