Outing ChoicesOne outing to replace one day of classroom lesson

Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong Visual Arts CentreHK Visual Arts Centre is housed in a Grade I historic building called Cassels Block, in Hong Kong Park. The building was built in the 1900s and used as the married quarters for British army off icers. HK Visual Arts Centre off ers specialised equipment and exhibition space for local artists and enthusiasts to create, learn and research art. Students will experience a journey of inspiration and awaken the true artist within.

Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage and Arts This revitalisation project to restore the Central Police Station compound has resulted in three declared monuments—the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison being turned into Tai Kwun. This unique historical compound is now a centre of arts such as theatre, music, dance and fi lm. There are also engagement programmes and workshops where students can immerse themselves in an odyssey of learning and culture.

The New Territories

The Hong Kong Museum of HistoryEstablished in 1975, The Hong Kong Museum of History was split from the City Museum and Art Gallery as a standalone museum which preserves Hong Kong’s historical and cultural heritage. The museum is permanently housed next to the Hong Kong Science Museum - with the aim of engaging the public with the stories of Hong Kong and the world as a whole. This is a place where students will be inspired to go further and deeper into our culture and history.

Hong Kong Railway MuseumHong Kong Railway Museum is converted from the old Tai Po Market Railway Station and is now an open-air museum of local railway transportation. The exhibition gallery features the story of railways development in Hong Kong with updated content of the latest information in the fi eld. The museum is also an exhibition itself with the historic station building, coaches and train engines. The interactive experience will broaden students’ knowledge of the railways while gaining knowledge of railways network development in Hong Kong.

Tao Heung Museum of Food CultureTao Heung Museum of Food Culture is located in a revitalized industrial building in Fo Tan. It is one of the few museums run by non-government organisation which aims to introduce the history and modern food cultures of Hong Kong. The museum has a wide range of exhibition including herbs, food samples, cutlery, kitchen tools and equipment used by the local food industry in the past and in the present. These collective memories, passed on from the older generation to the new, will be a precious chance for students to learn more about the history of Hong Kong through the prism of food.

M+ PavilionM+ Pavilion is the temporary exhibition space for M+ exhibitions before the completion of M+ building, the new museum of visual culture scheduled to be completed in 2019. The focus of exhibitions in M+ Pavilion is on 20th and 21st Century art, design, architecture and moving image. As the unique space for artists and designers to stage small-scale exhibitions events upon the completion of M+ building, the M+ Pavilion will provide an invigorating and stimulating art experience for students, especially for those that are interested in modern art.

‘The Power Pack’ empowers students to tackle DSE. It looks at each paper in great details and offers the skills and the knowledge that DSE is set to challenge. Our school can choose its focus in order to cater for its students’ needs. Each paper will be covered by 3 days of 3-hour lessons. Listening will be shorter, it occupies 2 days of 3-hour lessons.

1. Society for Abandoned Animals

Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA) is a registered local charitable organization with the motto “Love Animal, Respect Life, No Killing or Abandoning”. SAA aims to rehome abandoned animals, off er assistance to pet owners and promote responsible pet ownership to the public. Visit to the SAA will give students a better understanding of the lives of abandoned animals and develop a correct attitude and sense of responsibility towards animals.

AFCD Lions Nature Education CentreLocated near Sai Kung Town, AFCD Lions Nature Education Centre provides a variety of exhibitions to promote nature education, nature conservation and scientifi c studies. The Centre comprises many informative and attractive zones and featured areas which off er students opportunities for both indoor and outdoor fi eld studies. With the establishment of the Hong Kong Global Geopark, a Geopark Visitor Centre has been opened to introduce the geological history of Hong Kong.

3. Hong Kong Wetland Park

Hong Kong Wetland Park is a world-class ecotourism park located in Tin Shui Wai. It serves as the ecological mitigation area for the wetlands lost due to the new town development. The Wetland Park is home to an impressive cast of wildlife and hosts regular themed exhibitions, all of which provides students with precious lessons on the importance of biodiversity, civilisation and conservation.

4. Lam Tsuen Lam Tsuen is a residential area since Southern Song dynasty and is famous for its wishing trees and its own version of the Tin Hau Temple. According to tradition, villagers would throw joss paper onto two trees and make wishes during festivals. Nowadays, people from all over Hong Kong still come to Lam Tsuen and make wishes during festivals. A visit to Lam Tsuen is not only an exciting sightseeing opportunity but also provides this generation of students with an introduction to local traditions.

5. Tai Fu Tai Mansion Tai Fu Tai Mansion is a declared monument restored in 1988 which built in the Qing dynasty as the residence of Man Chung-luen, the 21st generation ancestor of the Man clan. The mansion is a fi ne example of a traditional dwelling of the scholar-gentry class in southern China. Through the historic design of the building and its background, students will gain understanding into the life of the scholar-gentry class during the Qing dynasty – an important piece of local history.

6. In-depth exploration of a neighbourhoodStudents will explore a key neighbourhood in Hong Kong, such as Stanley, and To Kwa Wan. They will visit key monuments and museums (including Murray House in Stanley, House of To Kwa Wan Stories in To Kwa Wan) and engage with locals through interviews. They will need to capture the spirit of the neighbourhood through photography, videos and the written words.
