MedTech Bootcamp2018

EIT Health is fostering health-related startups to scale at European level. One highlight with this respect comprises the Bootcamp programs. These have been established throughout Europe due to strong demand in recent years.

The great success of our rst EIT Health Bootcamp at YES!Delft (oversubscribed by 8x) with a eldtrip to our European industry partners triggered Europe-wide interest from numerous very promising teams that we couldn't serve properly. Thus, the programme is replicated in 2018 to ve other regions and topics, increasing the number of available spots by a factor of six by 5 new programs taking place all over Europe in Germany, Spain, Poland, Ireland and the Netherlands.

As a former director of ZiMT, I’m very proud and happy that one of those will take place in Erlangen at FAU, hosted by the Central Institute of Medical Engineering (ZiMT) in collaboration with Medical Valley, UnternehmerTUM, d.hip, Siemens and many others. The two to three month programs strengthen ambitious entrepreneurs in the HealthTech sector in the implementation of their ideas at European level.

I’m very much looking forward to the results and the winning team that will be presented at the annual EIT Health summit in December this year.

Dr. Kurt Höller, MBADirector of Business Creation, EIT Health e.V.

Greetings

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the MedTech Bootcamp. I hope you are as excited as I am to discover our 10 participating startup teams and their newest healthcare innovations. Hosted by the Central Institute of Medical Engineering (ZiMT) of the FAU and their partners Medical Valley EMN, UnternehmerTUM, the roadshow partners, the MedTech Bootcamp aims to launch new businesses capable of maintaining their market success in the European startup scene. Our mission is to provide practical assistance from dedicated coaches, healthcare professionals, and specialists in the MedTech sector. The MedTech Bootcamp is committed to supporting its entrepreneurs in designing and validating their business models, advancing their prototypes, and targeting customers. The initial 4-week training phase will be followed by 3 weeks of roadshow stops at IESE in Barcelona, YES!Delft, and NUI Galway, where the teams will pitch their ideas in front of possible investors, learn market specicities, and challenge their value propositions. Over the following pages, we invite you to nd out more about our innovators and their unique products. Feel free to get in touch with them directly, and prepare yourself to be excited and inspired.

Thank you for joining us, and good luck to our teams!

Openwrist

Looking for:

Improving the business model of our project

Knowing the European health care market better

Knowing how to get investment for clinical trials

Expanding our networking

Becoming familiar with similar projects to build alliances

Openwrist

There are more than 5 million upper limb amputees in the world. The current solutions on the market lack a fundamental feature, which is the wrist rotation. Without it, any simple task with the prosthesis become a challenge to the user and could even imply long-term harm for the user’s shoulder articulation.Openwrist is an articial wrist which adds rotation functionality to any kind of upper limb prosthesis. The user will be able to control the rotation of his/ her prosthesis by doing little inclination movements of the head. It will be modular and easy to connect to the dierent upper limb prosthe-sis currently available on the market. Even though our technology is state of the art in the prosthesis domain, the components used and the manufacturing procedure makes Openwrist not only intuitive and comfortable but also aordable.

OPSYON

Fusing tumor targeting and immunecheckpoint blockade

Looking for:

Network: OPSYON is looking for collaboration partners to complete preclinical studies.

Consulting: OPSYON requires advice concerning business plan writing, nancing, business development and patent applications.

Investments: To expand our portfolio and substantiate our patent application, we would need a nancial investment of 3-5 Mio. € in the next three years.

OPSYON

There is a strong rationale and emerging trend to use immune checkpoint inhibitors in combination with other cancer therapies to enhance immune response against tumors. However, due to treatment-related adverse events, the value of combination therapy remains controversial. OPSYON generates new and eective immuno-oncology therapeutics with reduced systemic toxicities. Our technology connes the benets of immune checkpoint inhibition to tumor cells, thus providing cancer patients a long-term possibility for progression-free survival and low risk of side eects. Our antibody-based therapeutics bring tumor and immune cells in close vicinity by specically targeting tumor cells with high anity and restore the activity of immune cells with a low anity blockade of immune checkpoint receptors. Our lead candidate focuses on the emerging innate immune checkpoint CD47 in the target indication acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML is an aggressive disease with limited numbers of therapeutic agents, highlight-ing the need for innovative therapies. Besides, AML provides the basis for quick success for an orphan drug to reach market approval. Currently, we transfer OPSYON’s technology to solid cancers.

ReMeDi – Remote Medical Diagnostician

Looking for:

Funds for completing the system for certication

Perform the system certication

Cooperation with a manufacturer of ultrasonographic scanners

Pilot customers also wishing to test the system before certication

ReMeDi – Remote Medical Diagnostician

ReMeDi addresses the problem of unequal geographic distribution of medical doctors between rural and urban areas. It is a system for real-time ultrasonographic examinations. First, a semi-autonomous device will enable doctors to perform diagnostics remotely, without being physically present at the point of care. Further, the robotic system will autonomously examine patients and provide diagnoses. The ReMeDi system consists of an anthropomorphic robot operating in a remote hospital and a control interface placed at the doctor’s location that are connected via a cloud-based connection platform on a subscription basis. ReMeDi goes beyond classical telepresence concepts: It captures and processes multi-sensory data (integrating visual, haptic, speech, patient’s physiological responses) into perception and reasoning capabilities, making ReMeDi a diagnostic assistant oering context-dependent and proactive support for the doctor. ReMeDi is able to perform all types of surface ultrasonography. Additionally, the intuitive and very convenient control of ReMeDi with force-feedback is closest to direct ultrasonography and is generally accepted by patients and doctors.

Theraselect

Looking for:

We are looking for motivated people and solutions supporting our vision to nd eective drugs for cancer treatment and to develop new tests to achieve higher treatment success through personalized treatment of each individual patient.

Theraselect

The project Theraselect aims to create new diagnostic and pharmacologi-cal tests to improve treatment for cancer patients. The basis for the spin-o from the Department of Analytical Pathology at the Helmholtz Zentrum München is specially developed methods in mass spectrometry imaging that make thousands of molecules visible in tissue samples. In addition to the cell structure, this makes it possible to see which molecules are present at which location in a kind of molecular map. This can help drug studies to dierentiate between active ingredients and their metabolic products in order to verify the success of a treatment. The method also allows specic biomarker proles to be collected from clinical tissue samples. Based on the results, doctors would be able to make personalized treatment decisions in the future. The site-specic detection of previously undetectable, treatment-relevant molecules can set new standards in diagnostics.
