PARKING & WEATHER INFORMATION

PLEASE BE SAFE AND COURTEOUS —FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD OR BE REMOVED.

PARKING

Please be sure to arrive early as traffic and parking can take some time. Below is a list of fee-based garages that will be open the morning of the event. Palmer Events Center is the preferred and cheapest parking location. You must enter off Barton Springs Road, as Riverside Drive will be closed to traffic for the event.

If you received an event day parking pass ($1,000+ fundraised), it is only valid if you park in the Palmer Events Center parking garage.

PALMER EVENTS CENTER 900 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

CITY HALL 157 Guadalupe Street, Austin, TX 78701

ONE TEXAS CENTER 505 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

If you do not wish to pay for parking, we recommend riding your bike to the start (if you are local and within a reasonable distance), taking a rideshare such as RideAustin, Uber, or Lyft, or finding street parking downtown and riding your bike to the start (street parking is free on Sunday!). Please keep in mind that Riverside Drive, including parking options on Riverside Drive, will be closed and inaccessible to motor vehicle traffic until 5:00pm on event day.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

If there is inclement weather, the course director may delay the start up to one hour, and/or shorten the ride distances. Please continuously visit www.LIVESTRONGChallenge.org as we will announce any weather-related updates, if needed. Should weather conditions be deemed unsafe, we will be forced to cancel the event. The event would not be rescheduled and we would not be able to provide refunds. While this would be unfortunate, safety is our number one priority. We appreciate your understanding.

Since 1997, Over 8.6 million

survivors have been supported.

COURSE & RIDE INFORMATION

The LIVESTRONG Challenge could not take place without the support and coordination of local law enforcement, including Austin Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and Hays County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Texas Department of Transportation, Travis County, Hays County and the individual cities and towns along the route. Please obey the rules of the road and respect the communities we ride through during this event.

LIVESTRONG, High Five Events and local law enforcement reserve the right to change or alter the course at their discretion due to road construction, traffic patterns, natural disaster and any other circumstance that may threaten the overall safety of our riders and motorists.

Please review the Rider Etiquette & Safety page before the event.

TIME LIMITS & COURSE CLOSURES

The LIVESTRONG Challenge course will shut down at 4:00pm. There will be no exceptions to cutoff times. These cutoffs will be strictly enforced to remain in compliance with roadway re-opening per the City of Austin.

• Riders on the 65-mile and 100-mile course must reach mile 15 at the intersection of Main Street and FM 967 in Buda by 9:30am to stay on course. If later than 9:30am you will be redirected on to the 45-mile route.

• Riders on the 100-mile course must reach mile 35.6 at the crossing of FM 3237 and FM 150 by 10:30am to stay on course. If later than 10:30am, you will be redirected on to the 65-mile route.

• If you are still on course after 7.5 hours and are not on pace to finish in 8.5 hours, you will be politely asked by our event staff to allow a SAG vehicle to take you to a safe location near the finish line where you will be allowed to ride through the finish and enjoy the Post-Event Party activities.

• Due to the varying difficulty of the LIVESTRONG Challenge courses, and in an effort to maintain a high safety standard, all ride support will end 8.5 hours after starting (4:00pm).

• At 4:00pm the course will close and the finish line area will start to be broken down.

• Riverside Drive will re-open promptly at 5:00pm per the direction of the City of Austin.

Together, we’ve helped Over 700

YMCA locations offer the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Program.

SAFETY & RIDER ETIQUETTE

Below, you will find some general road riding etiquette rules that must be followed to create a safe environment for everyone involved.

Please review this information before the event.

FOLLOW THE RULES • WEAR A HELMET AT ALL TIMES.

• Follow all traffic laws an automobile driver would observe, which includes but is not limited to stopping at red lights and stop signs, and yielding to pedestrians. In some cases, a police officer patrolling an intersection will give riders the right away–in this case, it is okay to proceed with caution.

• DO NOT ride in a pack spread across the road and block other riders or motor traffic. The roads are not closed for the LIVESTRONG Challenge. You are expected to share the roads and follow all traffic laws.

• DO NOT cross double yellow lines, it is ILLEGAL to do so.

• Law enforcement, LIVESTRONG, and High Five Events reserve the right to remove any participant who is not following all traffic laws and safety requirements.

• Headphones, cell phones, radios and other similar devices are NOT permitted while riding.

SHARE THE ROAD—SINGLE FILE IS SAFEST The LIVESTRONG Challenge is by definition a ‘rules of the road’ ride, meaning the roads are open to traffic. Please do not endanger yourself and others by riding more than single file and inconveniencing the local citizens who allow us to come through their community. It is ILLEGAL to ride two abreast and impede traffic.

STAY TO THE RIGHT • Ride as far to the right as practical unless making a left-hand turn or avoiding hazards

in the road. If you must stop, do your best to move off the road when you stop.

• If you are riding as a team, once the mass of riders has started to thin out after the first few miles, please have your team ride orderly in single file or two abreast (without impeding traffic) and allow others to pass when needed. If your group needs to stop on the side of the road for an unplanned break–f lat tire, broken bike, etc., please move your whole group safely out of the traffic lane.

Attitude is everything.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND COURTEOUS —FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD OR BE REMOVED.

SAFETY & RIDER ETIQUETTE (CONTINUED)

SIGNAL Signal with your hands and/or voice so that everyone knows your intentions.

CALL OUT ANY CHANGE Call out “Slowing,” “On your left,” “On your right,” “Car up,” “Car back,” etc. Also, call out approaching hazards for those behind you such as “Pot hole,” “Tree limb,” etc.

DO NOT OVERLAP WHEELS Be cognizant of those around you and pay attention to the position of your front wheel vs. back wheel.

FOLLOW COURSE SIGNAGE The signage we place on all courses is there for your safety; follow the directions of these signs. For example, a “CAUTION” signs means slow down and focus on your surroundings.

USE CAUTION ON DESCENTS Watch for signage indicating dangerous descents and be ready to slowly apply the brakes if necessary. When descending and turning, make sure your inside leg is at the “12 o’clock” position, not “6 o’clock”. Please make sure you read the course maps, study the course profile and train appropriately. If possible and when safe, it is a good idea to pre-ride the course. What goes up must come down. With every good climb there is always a fast descent and the Challenge is no exception to this rule. Please be prepared, watch other riders around you and look out for signage and course marshals indicating a steep descent. When descending, it is always a good idea to have your hands on the brakes, just in case. Furthermore, when using the brakes, do not press on just one. Slowly press on both sides to ensure a safe slow down.

LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND If you are riding in a group and are separated at an intersection, as a matter of courtesy, you should soft pedal until the rest have rejoined. Talk with your teammates in advance of the ride. Plan what you are going to do: when someone gets a f lat or needs to stop, if someone crashes, is too tired. Having a team plan in place will help you make decisions quickly and keep your team moving on the road.

BE COURTEOUS • Be kind to your fellow riders, law enforcement, course support and

volunteers, public drivers, and neighborhoods along the route.

• The LIVESTRONG Challenge could not exist without on-course support from volunteers and law enforcement. Please take the time as you ride by to thank them for dedicating their time to the event.

Knowledge is power.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND COURTEOUS —FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD OR BE REMOVED.
