The DUPAGE DISCOVERY CAMP is ready to kick off a new summer program!We are happy to present our 2018 Summer Camp Program Guide. We have exciting new camps and new field trips for the children to enjoy this summer. Our experienced, carefully selected, and well-trained staff have diverse backgrounds working with children. They bring their talents and enthusiasm to connect with each child’s unique personality and interests.

MEET OUR LEAD TEACHERS FOR SUMMER!Adam Darlage: Adam is our Upper Elementary teacher and holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago. Adam brings his love of history, cultures, and languages to his students each day. He enjoys playing sports with his students and makes each day an exciting day of learning.Prabha Rajan: Prabha is an assistant in our Preschool (3-6 years) program. She enjoys teaching arts and craftsthroughout the year at our school and is constantly creating new projects based on our curriculum.Robin Azarela: Robin is our teacher assistant in Lower Elementary throughout the year. She will be teaching many camps including Garden Art, Inside the Rainforest, and more.Chris Styles: Chris is a teacher in our Preschool (3-6 years) program. Chris enjoys teaching with a hands on approach to creating materials and bringing in real life teaching experiences to her students.Nelly Chatterjee: Nelly has taught for 22 years at our school, which shows her passion to teach and her dedication to her students. Nelly will be teaching some of the Preschool (3-6 years) classes during the summer. Aileen Valencia: Aileen has been teaching for 20 years at our school. Her understanding of the Montessori approach shows in her patience and dedication to each student in her classroom. Aileen will be teaching the Preschool (3-6 years) classes during the summer months.Maha Arakoni: Maha is a teacher in our Preschool (3-6 years) program and will be teaching in the classroom and several camps. Maha has been with us as a parent, teaching intern, and a teacher. She is a dedicated teacher whose love of children guides her in the classroom. Lynn Griffin: Lynn is a teacher in our Preschool (3-6 years) program. She is essential in creating and coordinating the Summer Program and Camps we offer.Chris Dyslin: Chris teaches music for all ages during our regular school year and is a certified Music Teacher. She is well versed in everything from finger play with our younger students to Broadway musicals with our older students.Ken Diehl: Ken is a retired high school science teacher and has performed demonstrations with his students at the Sci-Tech Museum in Aurora. Ken will be teaching the Kitchen Science Camp this summer.

CL 101: Class - Calling All Explorers!

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

Welcome all adventurers! We have arrived at an undiscovered land. We will traverse our beautiful outside space that leads to a forest preserve. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engagein social interactions, and develop friendships.

CMP 102: Soccer

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Soccer is a great way for campers to get outside and be active while learning valuable skills which help with coordination, team-work, and self-con�idence. Work with your team, be �ierce, and take your energy to the �ield!

CL 201: Class - Happily Ever After

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

In-House Field Trip: Storyteller

Gather around and listen to some fantastic, classic stories. Students will travel to distant lands and meet heroes and heroines, suspicious characters, and larger than life creatures. They will also create their very own fairytale. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

CMP 202: Wolves, Coyotes, and Bears

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport

Come join us as we take an in-depth study of animals found in and around the Midwest. We will discuss where these animals live, if they live in groups, what their food sources are, and how we as explorers can track them. The highlight of this week will be a trip to Big Run Wolf Ranch where our campers will meet wolves, coyotes, and bears to name a few!

CMP 203: Secret Garden

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Morton Arboretum in Lisle

Summer begins by exploring the garden through colors and patterns. Campers will discover many different types of gardens and create art projects using different plants from their observations. They will also work together to build their very own unique fairy garden.

CL 301: Class - Gone Batty

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

In-House Field Trip: Incredible Bats

Summer is a great time to stay up late and see all the magni�icent animals that come out after dark! Students will learn about our nocturnal friends and �ind out about their habitats, food sources, and how they survive in a world of darkness. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

CMP 302: Big Bang Science

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 3-6

Field Trip: SciTech Museum in Aurora

The universe came into being with a big bang. We will explore the mystery of reactions through multiple science experiments and record the results and observations. We will end our week with a trip to the SciTech Museum.

CMP 303: There’s a Cookie On My Wookiee

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: SciTech Museum in Aurora

May the force be with you! Dive into the vast world of Star Wars in this fantastical space-centric camp. Campers will get creative and craft many Star Wars themed projects including cookies, ships, and character paintings.

CL 401: Class - Beach Party

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

Field Trip: Splash Park in Naperville

The beach isn’t just a place to kick back and relax. There’s so much life dwelling underwater and on the shore. We will discover what plants and animals live in the ocean, how tides and waves function, and work with sand. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in socialinteractions, and develop friendships.

CMP 402: Picture This

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Splash Park in Naperville

It’s time to dress up and snap a sel�ie. Campers will learn the basics of camera use as well as a brief history on the origin of photography. Younger students will learn how to operate a camera and successfully take pictures while learning about layout and composition. For a little extra summer fun, the camp will join the Beach Party class on their �ield trip.

CMP 403: Training Day

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Lazer Tag in Naperville

Ten-hut! Strap on your sneakers and make sure those laces are tied tight. Campers will gain and use energy by climbing, ducking, and diving in this sports camp. We will turn the school soccer �ield it into our very own obstacle course. We will work on team building by using our minds and bodies.

CL 501: Class - Alphabet Soup

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

In-House Field Trip: Sticky Fingers Cooking

Students learn to take measurements, use basic cooking skills, and make easy snacks. They will also discover the importance of balanced meals and how it affects their bodies and minds as they grow. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

CMP 502: Little Foodies

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

In-House Field Trip: Sticky Fingers Cooking

Do you know your food groups? How many servings of fruit or grains should you eat a day? Campers will learn about the different foods in each nutritional grouping and create art out of food. They will also get a chance to make some of their favorite foods and enjoy eating them.

