1. About Wenzhou-Kean University
Wenzhou-Kean in Zhejiang Province, China, has now reached the end of its seventh year of full
operation. Student numbers have grown from a class of 205 in Fall 2012 to 2159 students in spring
2019. Wenzhou-Kean had its first commencement in May 2016 with over 180 students graduated.
In May 2017, over 200 students graduated at its second commencement in Wenzhou, China. In
June 2018, more than 380 students graduated at its third commencement in Wenzhou. The student
body is currently comprised mostly of Chinese nationals, with visiting U.S. nationals from the
main Kean campus and international students from Tanzania, Malaysia and U.S. In the first year,
recruitment was from Zhejiang Province. In subsequent years, recruitment has expanded to eleven
additional provinces of China. However, for the academic year 2017-2018, the university
expanded recruitment to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. All Chinese nationals are recruited
through the Chinese National College Entrance Examination. Wenzhou-Kean admits Tier 1 (the
top tier) from this examination. In addition, a very small number of students are admitted
contingently from Tier 2. The rest of the students are recruited through an alternate admission
process referred to as “3-in-1.”
The number of majors and opportunities for study has grown from an original four majors, in
Accounting, Finance, English in a Global Setting and Computer Science, to 14 majors in
Marketing, Global Business, Graphic Design, Psychology, Management, Architectural Studies,
Mathematical Science and Biology. Kean courses are offered either by Kean faculty contracted to
the Wenzhou site or by Kean faculty visiting from the U.S. campus.
All entering freshmen are required to participate in an English Intensive Preparatory Program
prior to the start of classes. Rising sophomores also have the opportunity to attend the English
Immersion Program at Kean University’s main campus. Finally, Wenzhou-Kean students may take
one to two semesters at Kean’s Union campus starting in their junior year.
In the first year of operation (2012-2013), Kean held classes and housed students using space
within Wenzhou University, as a collaboration between the two institutions. In the second year,
Kean moved into its own campus with a general education building for all classes, administrative
support offices and conference rooms, a dining hall and the first residence halls and faculty
housing. This group of buildings constituted Phase 1 of the campus building project. Phase 2 was
completed in Fall 2015 with new residence halls for all incoming and current students. College of
Business and Public Management Building and faculty housing were brought into operation in Jan.
2018. Athletics Center has opened in Spring 2018. The second student dormitory area and Michael
Graves College building will be completed in 2019, and the Student Learning and Activity
(Library) will be completed in 2020. In 2013, the Middle States Commission for Higher Education
affirmed Wenzhou-Kean as an additional location of Kean University. In 2014, following the
successful completion of the “in preparation” probationary period, the Chinese Ministry of
Education announced the approval of the establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University, making it
the first Chinese-United States cooperative university in the Zhejiang province and the second in
China. The Chinese Ministry of Education granted approval for Wenzhou-Kean graduates to
3
receive dual bachelor degree certificates from Kean University and Wenzhou-Kean in addition to a
Chinese graduation certificate from Wenzhou-Kean, thereby achieving compliance with relevant
regulations in China. In 2018, the Bachelor Degree Conferral Evaluation Panel concluded that
Wenzhou-Kean University possesses the qualifications to confer Baccalaureate degrees of the
following six academic programs: Finance, Marketing, Global Business, Computer Science,
English and Graphic Design.

(CNCC), Art and PE Curriculum
As a teaching unit of Wenzhou-Kean University, Chinese Curricula Center is responsible for
the establishing of Chinese curricular system required by M.O.E, China (with Mandarin as
course instructional language) and its implementation. Chinese curricula consist of Chinese
National Conditions & Culture (CNCC) Education, Art Education (A.E.) and Physical
Education (P.E.), whose total credits account for roughly 10% of overall WKU curriculum.
The Center also provides professional instructions regarding arts and sports.

5. Minor Programs
Wenzhou-Kean University offers a wide variety of minor programs that focus on specific
areas of study. A minor is an optional program taken in addition to the major program of
study in order to complement or augment the major, or to develop a second concentration of
study. Career opportunities or professional competence may be enhanced through completion
of a minor program. Students should consult with their advisors for information about
integration of minors with their major programs.
A minor consists of a minimum of 18 semester hours. A minor may be in a single academic
discipline or (effective Fall 2014) may be interdisciplinary in nature. If a minor is in a single
academic discipline, students majoring in that academic discipline may not minor in that same
discipline.
