GENERAL ENGLISHIntake Every Monday
The General English course is designed to improve students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Pronunciation and grammar are also learnt and the course is carefully balanced to cover interesting and interactive topics. Our English lessons are engaging, dynamic and exciting as our teachers are highly experienced and love helping their students improve their English. In General English students:
- Learn new vocabulary specific to different topics- Increase confidence with role plays- Attend excursions and field trips in Melbourne- Learn about Australian culture and other foreign cultures- Learn common grammar errors and how to fix them- Have weekly assessments and receive ongoing feedback- Learn with group work and class activities- Improve intonation and pronunciation

The EAP/IELTS Exam Preparation course is perfect if you want to study for a degree, advanced diploma/diploma or sit the IELTS test. The course covers all the essential academic skills to be successful in the IELTS test and also covers skills such as note taking, paraphrasing and presenting oral presentations, which are vital for tertiary studies. Even if your English is already good enough for university, an EAP/IELTS course can help you understand how to do assignments/assessments even better and make your university studies easier. In this course students:
- Take weekly practice IELTS tests and get personalized feedback- Improve paragraph writing skills- Have “one-on-one” practice IELTS speaking tests with teachers- Understand sentence structure and essay structure- Improve writing and reading speed- Increase skimming and scanning skills- Listen to detailed lectures and take notes- Visit libraries and learn how to find books- Read journal and newspaper articles

Active Conversation in English (ACE) is an exciting new English course, with a creative and unique approach to learning. ACE focuses on your speaking and listening skills with fun and active English lessons. Your confidence will increase as you participate in:
- Acting and role plays - Hosting events and volunteering- Oral presentations and sales pitches for products- Presenting book and movie reviews- Pronunciation activities and singing- Team work on projects- Practicing phone calls and creating film clips- Attending practice/business meetings- Conducting interviews and surveys

3 Weeks of barista working experience
at local cafés.
*For Universal English students who have completed the Barista Master Course.
The Barista Master Course is a great combination of theory and practice. The theory provided equipped me with the background knowledge to achieve excellent coffee drinks and during my practice I was able to make many different types of coffee behind the espresso machine. This enabled me to go far beyond the basics and continue learning with confidence! The staff and teachers at Universal English are very kind and experienced.

- Learn the “A – Z” of everything a Barista must know- Attend 1 hour daily classes with our Barista expert teacher- Gain 10-12 hours work experience at Universal Café every week- Visit a local coffee roaster and see what really happens- Discover the history of coffee, coffee types and bean types- Master latte art and learn iced coffee drinks- Write your resume and practice for a job interview- Understand different types of grinders and espresso machines- Learn how to clean and maintain espresso machines
