STANDING OUT IN THE SOCONThe Bucs hold a 14-2 record in conference play, good for second in the SoCon. The Blue and Gold are ranked top in the league in hitting percentage (.234), assists per set (12.3) and aces per set (1.7). ETSU is second in the SoCon in opp. hitting percentage (.180), kills per set (13.2) and blocks per set (2.15).

NOTESWHO LED THE BUCS?

FIRST YEAR HEAD COACH Benavia Jenkins is serving as the program’s fourth head coach in the last 20 years and the eighth overall. Throughout the program’s history, first-year head coaches combined for a record of 71-80.

JENKINS COLLEGE EXPERIENCE Jenkins at UF was an All-American middle blocker totalling over 1,000 kills and 600 blocks (most in program history when she left). As a Gator, her squad won four SEC titles and went to back-to-back Final Fours. Jenkins was inducted into the Florida Hall of Fame in 2017.

WHAT’S AT STAKE The Bucs are looking to reach the NCAA Tournament for the third striaght year and fourth time in program history. The Bucs went to the Big Dance in 2013, 2017 and 2018. They are looking to be the first SoCon team to go to the tourna-ment three straight years since College of Charleston did it from 2005-07.

CRAZY CUNNINGHAMCunningham led all freshman in kills per set with 3.57 and total aces with 37 to earn SoCon Freshman of the Year. The Knoxville native finished third in the conference in kills per set and is tied for the league-lead with .45 aces per set. Cunningham capped off the regular season with 293 kills on 799 swings for a .217 hitting percentage. Her 3.57 kills per set puts her ninth in Division I among the freshman class.

WE LOVE THE ROAD The Bucs were one of two teams in Division I to not hold a home contest until Oct. 11. Prior to the first home match of the season, the Blue and Gold were 13-3, a SoCon best.

FIVE SET FRENZY The Bucs have played eight five-set matches this season and they are 5-3 in those contests. ETSU defeated Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Samford, Wof-ford and Chattanooga in five. The Bucs fell to Coastal Carolina, UAB and Furman.

Jenkins recorded her first collegiate head coaching victory with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State University on Aug. 30, 2019. She is the second coach

During her time at USF, Jenkins made an immediate impact coaching the middle blockers and outside hitters. Jenkins saw outside hitter Jac’cara Walker and middle blocker Clara Payne receive All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2018. Walker totaled 375 kills, which ranked third among AAC outside hitters, and also recorded 14 double-doubles. Payne, who finished her career fifth all-time in USF history in block assists (360) and eighth in hitting percentage (.282), posted 280 kills, 115 blocks and 29 service aces this past season.

As a team, USF won 20 matches in 2018, and made its first postseason appearance since 2002. The 20 wins were also the most by a Bulls team in over 15 years. The 2018 squad ranked third in the conference in blocks and fourth in hitting percentage, while Jaeden Brown finished the year ranked 32nd nationally in total blocks with 146.

In her first season at USF, the Bulls posted an eight-win improvement from the previous year as they totaled 19 victories. USF ranked in the top-5 among conference leaders in hitting percentage, with middle blocker Joli Holland (.337) and Payne (.321) both ranking in the top-10 in the statistical category. Over her career, Holland ranked fifth all-time in program history with a .302 attack percentage.

Prior to USF, Jenkins spent the 2015 season at Coastal Carolina where the Chanticleers went 29-5 overall, 14-0 in the Big South and went to the NCAA Tournament. Coastal Carolina won 18 straight matches during the year, while the Chanticleers boasted the ninth-best hitting percentage in the country. Jenkins made an impact on the Coastal Carolina hitters as Eszter Nagy ranked 12th nationally with a .417 hitting percentage and Annayka Legros finished 55th with a .364 clip. Both Nagy and Legros earned all-Big South honors, while Jenkins also saw Leah Hardeman earn Big South Player of the Year and AVCA All-Region accolades.

ETSU volleyball head coach Benavia Jenkins, announced the hiring of assis-tant coach/recruiting coordinator Giovanny Delevry to the Buccaneer staff.

Delevry has coached at all levels, including two Division I programs, one Division II program, and at the JUCO level.

Delevry joins the ETSU staff after serving a year as an assistant coach at Marshall University. During his stint at Marshall, Delevry helped Marshall defeat ACC opponent Georgia Tech at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash. As the middle blocker coach in charge of team blocking schemes, he played an active role in Lauren Mattmuller recording a career high in kills, blocks, digs, aces, and assists in her final season. He coordinated the logistics for Herd camps and clinics, and also has experience using VolleyMetrics and opponent scouting.

Prior to Marshall, Delevry spent a year at Winthrop University, where he served as the passing and defensive coach. He was in charge of developing and coordinating block and floor defense, solidifying serve receive and getting passers passing to their strength. He was also in charge of clinics and opponent scouting. Delevry helped Winthrop to a Big South Con-ference All-Tournament appearance and three Big South All-Conference Regular Season Honors.

Before joining Winthrop, Delevry spent three years as an assistant coach of Florida Institute of Technology. He coached the setters, middle blockers, and pin hitters. Delevry was the recruiting coordinator and camp coordi-nator. Under his guidance, Florida Tech had an All-SSC Honorable Mention Senior middle blocker and a Freshman middle blocker that were named to the All-Newcomer Team. Florida Tech defeated #17 ranked Florida South-ern in 2015.

Delevry began his volleyball coaching career in 2010 at Indian River State College, working with all athletes to develop skills, as well as strength and conditioning. He started the programs’ first social media accounts and han-dled the recruiting efforts. He led his team to 24 All-Conference selections, three All-State selections, and one All-American, which was the first in 13 years. Indian River State also had two state appearances in four years and a 21-win season in their first year, sending five players to play at the Division I level.

Delevry has been a head coach for 11 years between Club and High Performance. Prior to coaching in the NCAA, Delevry worked privately with several Division I players, one of which led the nation in blocking during her time at the University of Louisville, three professional players, and one national team player.

Delevry graduated in May 2015 from Warner University with a degree in Business Administration.

Pile comes to the Bucs after six years of coaching experience at the Division III level. He served as the assistant coach at Muhlen-berg College from 2013-14 and the head coach at Dickenson College from 2015-18. Pile became the first full-time head coach in Dickenson’s program history in 2016.

At Dickenson, Pile helped his athletes make their way into the record books with two players setting a single-season and ca-reer records in digs. Throughout his tenure, the Red Devils were represented in the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as All-Academic Team.

At Muhlenberg, he helped the Mules to an overall record of 45-20 and 16-4 in the Centennial Conference during his two seasons. Pile helped guide six All-Conference selections and the 2013 conference 2013 Rookie of the Year.

Pile graduated from Limestone (S.C.) College in 2013 where he played four seasons as a setter and right-side hitter for the Saints’ men’s volleyball team. He currently is second in their program history with 2543 career assists and 521 career digs.

Pile served as team captain for the Saints all four years and helped them reach their first-ever conference championship match during his senior season (2013).

In addition to coaching, Pile will be pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Management at ETSU.