The content of each minor is prescribed by an academic program and may or may not include
electives. A minimum of six semester hours must be from upper division, 3000-4000 level
courses. Only courses with a “C” (2.0) grade or better may be applied to the minor. Some
minor programs have additional minimum grade and/or minimum GPA requirements.
No more than one-half of the credits for the minor may be transferred from another
institution. No more than one-half of the credits for a minor may be from courses that are
being used to fulfill major requirements (including second major requirements). Note that
duplicate credit is not awarded in cases where a course is fulfilling more than one type of
requirement.
Effective Fall 2016, students seeking admission to minor programs should use the
Major/Minor Status Change Form available online in the Forms and Policies section of the
Registrar's website . The completed form must be signed by the Executive Director,
Chairperson, or Coordinator responsible for the minor program and then submitted to the
Office of the Registrar.
At the time of filing for graduation, the academic Department or School offering the minor
program must verify and sign off that all requirements are met. Verification of the completion
of the minor must then be filed with the Registrar’s Office. Minors will be designated on
students’ transcripts.

6. Academic Standards, Policies, and Procedures
6.1 Academic Advisement
The University views academic advisement as an important aspect of the academic
experience. Students may receive individual advisement as follows:
New freshmen will have their initial and first semester advisement and registration
coordinated through the School of General Studies (SGS) as part of their Transition to
WenZhou-Kean (T2K) experience. For more information call 0577-55870163.
Starting with the second semester, all matriculated students must seek advisement through
their major Department or School.
New transfer, second baccalaureate degree and readmitted students are directed to seek
advisement through their major Department or School.
Undecided/Undeclared Majors - Students who are neither officially intended nor declared
with an academic major are considered undecided, and are advised by faculty and staff most
appropriate for their academic interest
6.2 Academic Honors
Dean’s List
Superior academic achievement is recognized by appointment to the Dean’s List for
undergraduate matriculated students. Each student awarded Dean’s List honors receives a
personal letter of congratulations; this academic achievement is also noted on the student’s
transcript.
Designation to the Dean’s List is available to both full-time and part-time undergraduate
matriculated students, according to the criteria given below.
Full-time students: The Dean’s List is announced twice a year for full-time students, at the
end of each fall and spring semester. To qualify, the student must be matriculated and must
have earned a semester grade point average of 3.45 or better for at least 12 credit hours (not
including courses taken on the pass/fail option). All courses completed in the semester must
have been passed for earned credit. Any student with a grade of “Incomplete” cannot be
considered eligible for the Dean’s List.
83
Part-time students: The Dean’s list is announced once a year for part-time students, at the end
of each spring semester. To qualify, the student must be matriculated and must have earned a
grade point average of 3.45 or better for the regular academic year (combination of fall and
spring semesters only) for at least 12 credit hours (not including courses taken on the pass/fail
option). All courses completed in the regular academic year must have been passed for earned
credit. Any student with a grade of “Incomplete” cannot be considered eligible for the Dean’s
list.
Graduation with Honors
Students graduating with a cumulative grade point average of 3.45 or better, and who have
completed a minimum of 45 semester hours at WenZhou-Kean(excluding credits earned on a
Pass/Fail or a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis) by the end of the first semester of their senior
year are recognized with anticipated honors. Any candidate with a grade of “Incomplete”
cannot be considered eligible for honors until the grade has been changed. The actual honors
designation will appear on both the diploma and the final transcript. Designations are as
follows:
Average of 3.85-4.00 Summa cum laude
Average of 3.65-3.84 Magna cum laude
Average of 3.45-3.64 Cum laude
Academic honors are awarded based upon completion of the final semester. In order to
participate in the Commencement Ceremony with honors and be eligible to receive a gold
tassel, the above requirements must be met by the end of the first semester of senior year
(usually fall semester or end of winter break semester following fall semester).
6.3 Access to Education Records (FERPA)
Introduction
Wenzhou-Kean University collects data and information about students in order to facilitate
their educational development. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of
1974 and the Higher Education Amendments of 1998 delineate the rights of students to be
informed of the existence of this information, to have access to it, and the conditions under
which information about students may be disclosed to others. A copy of the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act is available in the Office of the Registrar. The material
below specifies the Wenzhou-Kean University policy and procedures for complying with
FERPA. All employees of the University who handle student records are bound by the
Wenzhou-Kean policy and procedures.
