Message from the Board ChairAnother year has gone by quickly as the Apple Tree Foundation (ATF) Board of Directors
continued its efforts in the support of clients residing at Kings
Regional Rehabilitation Centre (KRRC). I want to thank the Board
Executive for supporting me in the role of Chair, and all Directors
for their continued dedication to the Foundation’s work.
The year began on a sad note with the passing of former Board Chair
Wayne Morgan in April of 2018. In the subsequent months, a decision was made to honor Wayne’s
contributions by naming the Foundation’s 25th anniversary golf tournament in his honor in August of
2019.
The spring saw the completion of the Foundation’s 5-K Run. Wet weather drew a smaller number of
runners and walkers for the fifth annual event, but included an eager group in a range of ages and
abilities. In August, the 24th annual Apple Tree Golf Classic took place with 31 teams. This was one of
the strongest tournaments in the long history of the event, raising some $25,000. In addition, the
Foundation continued its on-going fundraising activities within the Centre, including a bi-weekly 50/50
draw supported by over 300 KRRC staff, and operation of a snack vending machine. Thanks is extended
to everyone who contributed to the success of these fundraising initiatives.
Last summer, the Foundation extended best wishes to KRRC CEO Joe Haverstock as he embarked on
retirement. We welcomed Judy Heffern back to the role in the Fall. Centre finance manager Tom Litsas
also stepped back into the Treasurer’s position for the Foundation.
I invite you to review this Annual Report to learn more about the Foundation’s work and the client
programs, projects and activities we aim to support.
Regards,
Bob Stewart,Chair

The Apple Tree Foundation (ATF) is led by a 15-member volunteer Board of
Directors made up of members from the Community, Kings Regional
Rehabilitation Centre (KRRC) staff and KRRC Board of Directors. Together
they work on sub-committees to plan fundraising and profile building activities. The Board
meets monthly (with the exception of July and August) and holds an Annual General Meeting
in June.
While KRRC receives funding through the NS Department of Community Services, monies
raised through the Apple Tree Foundation support special projects and programs that might
not otherwise be possible.

Dona on HighlightsThe Apple Tree Foundation accepts donations from individuals, businesses and organizations, and issues charitable tax receipts. Both general and memorial donations are greatly appreciated.
Many client families also support the Foundation’sannual Christmas card mail-out campaign with afinancial gift. The 2018 campaign was very successfulwith over $3,500 received. A client in the KRRC youthprogram designed the artwork for the card (pictured atleft) which depicted a native interpretation of theChristmas holiday season, with a spirit bird that fliesduring the winter solstice and lets snow down for everyone.
For several years, theFoundation has also received asubstantial annual donation fromthe DRM Foundation. This year there was anothergenerous contribution of $7,000.
Over $1,500 was receivedthrough Link Charity from theestate of a former volunteer inthe Lifestyles program, the lateHilma Enserink. As per thefamily request, these funds weredesignated for KRRCgreenhouse improvements, asHilma had been involved in thenaming of the House of Sproutsin 2015.
Thanks extended to all donors.
