THIS IS STUDENT LIFE AT UWINDSORIn our residence halls and restaurants, you’ll bond with new friends from around the world. Be sure to get involved and join student clubs and organizations. You’ll fit right in!

Our campus covers 125 acres and houses 47 buildings, including some pretty awesome, new environmentally-friendly ones on our main and downtown campuses. And over 50% of our campus is green space where you can hang with friends, do homework or just read a book.

You’ll be living in one of the coolest (although surprisingly warm) metropolitan areas in North America. The sister cities of Windsor and Detroit offer the best of both worlds – the charm, personal feel, and fabulous restaurants of a small city in Windsor with big city amenities such as major league sports, big name concerts, and entertainment in Detroit.

We’re here to make your UWindsor experience the best possible. The University offers dozens of support services, from study skills workshops to counselling to special needs accommodations.

Our campus sits on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibwa, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi. There are few places on earth that someone before us has not called home.

EDUCATIONA GREAT TIME TO BE A TEACHERA decline in the number of new teachers entering the job market and a gradual rise in retirements over the remainder of this decade should help improve teacher employment outcomes in the Province of Ontario, according to the Ontario College of Teachers.

Up the highway from Windsor, school boards in London have been hiring hundreds of teachers and support staff to keep up with classroom demands.

Across the river from Windsor, the Detroit Public Schools Community District claims it is currently 250 teachers short, while the American Federation of Teachers says each year 300,000 public school teachers are needed nationwide and that the shortage is growing.

In Canada, teacher shortages have been identified in Nova Scotia and British Columbia.

Internationally, the UK is in the middle of an acute teacher shortage and the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has issued statistics revealing that close to 69 million new teachers are needed to provide quality universal primary and secondary education by 2030.

GOVERNMENT-SPONSORED STUDENT LOANS AND GRANTSThe Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can make it easier for students and families to go to university. The program offers support for school through two kinds of funding:

• Grants: money you don’t have to pay back (conditions apply)• A student loan: money you need to repay after graduation

Funding is available for both full- and part-time postsecondary students, and is based on a number of factors, including your family income. Some students may get their tuition fully covered by OSAP.

For the loan portion, there are also programs to help you repay your student loan once you’re done school.

Both the Ontario and Canadian governments provide this money.

For more information visit: www.ontario.ca/osap

UWINDSOR STUDENT ACCESS GUARANTEE The Student Access Guarantee (SAG) is a partnership between the University of Windsor and the Government of Ontario. Under SAG, the University of Windsor ensures that qualified students receive enough non-repayable aid to cover their tuition, compulsory fees and books when these are above the usual range of costs covered by OSAP.

Visit: uwindsor.ca/awards/SAG

TIP: USE THE OSAP ESTIMATOR The OSAP Estimator can help you estimate how much OSAP funding for which you might be eligible. Apply for government student aid by March 31 to assist us with assessing your need-based eligibility for entrance awards and bursaries.

TIP: USE YOUR AEROPLAN MILES OR TD POINTS Convert Aeroplan® Miles and or TD Points to help you get your UWindsor education. Anyone can donate their points to you! We are excited to be a participating institution at higheredpoints.com
