Rationale : The three decade old SHG movement, a program for organizing the women and the deprived to help them with access to banking conceived in the early 90’s was perceived to be a movement towards financial inclusion wherein the poor people from a homogeneous background join together for taking up financial transactions resulting in investment in the livelihood sector. It was later realized that this movement has a potential to reach out to the poor people from rural areas for delivery of various government services and subsidies. The Government of India flagship programmes, Swarna Jayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) and the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) have exclusively worked on the SHG module for delivery of the government subsidies and services marked for livelihood creation. The movement has also got the potential for conveying the non-financial products and implementing various programs like health, education, insurance and empowerment etc. However not many institutions have applied the SHG movement for these purposes which may ultimately transform the society. SKDRDP which has worked on SHG movement for nearly three decades has developed core competence in promotion, handholding and linking the SHGs to banks for financial services. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) : The United Nations department of economy and social affairs has formulated 17 sustainable development goals to transform our world by 2030. The SDG goals include no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequality, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action among others. These goals are being pursued by almost every government in the globe. The SHG movement, if implemented true to the ideals can indeed help the government to realize the SDGs. Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project ® (SKDRDP) working in this sphere since 1982 has demonstrated the strengths of the SHG movement in implementing the SDGs. Having worked exclusively on SHG platform; SKDRDP has implemented many programmes which have impacted the SDGs.

SKDRDP International conference:

In this background SKDRDP and its partner institutions have come forward to hold an international conference for the

benefit of various sectors involved in poverty alleviation and rural development.

The conference is scheduled between 30th October and 2nd November 2019 at The Clarks Exotica Spa and Resort,

Bangalore with a preconference, field visit and inauguration scheduled on the 30th October 2019, conference on

31st October 2019 and 1st November 2019. It will be followed up with a post conference deep dive discussion on the

2nd November 2019.

Components of the conference :

1. One day field exposure on modules of development on 30th October 2019.

2. Two day formal conference involving international sector specialists dealing on myriad of issues ranging from SHG

movement in the forefront of transformation to the digitization and bank linkage on the one hand to mindset change

human resource and the benefit of the movements on the other hand spread in 15 sessions including break away side

events.

3. Last day deep dive discussion on chosen modules for implementation with sector specialists.

4. An opportunity to meet the success stories in person.

5. Exhibition of products from various stakeholders.

6. An opportunity to have a glimpse of the Indian culture through cultural programmes scheduled in the evening.

2. The NGOs will get the benefit of state of the art technology developed by SKDRDP for SHG operations management. It includes specialized softwares, hardware, the MIS.

3. An opportunity to meet various stakeholders including government of India officials, banks, insurance companies, state departments, technology service providers, people representatives and vision the participating institutions future programmes.

4. Clearer understanding of complicated issues like livelihood and energy, poverty alleviation and deaddiction, water sanitation and healthy living, housing finance at the grass route, promotion of farmer centric self help groups.
