Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
A warm May greeting to you and your family! Thank you for your support through prayers, your time, and financial resources during this last month and a half with the stay at home orders. I pray that you and your family are staying safe and finding ways to connect with others, even in the midst of this uncertain time. There are many things that I’m not sure about: when we can gather again in per-son for Worship, when we can have other church related activities in person, when we can go and visit people without the barrier of a window, screen door or the like.
Yet, I am certain, that God in Christ walks with us, even right now! The last Sun-day in May will be the celebration of Pentecost, when over 2,000 years ago, God gathered people from every nation in the known world and gave them the power to communicate with one another about the might deeds of God in their lives. The story in Acts 2, reminds us that God’s Holy Spirit is at work in ways that we might expect, but also in ways that surprise and confound us. The hymn, “God of Grace and God of Glory”, entered my thoughts, to me, a sign of God’s Holy Spirit at work. The first verse begins,
God of grace and God of glory, on your people pour your pow’r; crown your ancient church’s story; bring its bud to glorious flow’r.
After Jesus resurrection, the disciples, Jesus’ closest followers, are locked in a room because of fear. Their leader, teacher and Savior had been publicly cruci-fied and it had been three days! Jesus enters the room and says Peace be with you and then breathes on them! Eeeeeeew, gross! Some translations say breathe into them, reminding of the creation story when God breathed life into Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:7). On the one hand it might be gross to think of someone breath-ing on you! Yet this breath, the presence of God’s Holy Spirit, was a sign that Jesus was alive and through his breath, the disciples received life in Christ’s name, renewing and expanding God’s life giving presence to them and in them. It was a sort of pouring into them the very power and presence of God.
God continues to grant us His grace and glory, granting us glimpses of the Spirit of Christ, Jesus’ love, hope, and compassion in our lives, even in these days!
New life is springing up around us, more so in my neighbor’s yard, with their beau-tiful blooms and bushes, buds opening up to reveal their flowers! Only a few weeks ago, they still looked dormant. But now the flowers are starting to bloom, continuing to reveal their beauty.
God in Christ continues to do the same through us. Continues to walk alongside you, working and filling you with Christ’s presence, faith, hope, and love. As the hymn continues,
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.
There is so much uncertainty and so many things that we can’t control. And guess what, it’s okay to feel like that, our experience of the stress, strain, and worry during this time is normal. And God continues to intercede and meet us right where we are. We can offer our concerns and we can also pray that God grants us wisdom, courage, patience, persistence and strength as we venture for-ward in these days. God’s Holy Spirit is with and among us, even from a distance. I am grateful for you as we walk together as the people of Prince of Peace, cling-ing to the promises of Christ working in and through us, breathing and pouring life into us each day.
Christ’s peace, Pastor Joel

Greetings to all of you at Prince of Peace. Hopefully all of you are doing well during these unprecedented times. Historic times might be a better way of stating it. Not many of us can say that we have been through a pandemic, let alone the possibility of recession or worse depression in the months ahead. Our leaders locally and in Washington need our Prayers more than ever in the days ahead. We at Prince of Peace our doing well. Pastor Joel has done an excellent job bringing worship into our homes. Others have stepped up mowing the yard and in yard maintenance. Ami has been in the office every day. Good things are happening at Prince of Peace during this crisis. Perhaps by next month we will be able to meet again as a family. Yes, this has been a challenging time. Let us not forget that while most of us have been staying at home there are those who have had to be out there every day to serve the rest of us. A special thanks to those health care professionals, first responders, grocery clerks, transportation employees and many others. Next time you see one say thank you if you haven’t already done so.
Yours in Christ

STEWARDSHIP
My Stewardship Story Growing up in church I knew dad served on council, mom worked in the kitch-en, and both made me get up as a teenager to attend Sunday services after my Saturday night outings with friends. It wasn't until my late thirties, when I joined Prince of Peace, that I developed a curiosity about what stew-ardship really meant. So, I decided to become a council member. I wanted to understand the inner workings of the church. As I sat through my first few months of council meetings, I experienced an epiphany. WE are the light bill, the phone bill, the heating bill, salaries, and the toilet paper suppliers (OK, I just had to throw that in with the current state of affairs). While I always knew people in the church took care of the lawn, and provided fellowship, mu-sic, maintenance, and Christian education, I never realized WE are the fi-nances of the church as well. Of course, my parents always gave my siblings and me our dollar bills each Sunday for the offering, but I never fully under-stood what purpose giving money served. I just knew we gave money. As my stewardship has ebbed and flowed these many years at Prince of Peace (I have been on council, committees, and even had another epiphany one Sunday as I helped in the kitchen that I was now my mom!), my financial giving has remained steadfast. While stewardship means time, talents, and tithing, my journey's lesson has been that without the finances, a church weakens. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 8:12, Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it ea-gerly. Tithing is the hardy meat and potatoes of stewardship while our time and talents are the sweetness of dessert. Let us all sit at the table and en-joy a complete meal served with gladness.
In Christ,
Debra Trujillo-Gilbert
