MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the 2018 Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show It’s with great anticipation that we welcome Sarah Crowe as our Chair of Judges. Sarah’s extensive judging experience coupling with her in-depth knowledge of the Hunter and her award winning winemaking skills will bring a new dynamic approach. As with each year, our committee continues to focus on setting high standards with the aim of achieving our goal of ‘presenting a credible wine show that assesses the quality and enhances the reputation of Hunter Valley Wines’. We are now venturing into our third year of our partnership with AWRI and the Show Runner software. It’s extremely pleasing to see how a program first piloted at our show has developed into the leading fully integrated show management software. Thank you to our valued sponsors and volunteers, without your continued support we would not be able to facilitate the Clear Image Hunter Valley Wine Show. Again, we encourage all members of the wine community to put your wines up to be judged against, and by, your peers.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF JUDGES

It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to sit as Chair of Judges at the Hunter Valley Wine Show; one of Australia’s most respected Regional Wine Shows proudly in its 45th year. The importance of this show to the region and its producers is not lost on me, having so recently being deeply embedded within it. I am and always will be proud when reading reviews about Hunter Valley wine or seeing Hunter Valley wine on a wine list, particularly when overseas. A small Australian wine region holding its own on the International stage. The wines from the Hunter Valley capture the hearts and minds of those lucky enough to be exposed to them. The collaboration within the Hunter wine community in the pursuit of excellence in both grape growing and winemaking is to my mind unparalleled and something to be supremely proud of. A region with a long history, unique wines and wine styles has a lot to live up to and I know you are up to the challenge. The Australian Wine Show System is another tool you can use as an auditing process, a self-check and sometimes a navel gazing exercise. In its simplest form, it is designed to help you, the exhibitor in your pursuit of excellence. The judging panel we have assembled this year will honour and respect your history, the wines and their style while being open minded about current consumer behaviours and trends. Best of all, they will have an opportunity to understand the region and then spread the good word. I look forward to teasing out the best examples of Hunter Valley wine entered in this year’s show and celebrating those wines with you all.

14. The Hunter Valley Wine Show Inc. reserves the right to purchase at wholesale prices up to five cases of any currently available wine for promotional purposes.

16. Further wine samples may be required and/or inspected by the Hunter Valley Wine Show

Inc, or its nominees, for origin, quantitative and comparative analysis.

(b) In the event of any discrepancy disclosed by such inspection the Committee may determine the penalty applicable pursuant to Regulation 25.

marketing of other blends if the exhibitor can demonstrate that such other blends have identical source materials blended in identical proportions and sensory and chemical characteristics within reasonable tolerances.

18. In publicising awards granted by the Show, exhibitors are obliged to adhere to the

following procedure: - (a) Medal Awards received by an individual wine will bear the name 2018 Clear Image

Hunter Valley Wine Show, the class description and as a general rule, shall only be applied to wines bearing the name under which the exhibit was entered. However, in recognition that a wine could be entered in a show before a wine has been finally allocated to a Brand, portability of an award so that it can stay with the wine that won it, shall be permitted providing other regulations allow. See sample provided by Clear Image on the outside of the back cover.

(b) Awards, other than medals, received by an exhibitor (eg “Winemaker of the Year”, “Most Successful Exhibitor” etc) shall not be used to suggest an individual wine has received any particular distinction. These awards will not be represented on the bottle in the form of a medal.

(c) Special regulations apply to the Iain Riggs Wine of Provenance award. The publicity of these awards needs to be very clear as to the wine (vineyard or “name”) and the year that it was awarded. It is not acceptable to imply that the whole wine company or brand won the award; it is specific to the vineyard or “name”. The use of the award in all promotion must include Clear Image and the logo that has been supplied by the Wine Show.

19. Medals may be awarded to entries in Classes 1 to 31 inclusive and classes 34 and 35,

subject to the entry being bottled wine at the time of delivery. Entries in Classes 1 to 7 inclusive if unbottled at the time of delivery will be judged but cannot receive any awards or points. Award Certificates will be available for all award-winning wines on request. No unbottled entry is eligible for an award.

20. All exhibits become the property of the Hunter Valley Wine Show Inc. 21. The decision of the judges and committee shall be accepted as final and binding, provided

entries comply with Regulations. 22. No entry will be accepted from any person, persons or company disqualified by this or

any other similar Show Committee during the period of such disqualification. Should such an entry be accepted, it shall, when so discovered, be deemed void and the entry fee and exhibit may be forfeited.
