About Franconia Sculpture Park Franconia Sculpture Park is the pre-eminent, artist-centered sculpture park in the Midwest. Audience Reach In 2019, Franconia hosted a total of 128,889 visitors from rural Minnesota and beyond, in addition to 17,892 youth who engaged with our more than 60 yearly educational and public programs. Our popular Music @ Franconia Series attracts an annual audience of more than 5,000 community members of all ages to enjoy free music at the park, from local bluegrass to punk to hip hop bands. Our Annual Hot Iron Pour and Art and Artists Celebrations each draw an additional 2,000 community members per event. In addition to these longstanding Franconia events, we’ve introduced many new events and programs in 2020: 3-weeks of Youth Installation Summer Camps in July; monthly Art & Farmers Markets from May-October; a Summer Solstice Performance Festival on June 20th; the Franc n’ Stein/Dogtoberfest on October 17th; the outdoor summer Film @ Franco- nia series; and many more! Summer Solstice @ Franconia Saturday, June 20, 5pm-11pm Franconia is celebrating summer solstice with live music, performance art, tarot readings, film screenings and a community bonfire ritual. Nearly 20 performance artists from the around the world will premiere new, site-specific and audience participatory works at Franconia that link art and ecology and incorporate Franconia’s sculptures. Popular Minneapolis goth band Wax Lead will headline, and the event will feature a rare screening of renowned artist Kenneth Anger’s film in Franconia’s outdoor amphitheatre. Franconia Art & Farmers Markets 2020 is the inaugural year of the Franconia Art & Farmers Market – a fun and unique way to connect art, agriculture, and audiences in the idyllic setting of Franconia’s 43-acre outdoor museum and sculpture park. The first Sunday of each month, May-October from 10am-2pm, local farmers and artists will come together to provide a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, apothecary items, and handmade crafts to our visitors. Music @ Franconia Saturday, July 11, 2020, 2pm-6pm This Music @ Franconia highlights the best in new Americana, always a popular favorite at the park, featuring Matt Hannah, King Wilkie’s Dream, and Pleasure Horse. Saturday, August 22, 2020, 2pm-6pm This Music @ Franconia features the best new indie and surf-rock acts from Minnesota, featuring Half Tramp, Products, and Scrunchies. 24th Annual Art & Artists Celebration & Franconia Commons Grand Opening Saturday, September 26, 3pm-9pm This year’s Annual Art & Artists event promises to be the biggest event of the year. Celebrating the completion of nearly 40 new sculptures and the culmination of a successful year highlighting Art & Ecology, Franconia invites all of our 2020 artists-in-residence back to the park to connect with our audiences. In addition, September 26 marks the Grand Opening of Franconia Commons! After a successful 5-year capital campaign, Franconia is thrilled to add an additional 7,000 square feet of indoor community space to the park, complete with Visitor Center, Youth & Adult Education and Multipurpose Spaces, Gallery, Gift Shop, Café, Administrative Offices, and expansive accessible public restrooms. During this event, we will have a ribbon cutting ceremony with local officials and campaign donors, the opening of the “New Domestics” group exhibition in Franconia’s new indoor gallery space, and musical performances by Starcrossed, XOXOTECH, and Le Hearse. Film @ Franconia This monthly summer film series features free outdoor films at Franconia, highlighting the best in art cinema, past and present. All films start promptly at 9pm; parking is $5 with drinks/snacks available for purchase. Saturday, June 6 – Kusama – Infinity & Post-Infinity by Emotional.Store Saturday, July 18 – Fantastic Fungi & Fly Amanita by David Fenster Saturday, August 1 – Liquid Sky Saturday, September 5 – The Wicker Man (Director’s Cut) Franc ‘n’ Stein Saturday, October 17, 3pm-10pm Franconia Sculpture Park’s inaugural community event is a unique opportunity for visitors to sample food and beverages from local restaurants and breweries all within the unique setting of Franconia’s 43-acre outdoor museum. Attendees can visit different stations located throughout the park to sample local beers and sausages (francs), and even purchase handmade ceramics created by renowned St. Croix River Valley artists to drink from (steins). There will be a wide variety of family-friendly—and dog-friendly—art activities throughout the day, concluding with a bonfire, live music, and outdoor film screening. Franconia Open Ice Rink December 5, 2020 through February 28, 2020 Visit Franconia from December 5, 2020 through February 28, 2021 and enjoy outdoor ice skating in the park. This outdoor loop will feature a monumental glowing outdoor installation by New York-based artist Jason Peters, designed specifically for Franconia. FREE and open to the public from 10am-10pm. Skate rentals for $5 available 12pm-5pm only at Franconia Commons.