84
6.4 Academic Probation and Dismissal
Matriculated students earning a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.0 are subject to
academic probation. A cumulative average that would place a student on academic probation
for the third time makes the student subject to dismissal from the University.
Notification of Academic Dismissal
Academic dismissal decisions are made after each academic year (after the conclusion of the
spring semester). Students dismissed from the University are notified by certified letter from
the appropriate college dean.
Also see, Reinstatement After Academic Dismissal section.
6.5 Attendance Policy
Attendance is expected in all courses. Attendance will be a component of the grade of any
course if so stated in the syllabus. Students are responsible for informing the instructor in
advance or in a timely manner of the reasons for their absence. Instructors in consultation
with their executive directors/department chairs are expected to respect University practices
and policies regarding what counts as an excused absence. Typically excused absences
include illness, bereavement or religious observances. Serious tardiness may be dealt with at
the discretion of the instructor.
Observance of a religious holiday is to be considered an excused absence from class for any
student. If a student misses a scheduled examination or other announced assignment because
of observance of a religious holiday, the student and instructor shall agree upon a mutually
convenient time as an alternate date for completion of the assignment.
6.6 Class Standing (FR/SO/JR/SR)
Student standing is determined by the cumulative number of credits earned and is set at the
following levels:
Freshman - maximum of 28.5 earned credits
Sophomore - minimum of 29 to maximum of 55.5 earned credits
Junior - minimum of 56 to maximum of 89.5 earned credits
Senior - minimum of 90 earned credits
85
6.7 Course Numbering System
Courses carrying 1000 and 2000 numbers are lower division offerings, usually appropriate for
the freshman and sophomore years of undergraduate study. Courses numbered at the 3000
and 4000 levels are upper division offerings, usually appropriate for the junior and senior
years of undergraduate study.
In general, the following course numbering system is applied (X=digit from 0-9):
0XXX Developmental or supplemental level, providing foundations in basic skills,
no degree credit granted, credits do not count towards GPA calculation.
1XXX Introductory level, broad-based in nature, prerequisites usually not necessary.
2XXX Intermediate level, the second course in a discipline, one prerequisite
sometimes necessary.
3XXX-4XXX Advanced levels, providing greater depth in a more defined area of
scholarship, one or more prerequisites generally necessary.
5XXX Graduate level.
6XXX Graduate level.
7XXX Graduate level
8XXX Graduate level
6.8 Course Load
Course load limitations apply to work taken at both Wenzhou-Kean University and at other
institutions of higher education.
Fall and Spring Semesters
Full-time students: The normal course load is 16 credits per semester with a minimum of 12
credits per semester and a maximum of 18 credits per semester.
Summer Session
Unless prior approval has been given through the dean’s office, students may register for a
maximum of seven credits or two courses, whichever is greater, in each summer session.
Winter Session
Unless prior approval has been given through the dean’s office, students may register for a
maximum of one course in the winter session.
86
6.9 Grade Point Average
The student’s overall academic standing is indicated by a grade point average. The grade
point average is determined by dividing the total grade points earned by the total number of
semester hours calculated. Numerical points for each letter follow: A = 4.0; A- = 3.7; B+ =
3.3; B = 3.0; B- = 2.7; C+ = 2.3; C = 2.0; D = 1.0; F = 0. The cumulative average is
determined only on courses taken at Wenzhou-Kean University.
Omissions or errors in grade compilation should immediately be reported to the Office of the
Registrar. Questions regarding letter grades assigned by an instructor should be discussed
directly with the instructor as soon as possible and no later than the last day of the eighth
week of the subsequent major (fall or spring) semester. This timeline does not apply to
graduating seniors; change of grades must be completed no later than two weeks after the
graduation date. Example: For May degree candidates the change of grade must be completed
no later than two weeks after the May ceremony; for January and August candidates, no later
than the end of the month. A change of grade will not be permitted after the baccalaureate
degree has been posted.
6.10 Grade Recalculation (Repeating Courses for Grade
Recalculation)
Undergraduate courses taken by undergraduate matriculated students are eligible for repeat
under this policy. Beginning with Fall 1987 Semester, courses completed with grades of A-/
B+/ B/ B-/ C+/ C/ D/ F/AF may be repeated. Graduate courses cannot be considered for grade
recalculation.