CMP 503: Little Detectives

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

In-House Field Trip: Naperville Police

Innocent or Guilty? One team of campers will get to create a crime scene while the other team will need to solve it. They will learn the different types of tools and science used to help �ind and detect clues. Will the suspects get away or will the detectives crack the case?

CL 601: Class - Life On the Farm

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

Although farm life can be tough, it’s also very rewarding and fun! There are many animals to be found on a farm and a lot of work goes into taking care of them. Students will learn more about the important, daily jobs needed to run a farm and meet some of the residents. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

CMP 602: Dance Around the World

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

One tradition that is found in all parts of the world is dancing. In this camp, we will study different traditional dances from around the world. The campers will not only learn how to move and groove, but also the history and meaning of each country’s dance.

CMP 603: Art Explosion

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Bring your colorful, imaginative, and creative side to the table! This camp explores art with color, shapes, and design. Kids will create splatter art, squish painting, learn about color mixing, and have more hands-onexperiences.

CMP 902: Fly Like an Eagle

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn

Students will learn about the amazing life of birds with a focus on birds of prey. They will learn how they hunt, where they live, their wing spans, speed, and the types of avian hunters we �ind in our area. Campers will be able to get close and personal with some of these birds during a visit to a wildlife center.

CMP 903: Catch a Rising Star

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn

It’s time to grab a mic and shine on the stage! Each student will get a chanceto sing their favorite songs in front of their peers. Muster up the courage to sing alone, belt out a duet with a friend, or get the whole group to sing together. Fora little extra summer fun, the camp will join the other groups on a �ield trip.

CL 901: Class - Rockin’ Robin

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

Field Trip: Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn

Many of us have woken up to the sounds of tweets and chirps bright and early in the morning. Aside from being natural alarm clocks, our friendly backyard birds have busy and interesting lives. We will learn about the different species and habits of birds found by our homes. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

CL 1001: Class - Mad Science!

Hours: 9am - 4pm Ages: 3-6

In-House Science Experiments with Ken the Science Guy

The classroom will be taken over by our little mad scientists! They will conduct different experiments that may have immediate results or reactions that happen over a longer period of time. They will use plants and other materials found in the workshop in their experiments. Students will enjoy a morning recess and have time to engage in social interactions and develop friendships.

CMP 1002: Hockey

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

Field Trip: All Seasons Ice Rink in Naperville

Campers will learn the skills, positions, and equipment speci�ic to street hockey. They will play on a paved surface without skates and use a ball at various sizes instead of a puck. The students will get to try their hand at both offense and defense, improve on their teamwork skills, and be active.

CMP 1003: Kitchen Science

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 4-6

In-House Science Experiments with Ken the Science Guy

Be a molecular gastronomist in the DMS lab with hands-onexperiments and creative concoctions. Scienti�ic concepts are really going to stick as you learn basic principles and watch them come alive right before your eyes.

EL 101: Class - Superheroes

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 5-14

The traditional Montessori classroom meets Superheroes this week, as students learn the art of storyboarding and the basics of narrative storytelling. Students will create their own superheroes and tell of their epic adventures against evildoers throughout the galaxy. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

EL 102: Soccer

Hours: 1pm - 4pm Ages: 5-14

This is a great way for campers to get outside and be active while learning valuable skills which help with coordination, teamwork, and self-con�idence. Work with your team, be �ierce, and take your energy to the �ield!

EL 201: Class - Mother Nature

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 5-14

Field Trip: Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport

Students will have discussions and experiments about biomes and the cycle of life on land, in the air, and in the sea. They will also look at various ways where we can preserve the Earth we live on. Students will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

EL 202: Howl at the Moon

Hours: 1pm - 4pm Ages: 5-14

Field Trip: Big Run Wolf Ranch in Lockport

How can you tell the difference between a wolf or a coyote howling? Why do they howl? Are coyotes and wolves social? In this camp, we will take an in- depth study of wolves and coyotes along with other predators found in the midwestern states. Campers will be able to �ind the answers with the residents of the Big Run Wolf Ranch.

EL 203: Keep Calm and Make Art

Hours: 1pm - 4pm Ages: 5-14

Field Trip: Morton Arboretum in Lisle

It’s open studio! Bring your favorite art tools and get crazy creating. Campers will explore different techniques and learn how to use new tools they may not have seen before. They will get to try their hand at making scultpures, jewelry, papercrafts, sketches, and more. For a little extra summer fun, the campers will stretch their legson a �ield trip.

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 5-14

In-House Field Trip: Magician Gary Kantor

Ever wanted to be a wizard or a witch and cast magic spells? Now you can be! Students will be sorted into different houses, create their own wands, and learn how to mix potions. They will enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

EL 701: Class - Journey Through the Biomes

Hours: 9am - 12pm Ages: 5-14

In-House Field Trip: Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures

The Earth is a big umbrella that houses many different environments and climates. Students will learn about the types of animals that live in each biome and get to research and re-create an environment of their choosing. They will also enjoy a morning recess, have time to engage in social interactions, and develop friendships.

This camp is all about Legos, Legos, and more Legos! Students will be challenged every day with building a tower, simple machines, or constructing race cars for use with the ramps we will create for them. The only limit with Legos is one’s imagination!

Field Trip: Legoland in Schaumburg

Will you battle for light or join the dark side? Campers will explore the Star Wars universe and lore. They will create their own themed stories, learn about our galaxy and how similar it is to space in Star Wars, and have fun with some very familiar characters. Campers explore the myths of Egypt with an emphasis on different deities through interactive projects, creative writing, and storytelling. Students will have an opportunity to explore myths of their own choosing as well. They will also learn about Egypt’s rich and ancient history.
