Development Planning
Highlights
Approval of Gordon Food Services, 200 Salem Rd. N., a 31,966 m2 building divided into 29,533 m2 of warehouse space, 123 m2 of warehouse mezzanine space, and 2,310 m2 of related office space, along with 156 parking spaces, 34 loading spaces, 12 truck spaces, 46 trailer parking spaces and 40 tractor parking spaces.
Occupancy within Medallion Building B has been granted up to the 16th floor. Permission for full occupancy is anticipated in Spring 2020.
Building permits for Medallion Building C & D, in Phase 2, are currently under review. Construction activity is expected to commence over the Spring/Summer of 2020.

• In 2019, a total of 14,011 building inspection relatedprocesses were conducted. This number does notinclude the inspection of fire safety systems that werecarried out by staff of Ajax Fire and Emergency Servicesunder the authority of the Ontario Building Code.
• Building Approvals conducts a minimum of13 mandatory inspections during the construction ofeach new home built in Ajax. In the case of inspectionsfor non-residential development, multi-unit residentialbuilding, sign demolitions, alterations, other mandatoryinspections are added or substituted.

EngineeringStormwater Management Pond RehabilitationThe Town has successfully completed all projects funded by a grant received through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. This grant included funding for a total of 8 projects related to stormwater management, with a deadline of completion by March 31, 2020.
The following projects received funding through the Grant and are now complete:

Restoration of Erosion Damage along the Waterfront
In addition to reaching the Grant milestone, the Town also took initiative in restoring erosion damage along the waterfront. This involved adding shoreline protection and reinforcement to the Storm Sewer Outfall at Lions Point which included; an armour stone retaining wall, sub-drain system and additional natural stone riprap.
Paradise Park/Beach also underwent a restoration project in partnership with the TRCA to restore the wetland. This was created to not only provide stormwater volume management and quality control, but a new experience for park users and the natural environment.
Community Events – Environmental AwarenessStaff organized many community events and programs in partnership with TRCA in order to continue environmental awareness among Ajax residents.

Integrated Transportation Master PlanThe ITMP is a multi-modal planning tool which seeks to continue improving walking, cycling and motorized transportation in the Town.
The plan is intended to help the Town address projected growth, align with Provincial and Regional policies, enhance community benefits, respond to new transportation trends, and encourage public engagement and participation in decision-making.

School Zone Management PlanA review of existing crossing guard locations was undertaken, including development of a warrant system for the management and deployment
of crossing guards at various crossings near schools in the Town of Ajax. This warrant will be used to assess proposed crossing locations and review existing locations when necessary.

Traffic Calming Warrant UpdateThe Town is updating the traffic calming warrant which incorporates the latest and best practices in traffic calming to address traffic complaints relating to excessive speeding, traffic infiltration and collision frequency.
Town staff recently completed a pilot program to test the new traffic calming measure which included installing flexible bollards on Ravenscroft Road. The results of the pilot will be incorporated into the final warrant where bollards are expected to be introduced as a new traffic calming measure that will be used around the Town!
Upcoming Public Open House:There will be a Public Open House on the proposed Traffic Calming Warrant Update in March 2020.
Active and Safe Routes to School / School Travel Planning ProgramsTransportation staff led two exciting programs to promote walking and rolling to school: Active and Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) and School Travel Planning (STP).
2019 Highlights:
• Over 100 Vimy Ridge PS students and staff walked fromRotary Park to the school despite the raining weatherin September, reducing 50 cars off the road as well asenergy emissions.
• Lester B Pearson PS students participated in a SpiritWalk to Westney Heights PS where they did a cheer-off against their neighbouring school. The schoolschallenged each other to walk and roll to school and toraise money for their Thanksgiving drives!
#GetAjaxMoving Campaign
The #GetAjaxMoving Campaign promotes and equips residents with tools and information for using sustainable transportation including public transit, walking, cycling, carpooling, and telecommuting.
Transportation staff have organized several events in 2019:
• Winter Walk Day (also part of ASRTS)• Winterfest• Bike to School Week/Bike Month (also part of ASRTS)• Trailfest• Walktober (also part of ASRTS)• Pumpkinville• Welcome Centre Picnic

Business Events / Major Projects2019 was a busy year for business and networking!
• The Ajax Business Network was greeted by the DurhamCollege AI/Hub for an Artificial Intelligence 101 session.The team from AI/Hub continued further connectionwith the Town of Ajax. Events included: AI for Business,AI for Youth, AI for Seniors, AI and Healthcare
• Launch of the exciting newInnovation Village project onSeptember 16, 2019.ajax.ca/innovationvillage
• Technology events,including: #TechTalkDC (100 healthcare and techprofessionals), Cyber Security Training (CTIA) and thelaunch of ICE-VR
• Ajax hosted the Global Cyberlympics Awards. TheGlobal Cyberlympics is held annually across the globe,and 2019 was the first time in Canada. Ajax proudlyhosted over 250 people from all over the world at theAjax Hilton Garden Inn and the brand new AudleyBanquet/Community Hall.
Business Attraction, Retention and Marketing Outreach
• Staff participated in various events specific to BusinessAttraction, Retention and Marketing Outreach. Theseevents were: Ajax Business Expo, Cyber SecurityAwareness Month and Global Cyberlympics Awards