Guidelines:
1. If the grade in the repeated course is higher, it will be included in the GPA. The former
grade will be designated with an “R” prefix to the grade on the student transcript and
excluded from GPA. If the grade in the repeated course is the same or lower, both grades
will remain in the GPA. Course credits are earned one time.
2. Only four (4) repeated courses or twelve (12) credits, whichever is greater, may be
excluded from the GPA.
3. A course grade may not be recalculated more than once.
4. The request for recalculation of the GPA must be submitted after the course has been
repeated. Once elected, this option may not be changed nor revoked.
87
5. All courses submitted for consideration under this policy must be Wenzhou-Kean
University courses. No transfer credit can be considered in the recalculation of the GPA.
(Transfer credit is not included in Wenzhou-Kean University GPA.)
6. Students may neither repeat a course for grade recalculation after graduation nor submit a
Request for Grade Recalculation after graduation.
6.11 Grading System
The letter grading system listed below was effective beginning with the Fall 1990 semester.
The student’s academic standing in every course is reported at the end of each semester by a
letter grade. Credit is granted for the following:
A Excellent
A-
B+
B Good
B-
C+
C Fair
D Poor
P Pass (Pass/Fail option, supplemental university instruction credit courses and
developmental courses)
S Satisfactory (Student teaching and related field experience)*
No credit is granted for the following:
F Fail
U Fail (Pass/Fail option, student teaching and related field experience,* supplemental
university instruction credit courses and developmental courses)
AF Fail (administratively assigned, student stopped attending but did not drop the class)
IN Incomplete Work
IP Incomplete Work (Pass/Fail)
IC Incomplete Work (CG/NC)
88
W Withdrawn
AU Audit
R( ) Repeated grade
NA Never Attended
NR
No Record
*Student teaching is graded as “S” or “U.” Credits for student teaching are not used in
computing the cumulative grade point average.
X( ) indicates Academic Amnesty granted, where courses and grades no longer count toward
the academic program (see Academic Amnesty for additional information).
6.12 Minor Program Requirements
1. A minor shall consist of a minimum of 18 semester hours. A minor may be in a single
academic discipline or (effective Fall 2014) may be interdisciplinary in nature. If a minor
is in a single academic discipline, students majoring in that academic discipline may not
minor in that same discipline.
2. Content is to be prescribed by an academic program and may or may not include electives.
3. A minimum of six semester hours must be from upper division, 3000-4000 level courses.
4. No more than one-half of the credits for a minor may be transferred from another
institution.
5. No more than one-half of the credits for a minor may be from courses that are being used
to fulfill major requirements (including second major requirements). Note that duplicate
credit is not awarded in cases where a course is fulfilling more than one type of
requirement.
6. Departments or Schools will provide guide sheets for minor programs to students.
7. Effective Fall 2016, students seeking admission to minor programs should use
the Major/Minor Status Change Form (available online in the Forms and Policies section
of the Office of the Registrar's website). The completed form must be signed by the
Executive Director, Chairperson, or Coordinator responsible for the minor program and
then submitted to the Office of the Registrar.
8. At the time of filing for graduation, the academic Department or School must verify and
sign off that all requirements for the minor are met. Verification of the completion of the
minor must then be filed with the Registrar’s Office.
9. Minors will be designated on the student’s transcript.
10. Only courses with a “C” (2.0) grade or better may be applied to the minor. Some minor
programs have additional minimum grade and/or minimum GPA requirements.
89
6.13 Registration
All students register online via KeanWISE. Priority for the registration period is determined
by the number of credits earned toward the degree. Students who do not take advantage of
their designated credit registration time, will be able to register during the ongoing
registration cycle. The University does not guarantee offering all courses listed in this catalog.
When there is inadequate registration for a course, it may be cancelled without notice. The
Office of the Registrar will notify students of course cancellations via their Kean Google
email accounts. Room changes are updated in the online schedule and students are
encouraged to review their schedules for any changes.
6.14 Transcript Requests
Official transcripts must be requested online at www.getmytranscript.org, where detailed
instructions and information about delivery options and processing times is provided.
Transcript fee is $10.00 per official copy (the $10.00 fee covers all undergraduate and
graduate coursework). Transcripts will not be released to those with outstanding obligations
to the University.
