Admission to a Shriners Burn Hospital is essentially the same as
to a Shriners Hospital for Children. Here, however, it must be
stressed that timing may be of utmost importance.
The final outcome of a burn case may be greatly depen-dent upon
the type of treatment and the speed with which it can be started.
Therefore in emergency, the Chief Surgeon has the authority to
admit the patient, having the applica-
tion completed at a later date. If then you know of an emergency
burn case, immediately call the Shine Ambassador in
the area.

Salute to the Flag:A Noble who is wearing his Fez will execute a
right-hand salute when the Colors are within six paces of him; he
will not remove his Fez. After the Colors have passed, he should
drop his right hand. In case the same Colors pass the same point
again, as frequently happens in a Ceremonial procession or in
display drills, the Colors need not be saluted a second time. The
same rule applies to street paradesPrayer:During the offering of a
prayer, the Fez should be removed and held in the right hand over
the heart.
The Salaam:A Noble addressing the Potentate while he is
presiding in the East should always give the Salaam.
Salutations:An Imperial Officer as well as a Past Potentate is
always addressed as “Imperial Sir”. A Potentate or Past Potentate
is always addressed as “Illustrious Sir.”
The Salaam is always given by the Potentate and members of his
Divan when receiving the Imperial Potentate, Imperial Officers, and
Past Imperial Potentates. The Imperial Potentates do not Salaam in
return but give the sign of the Order.

MIZPAH MERIT AWARD
1. This plan became effective January 1, 1993 and can only be
terminated by the Divan on the last day of December of any year,
providing prior notice of such action has been given to the
Nobility on or before June 15th of that year, or by the vote of the
Nobility.
2. Eligible for this award are members of Mizpah Shrine having
earned sufficient points as listed herein.
3. The complete award is composed of several parts, each of
which will be awarded for a set number of points as follows: Req

Accumulated points may be used to purchase a Jeweled Fez at current
market price.
4. Points are accumulated and do not stop at end of the year —
they may be carried over from year to year.

By way of recognizing the distinctive service of the Nobility
who perform outstanding service to the Mizpah Shrine in
supporting the Shrine, and the “World’s Greatest Phi-lanthropy”
- the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and in
strengthening our membership, the Divan of Mizpah has
established a Jewel or Badge to be known as the
“Mizpah Merit Award’. This award is to be worn by such Nobles on
occasion when they would wear the Fez. It cannot be given away - it
must be earned. Every Noble of Mizpah can earn it. It is
beauti-
fully designed and rich in appearance and significance.

5. Value of points and how obtained: Points(a) For being a first
line signer on each petition for initiation, restoration or
affiliation. 100
b) For being a second line signer on each petition for
initiation, restoration or affiliation. 50 c) For purchasing a
permanent contributing members in Shriners Hospitals for Children.

d) For purchasing voluntary contributing membership in Shriners
Hospitals for Children. 100
e) Potentate may award to any Noble during the year up to and
including 500 points.
6. Coupon – A coupon will be issued at the end of each year.
Said coupon will show Noble’s name and the number of points and
type of points earned and is to be signed by the Potentate and the
Recorder. Coupons are not transferable and will be redeemed only
from the Noble to whom they are issued. When a Noble obtains
sufficient points, the coupons can be redeemed at the Recorders
Office for award earned. (No further record available after coupon
once issued. DO NOT LOSE! They will not be looked up or
replaced.)
Note: Upon achieving “SAMSAR” status, a Noble may exchange his
Merit Scimitar and Crescent for a “SAMSAR” Scimitar and Crescent
(all “add on” jewels are interchangeable). To become eligible for
Samsar, a Noble must have earned 900 points.
